If you happen to peruse the local news--via website, paper, or blog--you undoubtedly came across at least one of the many articles with some variation on this headline:
And the gist of the story goes like this:
Around 2AM last night, a small group of inebriated young persons decided to take a dip in the ocean, and a poor swimmer in the group was pulled out by the undertow. A teenage girl, who was not with the group, but happened to be nearby, bravely raced into the water and pulled the woman to safety. Emergency services were called, and the girl, age 16, remained on site to answer questions, where it was revealed that she happens to be mute. Her name is Ariel, and by all accounts, her heroic deed saved the woman's life.
