Title: Inherit Failure
Author: Dragon
Theme: Draco
Prompt Word: Heavy
He couldn't do it. He was going to fail, and his family would die. Those thoughts were heavy on his mind all the time now. It was taking over his life. His work was suffering, Quidditch wasn't as appealing at the moment, and Potter was top student in Potions.
Potter.
Even as clueless as he was, he wasn't making it any easier by continuously trying to figure out what he was up to. Trailing him, spying on him constantly. Like he was going to stop him. He had no idea, really. Just luck, as usual, that he knew anything.
He stared at the cabinet again. He had to get it to work. His family. His mother, he couldn't fail her. She loved him, cared for him. She'd somehow gotten Professor Snape to take the unbreakable Vow to ensure his safety. He was nearly tempted to go back and ask for that help that had been offered.
It was all his father's fault. His father, whom he had always admired, always believed. Who was nothing more than talk. Now, when he needed him the most, he was still in Azkaban, suffering for failing the Dark Lord, and his further failure was facing Draco now. He wasn't prepared, wasn't able to do as the Dark Lord had ordered him.
The shoulders of a sixteen year old were not meant to carry the burden that he was. But he would endure. He had to.
His father had failed his mother. He would not do the same. Failure was not an option, nor was it inherited.
