Who: Kara and OPEN
When: Afternoon
Where: New York
What: Stopping a crime
============
Kara had spent a bit of time flying the night before, mostly around places described by those who replied to Jean's post. She had managed to stop a few crimes around London, prevent some auto accidents in Germany, maybe stop a flooding in Cuba. Now after a bit of rest, she thought she might like to see New York. As she stood on the rooftop of a skyscraper, it all looked quite intriguing from this view. But then her ears picked up something disturbing from a few miles away. Sirens. Guns cocking, people whimpering in fear, men shouting in demands, locks opening. And a sound of ticking. Her eyes scanned the city for the auditory source of the chaos and.. it was a bank robbery. This was bad. Very bad. The police had their hands full. And they could very well deal with the situation with a negotiator and snipers. But not explosives. Chance was great that human lives can be lost even if they caught the crooks.
So she sped down in a blur, a streak of red in blue and landing at the doors and walking right inside. The cops at the barricade outdoors were alarmed by it and didn't understand what they saw. Kara stood inside the bank in her red boots and skirt, blue top, and family bracelet with the \S/ insignia engraved on it. There were four robbers in ski masks, holding shotguns and pistols. Employees and customers huddled on the floor, crying and afraid. The vault had just opened. There was a sophisticated looking bomb on the floor as well, by a desk. The trigger had to be somewhere. One robber grabbed a hostage and pointed a gun. Kara used her speed, and a second later the gun was removed and the man tossed aside. The other three yelled, "Don't move or we kill you and all these wussies with our guns!!" One of them shot with a pistol to her, then another. The bullets just bounced off her.
"What guns," she asked, looking confused. A colored blur and two seconds later, she had the guns in her hand and bent every one of them, making them useless. She smirked. "Ohh. You mean, those guns. Sorry." They were mad. A man punched to her face and immediately reeled back in pain. She chose to end it by grabbing two of them and throwing them to the wall, knocking them unconscious. The third she grabbed by his coat and pulled him into the vault and closing the large door.. a door which had taken the effort of three big men to pull open before. She turned and saw the fourth. He had something in his hand. The trigger. He yelled, "Okay, you're done for, if I can't have the money, I'm taking you all with me.."
The man's hand was on the button. Too quick. She used her enhanced vision. Ticking. And now beeping sounds came from the explosive bundle by the desk. She saw the counter. Four seconds left!! The leader was clearly a nutjob. She quickly grabbed a hold of the bomb and sped out the door, jumping high up in the air and hovering. Looking eastward and up. Good. No air traffic for at least a fifty mile radius at the bank's location. The cops panicked in surprise. She spun a few times and then let go of it. The device quickly soared up fast, very fast, up into the sky. Through the clouds at a blinding speed. Just as it was about to reach space, there was a huge explosion, a ball of white hot fire. Thankfully no one was hurt. Then she looked at the officers. They seemed a little on edge, but slightly relieved to be out of danger. The idea of a girl flying without a harness probably wasn't a foreign concept. She find that interesting. The symbol on her bracelet seemed to attract some attention too as some were pointing at it. Probably hadn't seen that type of metal before.
"The hostages are fine," she spoke then. "Those robbers are unarmed too, most unconscious. Though.. you may need to open the vault to get one of them out." As a barrage of questions rained upon her, she sighed. "I'm.. I guess you can call me Supergirl. I'm one of those heroes that people talk about." That was what the team back home, and the papers, had called her after all. But now her work was done, the authorities could handle the rest of the situation from here. So she simply jumped up and took off upward, flying away from the scene and landing on one of the building rooftops a few blocks away. Maybe she had enough time to get a cup of coffee. Rao willing, there wouldn't be any more crimes to halt before she managed to sample one.
