Carrie winced a little at the proposal being thrown back at her. The concept of running seemed more appealing the longer she stood there. But he was close and she suspected that he'd try and stop her if she turned to go. And she didn't want to leave like that.

"I didn't- I don't know." She shook her head. Rather lamely, she added, "I didn't expect to get married." Ever, really. It hadn't been a part of her plans. Not that she'd ever had many plans. Maybe that was her problem. She'd never really looked that forward. The sort of life she'd led back home, she'd always expected to live fast and go down young. A lot of heroes in her world had.
