When Azazel came to Nina in a dream, showed her the face of one of the other special children and told her to go, find her and bring her home, Nina didn't question it. If she was to be a queen, then she had to be a good leader and a good leader would never allow one of her own to be without a home. Brena was special just like Nina was, and she'd make sure Brena never had to felt abandoned and alone again. Nina might not know what homelessness was like, but she knew what it was like to feel alone even when surrounded by people. She was determined to rescue the older teen from her situation.
Her "chariot" left something to be desired, but the coach bus would do for now. It wasn't as if Nina knew how to drive. In fact, she wasn't sure that she was quite tall enough to properly see over the dashboard yet. She was eager to get to Brena, and as a result, the bus had unusually good luck with getting green lights and avoiding traffic jams. They made excellent time, and soon enough, Nina arrived downtown.
Nina's supplies consisted of cards, dice, money acquired through illegal gambling, a couple of bottles of water, sandwiches, and a baseball bat and glove. She hoped she'd never have to use the bat to actually hurt someone, but it was better to have some sort of deterrent to keep people from robbing her. The glove and the baseball cap the blonde girl wore made the bat look like it was being carried for innocent reasons rather than as a weapon.
It took roughly an hour to find Brena. When she did, the older girl was asleep under a bridge, unaware of the unsavory looking men approaching. Nina spotted an empty beer bottle on the ground, lifted up her baseball bat and swung it down. Hopefully the sound of shattering glass would wake Brena up.
