Considering the amount of gold later discovered in California, it is a wonder that the West coast of this country did not end up with as many ports as Argentina and Brazil. Then again, the ones most likely to travel in this direction would be what we consider to be the "Far East", it makes sense. With a few notable exceptions, the countries in the East were primarily concerned with the other countries in the East and the trade between them. The missionaries themselves brought various relics, but they were primarily transported from Europe as opposed to wealth found in the land around the Baja area.
