Who: Lorna and Erik
What: Playing with magnetism!
Warning: None

It was a beautiful day. Lorna was sitting at the park, having talked to Erik a couple times and decided where they would be practicing. She was excited to be learning something new, and couldn't wait to start.

She bounced a bit, humming along to her iPod.

Erik was much more cheerful than he had been in a while. He was carrying a briefcase as if it weighted nothing and humming as he walked towards the park.

He saw Lorna bouncing around and smiled. He waved when she finally saw him and walked over.

She beamed and waved at him, shutting her iPod down and storing it in her purse. "Hi! You seem cheerful."

She definitely approved.

"I've never had a chance to teach my children anything. So this is a very nice opportunity."

He swung the briefcase up, as if to set it on a table, except there wasn't a table. The briefcase settled in mid-air, lying flat. This was a very special briefcase he'd made himself. He was quite proud of it. It had no lock and really no way to open it... unless you could contort metal with your mind.

"I'm not really sure how much you can do now, so I don't really know where I should begin my lessons."

"Oh! Duh." She laughed a little. "Um, let's see. I rebuilt part of our house that was destroyed when Apocalypse came through. Pipes, some wiring, and small fiddly electrical things included. I guess I'm just more worried about what my limits are, so I don't try to overreach them and, yano, die."

Death is a bad, bad thing.

Eric smiled. "Limits? I was never very good at finding my own limits. I gave myself a heart attack not that long ago. When you start feeling your own life force be drained then you stop? That's what I was told anyway. You usually pass out before you use enough power to die anyway."

He didn't have a lot to tell her in the limits category. How was he really suppose to teach the subject when he was so bad at it himself?

an: sorry it took me so long, moving and everything and I forgot

Lorna giggled a little. "Oh. Alright then. I guess I can live with that, as long as I'm not, like, in orbit or anything. What's in the briefcase?"

(That's okay, I'm moving too. Craziness ensues)

Erik smiled. "Why don't you tell me?" This was a very special briefcase. There was no lock, no hinges. Only someone who could morph metal would be able to open it. Inside were all kinds of metals, all with different conductivity. Even if he hadn't loaded the briefcase himself he would have been able to name each metal and how many ounces of each.

(good luck~, feel free to make up whatever you want for the briefcase.)

Lorna eyed it. "Well, beside being made of, uh, steel, copper and, oh, I've never felt that one."

She held out a hand and the case shifted, coating itself with a thin skin of the metal Lorna couldn't identify.

Erik smiled, very impressed. For having learned of her powers so recently she was greatly advanced in using her them. "Cobalt. It's rather common, but very rarely in pure form. Very good."

His comment made her laugh. "I figured those out when I was working on the building. I'm learning others, though a bit slower, since I'm not messing with them all day."

She looked the box over, turning it with her powers. "This is really cool."

Erik smiled, "Well, we'll have to get you messing with some more types!"

"It was one of first things that I made when I got here. We can make you one, if you like."

"That could be fun! It would be nice to have a safe place to keep my laptop and keys."

She laughed. "I never even thought to do something like this."

"There are a lot of very...simple uses for our powers that make everyday life much easier. I can show you all the things I've done to my house to make it more convenient, and maybe we can make some alterations to your home. I have had quite a time finding more... ordinary ways to use my powers."

Lorna nodded. "That would be awesome. Let me call Alex really quick, to make sure he's not in the shower or anything."

She pulled out her plastic cell phone (A gift from Pulse, back when her powers had been acting up), and dialed.

There was a brief conversation, and Lorna disconnected. "It's not too far, if you take the aerial route."
