He'd been humming. It was a nonstop thing, but thankfully there had been no lyrics. Not yet. At the moment, it was They Can't Take That Away From Me, a Gershwin classic from 1937. He didn't really know where it had come from, but it was stuck in his head and looping. Tony must have sensed something. Steve assumed that it had been Tony, but he might have been a little unfair - anyone with access to the door locks could have done it. Jarvis, even. All he really knew was that, when he'd reached the door, it wouldn't open. There was an open space overhead, half walkway and half balcony, and Steve considered trying to scale it. And that's when he noticed that he wasn't alone. Jean. Sweet, fantastic Jean. Eek. He didn't trust himself to open his mouth. He was going. To start singing. |
