"You're absolutely right." He was quiet for a moment, not sure how to punctuate that statement. Then, he looked up and smiled a little, not wide enough to be happy, not thin enough to be mocking. Just...polite, perhaps friendly if one wanted to be kind.
Damn, he'd been too overt. The vampire seemed not to have noticed, in fact, if he could read faces, she'd just become very interested in the serving girl. His hand was on the edge of the table, it tightened involuntarily. Now it was getting somewhat dangerous. He could have been overreacting, but for him, at least, and everything he'd learned and come to believe, his paranoia was perfectly justified. Still, he looked back at the man and shook his head. "No, not at all."
