Dick very calmly placed a bookmark between the last two pages of the chapter he was reading, then closed the book and set it aside. He stood up and walked to the door, where Carrie was not-quite-lingering, as if she was afraid to come in. Dick tried to think of something to say, something to somehow make all the tension disappear, but only one thing was on his mind after so long without her.

"I know that we need to talk and that we aren't going to be a hundred percent immediately, but there's something I need to do." With that, he pulled Carrie to him and kissed her. It felt like a long time before they parted, but when they did, Dick said, "Welcome back."
