Alex was grumpy. He smelled smoke. He had searched the entire house, from top to bottom. He had cleaned, he had scrubbed, and he has made it shine.
And he still smelled it. And he knew, without any more investigation, what it meant. And so he was grumpy as he waited for Belle to come home from a day out with a friend. He had sent the kids to the babysitter's for a few hours and was waiting. He wanted to know why, and he wanted to ask her why, and he did not want to risk the kids seeing an argument if it became that.
He sighed and rubbed his face, slumping in the chair.
Who was he kidding? Not like he could sustain anger against his wife. Ever. She was his love and his life.
Now, he just had to talk to her, and they had to work this out.
He sighed again and waited...
