Akima was stretched out on the balcony of their hotel room, reading a book in the sun. She hummed softly, the breeze playing with her hair as she read. They'd left the country the second things had gone bad in New York, at Pulse's request, and had spent the ensuing days not paying attention to the news from America.
Pulse was still asleep, this morning, but Akima never really slept more than five hours at a time, so she'd snuck off to read a book. It was a rather good book, about alien parasites that lay their eggs in people's bodies.
Luckily, it didn't remind her of any aliens she'd ever encountered. |

Akima was flopped over in her bed, under a mound of blankets. She felt horrible. Surely she was dying. It was the only reason she could feel this bad.
The radio was on, but she wasn't listening to it. The computer was also on, but looking at it hurt her eyes. All in all, she wasn't a happy girl. |
