Mordred stopped, time seemed to stop.. or felt like it did after he saw what happened. He had a look of shock in his face. This was not supposed to happen! Sure, he had killed before. Intentionally. But they were a threat, they were going to kill him. This one had done nothing. Was actually very nice to him. And now it seemed she was embraced by death.
The men weren't iced, or not fully. Their feet were stuck in ice, unable to move. But for how long? The young boy held his hands at the ice. He pounded once. Nothing. It was very solid. Again he was reminded that magical mistakes were very dangerous, once again his power out of control. He was kneeling down by Lilo's ice prison, slapping his palms even tough it was useless. His voice a murmur as he stared down at the ground. "I'm.. sorry, I didn't intend.. this isn't.. I'm sorry, please don't.." He couldn't string together a thought. She was young, and nice, and very kind, didn't deserve this at all. And he now heard the men's feet break free.. but then somehow the sound of them moving away confused him. He felt a hand on his shoulder. Not an adult's. One similar to his. He looked up.
It was Jake Thorn. "It's okay. It will be okay. I.. used my mind thingajig whatever, they somehow wanted to go get donuts now. You did this? But I see you didn't intend it. I've been looking everywhere for you, you know. If you were gonna run off, me and my dad would have let you stay."
Mordred sighed, both angry and regretful about the ice. This was one death he didn't intend. Of course it meant he wasn't getting food, but mostly it was the fact that it was one of the few people he met that was truly nice. Someone new he never saw before. And now she'd be gone. He listened as Jake told him to hold the ice, and both boys knelt down and held their hands to it. Mordred felt his hands have this.. intense warmth to it. And somehow Jake's touch was making the surface sprout cracks, at the same time as he was using magic to melt it.
In a little while, the ice was breaking off, mostly water, and what little was left were now various cubes of ice. Mordred didn't think Lilo looked good. Sleep, but.. he felt it was worse. Now he had even more reason to go, to flee to yet another country. He spoke softly then, unsure if she would hear or if her spirit had lingered, "Lilo, this... I didn't want this, but it happened anyway. Gone because of my magic. I.. should have been more careful, and I'm sorry.." He then started to get up, unsure if he should run and let jake stay to deal, or to stay himself. It was his own mess that did this after all. For some reason he didn't feel right about running off, even if the men did come back.
