Neal had gotten a text from BB this morning, and now that he had a quick second toward the end of work, he managed to get a hold of her. "Hey, Beebs. You rang?"

	"Hey, I just wanted to check in with you. I've got a surprise for you at home, so be ready. And if you hate it, don't worry, it's not permanent unless you want it to be." She was lounging in a sunbeam with said surprise, drowsy and content. (Reply to this)

	"This surprise is not food." She laughed, shaking her head even though he couldn't see it. "Most assuredly not food. I'm going to hang up so you don't have to guess - just come home soon." She smiled and closed her eyes, yawning. (Reply to this)

	"Okay. I'm off in ten minutes, I'll see you then." Neal smiled, hanging up the phone. He got in the door about a half hour after that, looking around for his girlfriend. "BB? It's me." Where was she? Normally she met him at the door. (Reply to this)

	She was by the door - he'd see her blue toenails if he looked down and to the left. She was on the floor, head on a large pillow, near a furry object the size of one of Neal's slippers. They were both softly snoring. (Reply to this)

	Neal did see her feet first, coming into the main living room. But he saw the surprise next - a softly snuffling puppy. He laughed, nudging BB's side with his shoe. "Beebs. BB, it's me. Who's this?" (Reply to this)

	BB's eyes opened slowly, and she smiled brightly when he nudged her. "Hey, Caffrey. He's got a name the breeder gave him, but it's awful. Sunflower is the worst name ever." She sat up, which made the puppy sit up, yawning expansively. (Reply to this)

	She sat up, scritching his ears. "He's a pembroke Welsh corgi, and I picked him up from the breeder today." She blushed, ducking her head. "Just ... I don't know, from talking with you, I got this mental image of you wanting a dog and never having one." She chewed her lower lip, grinning when the tiny dog stumbled off of the pillow to start sniffing Neal's shoes. (Reply to this)

	"Dani sent me a picture of a cute little corgi all muddy and I thought of finding a puppy for you. I kind of fell in love with the breed when I went and visited a breeder." She bit her lip and smiled when the dog started to lick Neal's finger. (Reply to this)

	Neal laughed softly; he couldn't help but be a little charmed, holding his hand steady for the little guy to lick. "He seems sweet." He grimaced a little, though. "I just ... we do have expensive stuff in the house, though." (Reply to this)

She sat up, grinning, moving to the stairs. "Expensive stuff upstairs, right?" She showed him a wooden folding gate that the dog wouldn't be able to move past even when he was fully grown. She shrugged. "If you really don't want to, I understand - he's just here for two days as a trial, and if you hate having a pet, he'll go back to his mom and his siblings. But if you do like him, well, all of our stuff that we really worry about is upstairs. If he gnaws on the kitchen table, worse things could happen."

	His tail was also wagging, thumping happily. BB stood up and stretched, grinning to herself. "Want a drink? I just opened a bottle of wine if you want a glass while we wait for dinner." (Reply to this)

	"Yeah, that'd be nice." Neal laughed, getting up and going to follow BB, though he waited for the dog to follow. The puppy eventually got the idea, getting up and waddling along with him into the kitchen. "Okay, Beebs, he's really adorable." (Reply to this)

	She nodded and grinned when the dog followed Neal. Not her, the girl who had been snuggling and napping with him for the greater part of the day - but Neal. "I think he likes you, Caffrey." She smiled and moved to pour him a glass of red wine, waiting for the pork chops in the oven to finish. (Reply to this)

	"The breeder's a good woman, but ... terribly precious. His whole litter sounds like a guestlist for a Grateful Dead show." She kissed him back, arms around his waist. She let her head rest on his shoulder, amused by the dog's affections. "We can change it, though. If you decide we can keep him, we'll figure something out." (Reply to this)

	"I do." Neal had to admit. And really, she'd dealt with his major objection. "I don't want to make it permanent until the days are over. But he's really ... nice. Friendly." 	"Oh, no, he's already crate trained." She smiled and moved to show him the huge wire cage that was padded and set up with blankets and a few toys. She'd put it into a spare closet area. "He goes into it when he's sleepy most of the time anyway, and I put him into it while I showered earlier. Not a peep." (Reply to this)
