"I do feel at ease," she assured him, surprising herself a little in the process. "I'm not really sure why--you'd think I'd be more out of sorts." Maybe she was just grateful to be rescued from the cold. Maybe the snow had frozen her brain. Maybe there was something about Andivad that she found calming.
She did frown some when he explained there was no way home. She had begun to suspect that from the moment her location spell didn't work. She should be more heartbroken about that, and perhaps she would become homesick once she'd had time to process everything. She did have family back home, after all, but she hadn't grown up with any of them. Her closest friend had been gone for some time, so that was no reason to miss the Old Kingdom. She did hope Sabriel would be able to find another Abhorsen-in-training, though she wasn't sure how that process would work.
"Oh." She nodded, struggling a bit to listen now as he explained the realm of the humans. "Ancelstierre is like that," she murmured. South of the wall, they had machines that wouldn't work in the Old Kingdom, and magic was nearly impossible to do in Ancelstierre, unless there was a strong wind from the north. But he knew all that!
