who. Rose Frost and Jonas Joseph Jane
what. A bit of torture to settle her into the past
when. Tonight
where. London

She walked down London back streets, hands in the pockets of an all black overcoat that seemed slightly out of place in this century. Rose had the walk of a model. There was a certain grace to her step and she held her head high even though her mind was clouded and she was confused.

This was the past. It wasn't a dream, nor a lapse into delirium. This was real. The sights and the sounds and the smells all combined into delicious potential. The past. Rose could do as she pleased here. Batwoman was afoot, but she was just one hero. The rest weren't alive or weren't aware of what Rose had become. Rose considered all the chaos she could create here, all the blood that could be shed with little consequence. It was enough to put a wicked little smirk on her face.

Rose knew she needed to figure things out. She needed to know when she was. She needed to know who was alive. She needed a plan. And she craved some fun. She wanted to hear someone scream.

So with hands in her pockets, she kept her eyes open for prey. "Come out, come out..." she sang in a whisper.

Poor Jonas. Just in town to visit a friend, he'd apparently picked the wrong time to be in London. Wrong place, wrong time, as usual.

He felt Rose before he spot her. He got goosebumps for no good reason--and that was always a bad sign. He'd learned to follow his hunches over the years, and goosebumps always meant something wicked was this way coming. He stopped walking and stared up the street.

There was a woman down there. Since he couldn't really see anyone else, he assumed that the general reason for the bad feelings had to be her.

He started walking again, turning into the first alley he came across. As soon as he was out of sight he started to run.

Not today. Not again.

Rose spotted the man in the distance and her eyes narrowed. Prey. He moved quickly and she could hear the footsteps quicken once he was out of sight. Poor boy. That only made her want to play more. She giggled a soft, girlish little giggle before taking off after him.

As old as she was, Rose was good at moving quickly and finding shortcuts. Quickness had gotten her out of a bad spot on more than one occasion. And now, it would get her a plaything.

Rose found her shortcut. With a very wide smile on her face she stood as still as a statue. Jonas turned a corner and almost bumped into her."Hello," she said in a silky voice.

He jumped, but didn't make a noise, to his own credit. He did, however, immediately start backing up, putting up his hands. "Hi there. Sorry about that." Sure, play it off like it had been a totally understandable accident, like he hadn't been running from her. Maybe, just maybe, there was a chance that he could get out of this without provoking a confrontation.

"Quite alright," she watched him with slanted eyes and a killer's smile on her face. Rose sauntered closer, moving in for every step back that he took. "I seem lost. Can you help me?" She sounded like a little girl.

There was something wrong with this woman. Wrong, wrong, so many levels of new and old screams and wrong. He wanted to get away, and badly.

He didn't stop stepping away. "I would, but I'm supposed to meet a friend of mine. There's a police station down the street, maybe you can try them?"

He reeked of fear. This one was a reader. A normal man would have bent over backwards to please her. Or would have tried to take advantage. Rose took another step, trying to get just a little bit closer. "Lucky friend." She smirked. "Do you have the time?"

"Can't say that I do," he said, struggling to hold his voice level. He knew that she knew he was lying, but he continued to stall for time, hoping to get to the mouth of the alley where he'd have a little more room to move before bolting.

"You can run." She giggled again and leaned in, as though she were about to reveal some grand secret. "It's more fun that way," she said in a low whisper. And very suddenly, all amusement was wiped off her face, "But I'll have you. I've caught smarter, stronger, and faster than you, darling."

It was very, very hard to keep still as she leaned in, his head inclining back a little. Fear ran ran through ever vein in his body, clenched his stomach tight as a fist. That tone and those words, he knew them from before. Alot of the fear had nothing to do with this mystery woman. Alot of it had to do with a fear that it might be Him, come back for him at last.

So he ran. He ran even if it was a futile thing. He couldn't even focus enough to try lashing out at her first. Panic had wiped his mind clean.

She lived for that little tremble. Something very deep and primal within her grew extremely pleased. As he took off, she spoke after him, "Run, run, run." She was off like a flash. The cover of night was good. The streets were quite empty. This felt wonderful.

She was on him in a matter of minutes. There was a flash as diamond claws reflected in a streetlight. She slashed his cheek. The cut was deep and blood flowed. The scent filled her nostrils. Jonas struggled, but Rose was surprisingly strong for a woman of her stature. All the while, she giggled.

Immediately, reflexively, he lashed out with his mind, hitting her hard. He wanted to shove her off, get her away by whatever means necessary. He wanted to run until he didn't have ground left to run on anymore. This couldn't happen again, not after things were starting to get better. He couldn't go back to that place. He wouldn't. He'd die first.

