Who: Darcy and Loki.
What: The two of them being themselves, as always.
When: Following a series of texts.
Where: Darcy’s place.
Rating: Low. There is kissing and vague innuendo.
Status: Complete.
Loki had grumbled to himself most of the way to Darcy’s, and a little while he had scanned the grocery store for something he could possibly make for them to eat. It really wasn’t that he was worried he had done something wrong. The two of them had seemed to have fallen into a relationship not unlike their friendship, meaning that it was very heavily sarcasm and teasing based. Still, such things could lead to real problems, so it was better to just nip it in the bud. Even if meant following Thor’s stupid advice.
When he got to Darcy’s place, he vaguely hoped her roommate wasn’t home. Loki certainly wouldn’t put it past Darcy to ‘forget’ to tell him that, and the thought made him laugh as he knocked on the door.
Oh they were mostly playing. They were playing up until she felt slightly insulted anyway. Not overly so, she wasn’t mad or anything. However he did have some apologizing to do, or she wasn’t going to let him in. Whether Hank was home inside was anyone’s guess. He was probably down in the basement if he was home at all. Either way she wasn’t going to tell him.
Opening the door, she only opened it part of the way and peeked her head in. “Can I help you?”
Loki raised an eyebrow. "Actually, I don't need to help, so not really. You're not really going to make me stand out here, are you?"
Darcy acted like she was really contemplating that question. “Possibly. I’m not sure you’ll fit in. Besides you’re so perfect that I don’t know why you would want to demean yourself by putting up with me as you put it.”
"I told you I enjoy it though," he said, eyebrows going up higher. "I refuse to believe you're actually upset with me."
“You do know that that isn’t actually a compliment? In fact it’s bordering on insulting.” She just stared right back at him. “I wasn’t but then you keep sticking your foot in your mouth.”
"Oh, please." Loki barely kept himself from rolling his eyes. "I didn't mean it. You're fantastic company, and if anything you're the one who puts up with me. Now let me in, it's starting to rain."
“And now I’m pretty sure you’re just saying whatever you have to so that I’ll let you in. Maybe you should just go home, Loki. Clearly neither one of us is in the mood.” This is was why she didn’t want to do this.
While he wanted nothing more than to pinch the bridge of his nose, then turn and leave, Loki let out a slight sigh instead.
"It's not about whether or not you let me. I just can't stand the thought of you being upset with me. Really," he said, hoping she'd realize he was being sincere. "Do you really want me to go home? Because I will, if you do."
Darcy sighed a bit. “No I don’t want you to go home. I just want you to stop acting like I should bow down before you.” Cause she wasn’t going to do that. Ever.
He looked taken aback. "I don't ever recall acting like that." He'd teased her, of course, about how amazing he is. Surely she didn't take that the wrong way.
“You were pushing it just a little,” was all she said. Darcy finally opened the door and let him inside. “I’m not actually mad. I just think you should do more about how amazing I am instead of yourself.”
"I'm here to cook you dinner. Surely that's a start." Loki huffed a little as he stepped inside. "And I quite frequently tell you how fantastic you are."
“It’s a start. Oh I don’t know, I think you’re too busy stroking your own ego there, hot shot.” She followed him into the kitchen. “So by cook do you mean actually cook, or are you bringing me take-out? Because that’s two totally different things.”
"You wound me, Darcy, you do." Loki glanced at her with a bit of a pout, setting the grocery bag on the counter. "Yes, I actually mean cook."
“Doesn’t mean I’m wrong though, does it?” She only gave him a smart ass look in response and then went to some of the kitchen cabinets. “What do you need? I’ll get everything out for you.” Since he didn’t know where anything was.
“A little bit wrong,” he replied, a touch airily. He told her what he needed as he unpacked the bag.
“No, I’m not wrong. Your ego is always going to be first.” Darcy pretty much accepted that. She got out the things for him and put them to the side. Then she went to sit down and watch him.
“Don’t be ridiculous. There’s nothing wrong with a bit of confidence.” Once he made sure he had everything, Loki started on dinner. “Can I ask you something?” he said, after a few minutes.
“There’s a fine line there dude. Yeah sure, ask away.” Darcy didn’t mind questions.
“Are you worried, now that I’ve started these dreams? Thor seems to be, the way he goes on about all the ways to remedy any situations.” Loki didn’t sound too concerned about it either way. For what it was worth, thus far he sympathized with his dream self (naturally, he figured). Thor worrying was one thing, Darcy entirely another. He felt he should get a feel on the situation before it got out of hand.
“I’m worried but maybe not for the same reasons that Thor is. I don’t want you to ever think that you don’t have anyone who cares about you? Odin’s a really shitty father. I’m just worried that it’ll make you sad. I don’t want you to be sad.” Darcy really couldn’t bare that.
“Oh, but I’ll have my ego,” he said, teasing her gently, before deciding it might be a better choice to be more sincere. “Thank you. Really. I’ll remember you said that.”
She gave him a Look that said she wasn’t that amused with his answer but she’d take it. “I hope you do. That’s all I ever wanted. You need to remember how I feel when you feel alone or whatever those dreams make you feel. I’m here.”
"Well, so far they make me feel exasperated." Loki shrugged, nibbling on a piece of cheese.
“Tell me about it. They’re only going to get worse. And make you want to roll your eyes at people. I can’t believe people really talk like that.” She shook her head.
“I already want to roll my eyes at everyone,” he pointed out. Thor’s friends in those dreams gave Loki both a dream and real headache, and Thor himself was particularly exhausting in the dreams. Was it any wonder he had to go to desperate measures to get something sorted out?
“Maybe I’ll start talking like that in real life,” Loki teased Darcy. He turned around to lean against the counter as the food simmered away, looking amused. “What ho and the like.”
Darcy laughed a little. “Well you know more than usual.” They were both very sarcastic and eye rolling people. Yeah Thor was a little weird in the dreams too. “In the dream, right after we met Thor, he tasted coffee for the first time at a diner and smashed the cup on the floor. You can’t take him anywhere.”
She shook her head at him. Teasing Thor was pretty fun too. “I will have to disown you if you do.”
“I can explain that,” he said, laughing. “The cup thing. Well, I can at least say that it appears to be a habit of dream-Thors.” Loki just shook his head a little. “I still wonder about taking Thor anywhere. And I promise I will not start talking like that. I seem to be one of the lesser offenders of it, anyway.”
“Really? He does a lot of that? Breaking things on purpose? We almost got kicked out of the diner. I guess you really can’t take him anywhere as it is.” She smiled a little. “That’s good, I don’t want to have to disown you. Thankfully dream me and me-me are exactly the same. So. What are we eating?”
“Gnocchi. I figured it was both quick and delicious.” And easy, but he left that part out. “And if you don’t want it, then I guess we’ll just have to go out somewhere.”
“Gnocchi is fine. It rhymes with your name.” Darcy smirked at him wickedly and then leaned in to kiss him. “I hope I don’t distract you from making dinner.” Funny that sounded exactly the opposite of how she meant it.
“Ha ha ha,” he said, looking amused. But at least he was getting kisses for it, so he must have done something right. “What if I burn the place down because of you, hmm?” Loki asked, teasing.
“Then we’re probably all going to die because my roommate has a lot of explosive stuff in the basement. I mean I guess so. There’s a lab down there. I’m guessing there’s chemicals.” She kissed him again for good measure. “I’ll make sure you don’t burn anything down.”
