My niece was attacked recently, and lost her hand. It was reattached, but the doctors are not sure she will be able to use it correctly. She was hurt defending her wife from a monster.

It seems that one Komagata Kouta is making some power plays with Mai's father, and she is an unfortunate pawn in all of this.
