Happy Birthday, Mr Frobisher.
Who: Anyone and everyone attending Robert's birthday party.
Where: Poolside, at Draco's parent's.
What: A tropical fiesta.
When: May 11 (bleeding into May 12).
Warnings/Rating: Highish - Alcoholic shenanigans, half naked people, various innuendos and such.
Status: OPEN / Ongoing.

The party had come together quite splendidly (in large part to Robert's darling friends). It looked as much like a beach party as one could get in a residential pool. There was even a bar with a bartender, which Robert had absolutely insisted on getting, for effect and all. And the weather forecast was supposed to be just perfect.

It was, without a doubt, going to be the most fantastic of birthday parties.

Rufus was in charge of the bar, of course, and was more than happy to treat Robert to a proper bartender as part of his birthday present. And he's there, striped boating shirt and all, sneaking a cigarette off to the side before the party gets into full string.

He fully suspects it's going to be wild and crazy affair, and he'll see very little of Robert, social butterfly that he is. But it ought to be fun nonetheless.

Maybe later, Robert might be hard to find, but for now he's more than happy to sneak up around Rufus with an all too please grin.

"Why are you wearing that," he asks, plucking the cigarette away to take a puff. "You're covering up everything!" Robert laughs and tickles his fingers up Rufus' stomach.

Rufus yelps and laughs and grabs at Robert's hands, kissing his cheek. "There's the birthday boy. I thought I wouldn't subject the party to torso just yet. They'll see it enough later, I'm certain."

"I don't know. Maybe I'll want to keep you under wraps. And then unwrap you as an early present to myself."

But Robert still plucks at the boating shirt anyway.

"You're so prim."

Well, of course Zuko was there. Why wouldn't he be?

He didn't personally know Robert, but this was Draco's parents' place - and Draco was here, so there was really no reason that he wouldn't be too. Particularly since the Japanese boy was on a rather short leash this month what with his own family issues.

Zuko wasn't a naturally social creature, and so was standing off to the side next to the wall of the house - just watching for now. He'd been festive enough to wear swim trunks, but ruined the whole effect of it by wearing a hoodie, too -- the hood pulled up awkwardly as if that might somehow hide the giant scar that covered the left side of his face. He wondered where Draco had gotten off to.

Robert had promised himself to try and make an effort to talk to everyone. He wasn't doing a bad job of it, and eventually his travels around the pool took him toward Zuko.

Robert made a vaguely horrified look.

"You're wearing a sweater and it's hot out!" As if no one had bothered to point this out yet.

No one had. Well, okay, Draco sort of had -- but had known better than to expect much else from Zuko anyway.

Zuko regarded Robert with an almost curious expression, before letting it melt into a tiny smile. He recalled that this was one of Draco's better friends, after all.

"It's not too bad. Happy Birthday, before I forget." Because there were drinks over there, and Zuko tended to go overboard. On the plus side, it made him much more friendly.

Oh. Oh. Robert felt a bit stupid suddenly. He'd blame the drinks he already had, but, in fairness, it wasn't as if he had actually had the pleasure of meeting Zuko yet. But he'd seen pictures (demanded to see them, of course), so he should have known better.

"Thank you. Really. I'm so glad Draco managed to drag you here, it's about time we've met. Don't you think?"

Zuko noted the look of sudden recognition and couldn't help but give an almost apologetic smile in reply.

"Yes," he agreed, stepping away from the wall at little, so as to not appear too nonchalant about it all. "Draco talks about you often. I'm surprised we haven't met sooner."

"Only good things, I hope," Robert quipped, looking pleased. He loved when people talked about him. Regardless of it being good or bad.

"I think everyone's just been so busy. What, with you two running off to the Bahamas and getting married and all," he teased.

"Never anything bad," Zuko agreed with an amused sort of snort. "And yes, running off and getting married was rather a busy steal of time. I'm afraid I can't say I regret it though." Smug. Smug. More smug. Zuko probably needed more practice playing well with others, to be honest.

"You should come over more," he said, and it was sort of like him making effort. "I think Draco does well in collaborating musically. I'm not much of a help with that, personally." No really, playing the duduk didn't seem to count.

Robert would be smug, too, if he had been the one to get married. Ah well. He wasn't, he felt, necessarily the marrying type, so he'd have to live vicariously through his friends.

"Oh, yes. I have a couple pieces I need to corner him to listen to. I need an opinion from someone who actually knows what they're talking about," Robert said, sighing as if this was such a hardship.

"I think, too, he and I had talked maybe about getting the four of us together - Er. The fourth being my Rufus. Clearly."

He said he'd come! He'd been invited! He'd dragged his husband along with him, with the express reasoning of being totally awesome and marriage-invoking. Easy!

Miguel was, admittedly, a very excitable sort, and so he off and mingling almost immediately. All the people. He had to talk to all of them. They were new here, and frankly, Miguel was sure he needed to make friends with people because even Tulio didn't deserve the full brunt of his attentions all day every day.

Robert was also a social being. He didn't necessarily enjoy keeping friends, but he liked knowing people. He waved enthusiastically at this new man he hadn't met yet.

"Hello," he said, grinning, "I'm Robert. The man of the hour, so to speak."

"Yes, I remember." Miguel had a smile that was sometimes obnoxiously bright, and a sense of energy about him that even Tulio sometimes couldn't handle. "Twenty-three! I'm sorry, I can't verbalize sparkles, I should have made a little jazz hands thing right there."A pause. "Oh yes, I'm Miguel. Great to meet you, and Happy Birthday!"

"Oh!" Robert laughed. "Yes, jazz hands would have been entirely appropriate. But I'll let it slide this time. I'm so very glad you could make it!"

And he was. If Robert could, he'd have the entire Net there.

Miguel figured it was a little better late then never, so he gave his hands a little jazzy shake in order to make up for his not faux pas. Grinny grin grin! Really, that was the sort he was.

"Oh, gosh," he said, and somehow came off sounding not like an idiot, "Well, I'm glad you invited us. I seem to have lost my husband in my urge to mingle, but he'll show up again eventually. It's a really nice pool and stuff you've got here."

"Yes, Rufus isn't much of a mingler either. He's standing off to the side somewhere ready to be the responsible adult when the time comes." Robert laughed, then shrugged.

"Oh, I wish it was my pool. It's my friend's parent's, actually. They were incredibly kind enough to let me borrow it for the day."

"Being responsible," Miguel made a face as if to show exactly what he thought of that. Which was a negative thing. Obviously.

"Either way," he said, never one to feel silly for slipping up, "It's pretty rad." He gave a pretty lame thumbs up. Miguel approved. "I wouldn't want to keep you from the rest of your party though, so don't feel like you've got to indulge me or anything weird, because that gets awkward."

"Don't be absurd. I'll indulge who I please," he sniffed haughtily.

"But if that was your subtle way of saying that I'm bothering you, I'll shove off." Robert laughed a bit.