He barely even noticed that he was bleeding, lashing out blindly again and again as he twisted, unable to hold back the faint cries that came with this. No. Please, not this.

Rose felt hard blows. There was a barrage of hits to her middle, her sides, her back. Her head spun, but she hung onto Jonas. And she laughed. The amusement was plain in her voice. The hits hurt but she healed very quickly. And Rose was quite used to pain.

"Oh, he fights back! Isn't it cute? Isn't it sweet?" She spoke loudly, as though there was an audience watching. She brought a hand up to his throat, claws pressed tight to his exposed skin. "Shhh," she whispered into his ear, "Don't fight, sweetness. I just have a few questions and then I may let you live."

He held still, his eyes trained on her face. The grey of them was murky, dark with fear...and something deeper even than that. He didn't respond to her, his mind racing. Maybe he could pry her fingers off before she slit his throat...but that probably was a bad idea. He could feel blood dripping warm down his face, remembered the time with the claws and tearing. There'd been alot of blood. He shut his eyes.

"I won't go back with you." It was very quiet, but he'd basically decided that this 'woman' was Dro. He was putting up a mental smokescreen and he'd made himself look different, but the methods and mannerisms were all too close for it to be a coincidence.

Rose decided to straddle him. It was the easiest way to keep him in her grasp. It also added an extra layer of fucked up because she could grind against him when she pleased. Her right hand remained at his throat, the other had a vice grip on Jonas' shoulder. "We can do it here, then," she smirked at him.

It took a moment for her to realize she was bleeding. He must have hit her in the nose. She sniffled and felt her nose pop back into place. She made a face and scrunched up her nose. "What year is it, lovely one?"

He turned his head to the side so he wouldn't have to look at her, even though the open wound on his cheek grated against the brick. He didn't care. "2007," he said dully, staring off into space.

Rose leaned in close, nuzzling against the uninjured cheek. "Are you telling the truth, lovely?" She squeezed his shoulder, hard, gripping onto and tearing flesh. "You mustn't lie to me. It's important." Rose knew that Jonas had to have been telling the truth, or close enough to it. But she enjoyed drawing this out.

"...eight," he said, holding stock still despite the fact that her touch made him want to break away all over again. "2008." He shut his eyes again when she dug her claws into him, shuddering very slightly. God, this was so wrong. He had to cling to every shred of self-control he had not to enjoy this on some level. What was wrong with him?

Her lips were pressed soft against his ear. The words were a whisper that Jonas probably had to strain to hear. "Lie to me again and I will cut you to shreds." It wasn't a threat. It was a promise.

So Rose knew when she was now. Good. That was the most important thing. Everything else could be found out on her own. But there was one question that she needed to ask. "Tell me, is Emma Frost alive?"

Her threats fell on deaf ears. He'd decided that the best idea would be just to lock everything up--the pain, the fear--until this was over. He went a little more limp, letting her do what she liked with him. His eyes were dim. "I don't know her," he said, honestly so.

He wasn't lying. Rose could smell a lie. But she was feeling stubborn. The hand that was on his shoulder snaked down to his hand. Her fingers wrapped around his pinky. "Is Emma Frost alive?" She pulled hard. There was a snap.

His head jerked back a little, and he bit his lip. But he didn't look like he was in pain, not really. "I don't know her," he said again, his eyes hooded. "I've never met her."

This was very quickly growing boring. Jonas didn't know. No matter how many fingers she broke, he would respond in the same way. Someone had played with him before. "Broken toys are never any fun to play with," she said, leaning in so that there was little space between them. Her claws were pressed so tight against his throat that if he struggled, she'd certainly cut him.

"You gave good chase. I think I'll let you live. Today." If she ever saw him again she'd kill him. But at the moment, Rose was feeling generous. In one very swift movement, she broke the middle finger of the same hand. Then, she brought her hand up and ran her index finger down his nose.

He didn't struggle, holding perfectly still despite her touch. He didn't flinch when she broke his finger. He shivered a little, and shut his eyes. "Thank you, he said softly. He waited for her to leave, or kill him, or hurt him again. He'd given up control at this point.

At this point, she'd normally go in for the kill. But she didn't. He wasn't struggling. It wouldn't be any fun and she'd get herself all messy and bloody with no spare clothing around. Rose licked her lips and pressed a soft kiss to Jonas' cheek. "You're welcome." She smiled at him, let her claws wander down his chest so that she ripped his clothing and exposed his chest to the cold night air.

And then she was off of him, practically skipping off into the night.

Jonas opened his eyes a fraction, watching her go. Then, when she was out of sight, he turned and started walking deliberately in the opposite direction.

...and found himself at home, thousands of miles away, in New York. He felt sick immediately, collapsing onto his couch.

Sleep. He needed sleep.
