It had been a while since Ginny had her friend over but they were about to remedy that now. They could have gone out but her house was empty, her parents were away, and it was easier. There were things they had to talk about and it had been too long since they has a girl's night.
"Chocolate or vanilla ice cream?" Ginny asked as she reached into the freezer as her friend let herself in. "That's a good place to start right?"
Ginny could have asked a million other questions but this was a good place to start. Ice cream made everything better.
“Chocolate, I think.” Hermione said, giving her friend a smile. It’d been awhile since they’d hung out. Last time was over coffee out and about. They both seemed to have really busy schedules, and it was good that they found the time every once in awhile to catch up. Hermione was hoping that now she was changing her major, she’d have more time for a social life outside of hanging around with Jim.
One could hope, right?
“Chocolate it is. Chocolate with some chocolate syrup and chocolate sprinkles!” She declared pulling out all the ingredients and a pair of bowls from the cupboard. It was a bit overkill but that was alright. The whipped cream could even things out a bit.
Immediately, Ginny set to work on scooping out the ice cream and dropping it into the bowls. “So, how’s life been going?” She figured it was best to leave out that she talked to Harry for a bit until they covered the basics first. “Haven’t run off and gotten married again have you?” She teased affectionately.
Hermione laughed softly, then shook her head. “No. Not again. I think one secret marriage is enough for me, thanks.” It was nice, though, that they could joke about it now. Hermione was pressed down so much with the guilt of keeping it secret... now the cat was out of the bag, she felt better. “...I think it might be time to have some sort of celebration. Do you think that’d be okay?” She asked, tentatively. “...like, a reception of sorts?”
Ginny shrugged her shoulders. Traditions and expectations never really were much to go by in her books. "If the two of you want one, have one." It was as simple as that in her book. "I don't think anything says you have to or not, all personal preference. I always like a good party so I wouldn't mind."
“Okay, good.” A party sounded good. That way Jim could meet all of Hermione’s friends. They all seemed to want to meet him, to get to know the man who stole Hermione’s heart. She’d have to bring it up with Jim later.
“Chocolate with chocolate sauce and chocolate sprinkles sounds absolutely perfect.” Hermione added. “And you can tell me how the show’s going.”
“Eh, same old same old.” Ginny said honestly as she set all the ingredients down in front of them and broke the seal on the new container of sprinkles. “I mean ratings are fine and all but I don’t know... Seems mundane almost.” Everyone else she talked to was working on movies and something bigger. “I have been trying out for movies and stuff though. Since my contract with Disney is almost up. Maybe you’ll see me on the big screen soon!”
“Really?” Hermione asked, brightening considerably at that idea. “Oh, Gin, I think that’s a great idea! You’d be brilliant up on the big screen!” She added, nodding enthusiastically. “What sorts of movies are you trying out for? How long do you have left on your contract?” She asked, leaning in a little, interested.
“Till September though I’m contracted on their show through December but I can technically sign another contract with a company while finishing out my television show.” It wasn’t something people did too often but realistically she couldn’t work for Disney forever. She wasn’t going to be eighteen forever. In fact she would be turning nineteen that summer.
She shrugged, “Anything I can get right now but I want to do something fun like action so I can do some stunt work or maybe even drama because you really need to be able to act to pull off some of those scenes. Who knows, maybe I’ll just move into a bigger primetime show or something.”
“Wow, Ginny, that’s so exciting!” Hermione said, grinning. She was genuinely happy for her friend, and excited to see where things would go for the redhead. “If you ever need someone to help read scripts, or something, you know my number, right?” Hermione hadn’t read too many scripts, but she was fairly interested in the format.
“Of course! I wouldn’t call anyone else first!” And truth was she probably wouldn’t unless it was Harry but she knew he was busy with school and exams were coming up. There were times she wished she would be worrying about college but for the most part she didn’t. She had a career and that was what most people went to college in search of. It seemed like a waste of time.
“Have any more dreams lately?”
Not only that, but she had the start of a career that so many people would give their right arm to have. Hermione wasn’t interested in that sort of thing, but she knew that a lot of people were. Ginny was lucky. She was hard-working, beautiful, talented, and in the right place at the right time. There were a lot of people in the world who were jealous. Hermione was proud, though, and happy for her friend.
“I’ve been dreaming a lot, actually. Getting through the Tri-Wizard Tournament during my fourth year. What about you?” Hermione responded, then started in on her ice cream.
“Ah, the Tournament....” She gave a dramatic pause. “Did you see Ron’s face when he asked our Princess Fleur out,” Ginny had to laugh but also be proud of her brother for even attempting such a thing. “I was so glad when that year was over.” It had been a long year even more than the year before it but mostly because she had been worrying over Harry and the Tournament. Not to mention Voldermort coming back at the end and Cedric’s death. It had been a loss of innocence in a way for a lot of them.
“He looked like he was going to vomit,” Hermione said, holding back a laugh. Poor Ron. Sometimes she felt like they all gave him too hard of a time. “I think I looked pretty good at the Yule Ball, considering.” It was a lot of work to make herself look so nice. Hair gel and whatever else. Took forever, wasn’t worth the effort. She didn’t put any effort in here, either. Jim seemed to like the way she looked.
“How far are you in your dreams?”
"Amazing of course!" Ginny couldn't deny that. Hermione had looked good and it had always been amusing the looks people had given her when she had showed up with Viktor.
"I am not sure. I seem to hop around a lot so it feels like my dreams are all little pieces of the puzzle."
“I was like that a bit at first,” Hermione said, giving a nod. “I dreamed something from when I was eighteen, then went to the Yule Ball, then back to first year... it was a bit confusing in the beginning. But I’m really starting to understand the world, you know?”
