Having rattled nerves doesn't have to mean only fear. Rattled, itself, encompasses many things by definition, such as to feel frightened, worried, confused, or annoyed. Not merely fear. I meant it more as though it can set a person on edge. I imagine that it's the same situation someone in combat would feel after an explosion, where they know what they have to do, but can still feel uneasy by what they've experienced. I shouldn't imagine though. I wouldn't know, not from a first hand account. I've never been in combat or in the military, like my brother was. I only know from hearing what he's mentioned.