Ginny nodded knowing what she meant. “Yeah, it almost feels like I live there some days. Like I understand that world more than this one.” It was a bit of an odd feeling but Ginny didn’t mind it really. Magic was a fascinating thing. “Then again you know the bleeding over into this one really helps too.”
“Oh, tell me about it. Are you doing lots of magic?” Hermione asked. It was nice to get to talk about it with someone who understood. “I’ve got my wand, and the more I dream, the stronger I get at the spells I remember.”
“Oh, I’ve tried...” Ginny admitted knowing Hermione would know that meant at every chance possible when no one was around or when no one is around that would mind. “I even got a project! Maybe you can help! Any ideas how to enchant a broomstick? I want to play quidditch!”
“Oh, I’ve read all about the enchantments that go on broomsticks for quidditch,” Hermione admitted. “It was in one of Ron’s books about the Cannons. I mean, I could tell by the crease in the spine that that particular portion of the book had never been read, but... I could give it a go, sure.” She gave Ginny a bright smile. “I’ve been doing a lot of magic. Whenever I can think of the spells, I try to use them. Don’t want to get rusty.”
Ginny clapped her hands in excitement. “That would be awesome if you could! I want to know what it feels like to fly and to play quidditch!” And really getting brooms to fly was just the beginning if they were going to play quidditch. They would still need a place and the balls. “Draco Malfoy and I tried the other day but the best we could do was make it levitate. Not a successful attempt overall.”
“I’ll look into it. I’ll start attempting charms on my own at home. I’ll let you know if I come up with anything, I think I can probably manage.” Hermione said, giving Ginny a bright grin. “You met up with Draco Malfoy? So weird how he’s totally different here than he is there, isn’t it?”
“Brilliant!” She knew if anyone could do it, it would be Hermione. They would be playing quidditch in no time it seemed. “Completely. I expected him to be that pompous arse I wanted to hex completely like I do in my dreams but he was actually kind of cool.” It still blew her mind a bit to think about it. “Some of us are nothing like our dream selves and others are just like it.”
Hermione laughed. “He is! Kinda cool.” She gave a little nod, still eating her ice cream between words, “I went to see him play music a couple times. His boyfriend, Zuko, is a really good friend of mine. You’d like him. He’s awkward, but sincere.” She grinned brightly at the mention of her friend.
“Well then you’ll have to introduce me!” Ginny liked meeting new people and honestly there were only a handful of people she didn’t like outright. Sometimes people just rubbed her wrong. “I should take some time off this summer so we can do something fun.”
“I’d love to! Yes! Maybe we could organize a camping trip. That’d be loads of fun, wouldn’t it? We can invite Draco and Zuko, and Fleur? And get some tents and a campsite... roast marshmallows... I think it’d be wonderful. Spend a couple of nights in the wild?” Hermione was growing excited at the idea now.
“Sounds like a date!” In that sense Ginny was a lot like her older brothers, that she loved to do the outdoors type of thing and just relax. “Sing campfire songs and bond over sunburns and mosquito bites!” She said with a laugh happy with the prospect of spending a weekend doing all those things. “Long as there’s a place to swim too. It’s been forever since I’ve been swimming.”
Hermione gave a laugh. “Yes! Sunburns, mosquito bites, swimming... all of that!” She agreed, nodding. “I’m sure that Jim can take care of the arrangements. Why don’t you pick a date, and we’ll start passing along invitations!” She was pretty excited about it all now.
“Well, Memorial Day is coming up.... How’s that? It is soon but still gives people time if they need to take off work or whatever.” It seemed logical enough for her. “I don’t film on holidays either so it’ll work and school will be out too unless you’re taking summer classes?”
“I think Memorial Day would be lovely,” Hermione said with a nod. “I can make the arrangements for the location. You do the invitations? And the week before we go, we’ll go shopping for extra camping gear.” She was really excited, and took a bite of her ice cream. “We’ll put together a food shopping list, too, depending on who’s going to be there and what we all want to eat.”
Ginny nodded. “I can do that. Anyone specific that should be on it and how many people are we including?” Considering the people they both knew it could get to be a very large party very fast and it was hard to camp with too many people. “Sounds good and then we can divide it up evenly so everyone has something to buy.”
“As many as you want, and all of our friends!” Hermione said, grinning. She finished her ice cream. “Perhaps we’ll put a cap on it at a dozen?” She added, leaning back in her chair. “I’ll just put together a list, go shopping, and if anyone wants something not on the list, they can bring it themselves.”
Ginny nodded. “Sounds like a plan and I think a dozen would be a good number.” It was doable and was large enough to have fun. “I’ll scout out some camp sites and see what’s out there unless there is something specific you’d like?” There were plenty of options for camping this time of year.
“Nah, nothing specific.” Hermione said, giving a little shrug. “I’m excited. I can’t wait to go sleep under the stars and tell spooky stories around a campfire.” She grinned, standing up to clear their ice cream dishes. She was already making a mental list of the things that she’d need to prepare for the camping trip.
“It shall be brilliant! Though I’m bringing my own tent,” she said with a laugh recalling the many pranks her brothers had pulled on her when they were younger. Now she knew better than to trust anyone else with her camping gear or backing. Ginny picked the dishes up and dropped them into the sink.
Hermione laughed. “I think that’s wise.” She gave Ginny a smile. Of course, she’d been there once or twice when the twins practiced their pranks. She knew how important it’d be to have her own sleeping space, too. “Then it’s settled. You start inviting, I’ll sort out the location details. I can’t wait!”
