WHO: Yang Min-jee and Uzza
WHAT: Meeting and getting oriented
WHERE: Toshima Island, Uzza's shrine
WARNINGS: Nah. Uzza's a huge flirt, but that's all.

Minjee had heard noise in the hall when she'd been discussing things with the Chinese lady. She'd gotten up and started to creep toward the door, not sure of what she'd find. Maybe a miko or someone? Hopefully not the patron ... Miss Qing said he was kind, but she didn't know for sure.

She got up to the edge of the door and came face to face with an Asian man with slightly shaggy hair and wings. Minjee yelped, jumping backward out of whatever line of fire.

Uzza had been expecting Asumi, the miko who helped out around the shrine. What he hadn't been expecting was possibly the prettiest girl he'd seen in a century screaming at him and flailing. He almost dropped Yuki, which drew a loud yowl from the cat.

Minjee peered around the doorframe, cautious and wary. "You're ... Miss Qing Bu said you were the patron." She spoke Japanese, careful and hesitant, using the formal case. She didn't want to make the Fallen angry.

"Did you only just get here?" He shifted Yuki's weight so she was on his shoulder, but she yowled again, scrabbling to sniff the air around the newcomer. "Yuki, don't be rude," he murmured, blushing and looking at his feet. "Sorry, and I guess I am. I've been here the longest. I just try to look out for the place. I'm Uzza. You've met Qing already? Did she scare you? I'm sorry if she scared you. She does most people."

It wasn't Qing Bu who had scared her. Minjee tried to be calm; most of the time demons could sense fear. "I'm ... I'm an Unfallen," she finally managed, hoping she didn't look terrified. "My name's Yang Min-jee. At least now it is. I had one before I died, but I don't remember it."

"Oh! You're a new angel!" He smiled and reached out to shake her hand, laughing when Yuki tried to sniff and lick her hand. "Min-jee. You're Korean?"

The cat helped; unless the cat was a demon too, this might be okay. "Korean. Yes. I was born in Busan in 1815. I was martyred for my faith under the mighty Chosun." It rattled off her tongue, and she tried to breathe; she was still scared, but tried to not look it. They could smell fear.

"It's been a long time since you were down here. Would you like something to drink, I can make you - Yuki, stop!" The cat was trying to climb into Minjee's arms, and Uzza couldn't help but laugh. His wings were ruffled in pleasure. "I'm sorry, she thinks you're pretty."

She couldn't help a bashful laugh. "She's pretty." Minjee looked away. "I've been watching for two hundred years, but it isn't the same as being there." He, of course, had been there the whole time; he was Fallen, after all. Minjee had to fight the nervous laughter.

"Would you like to hold her?" He offered Yuki over, smiling sheepishly. "You've been watching for as long as she's been around. Come, I'll make you some tea, I can tell you're upset." He was barefoot, and padded quietly back toward his quarters. His dove grey wings were wrapped around his torso to keep himself warm.

"No - no, that's all right." Her reply was maybe a little too abrupt, but Minjee did take the cat, smiling faintly as it allowed her to scratch its little stomach. She followed him, though, cat in hand, not quite sure what to say or do.

"Oh, please, I insist, it's only proper." He smiled when he saw Yuki getting stomach scratches, shaking his head. "She'll do almost anything for a tummy rub, but she likes you. She doesn't like many people. I think it's because you're scared of me. She finds it funny."

Minjee smiled bashfully, but when he said she was afraid of him, her eyes widened. "I - er. The ... Sorry." She looked down. "I worked in a division about twenty below the cherubim, and the only way I heard about the Fallen was through my superior's rumors and rantings and ... yeah."

He smiled sweetly, shaking his head. "Things are always scary when you don't know them. You've never met a Fallen, how could you know what they're like?" Once in his room, he turned on a little hot plate to boil water for their tea. "If you have questions, I can answer them, but honestly, I'm boring. I fell because I got married to a human woman and had a child with her. I don't regret falling in love, but I do regret losing sight of Father's plan. I've been lucky enough to help people gain balance in their lives in other ways, and I think it's a blessing."

Minjee blinked, setting the cat down. "Really? ... That's why you Fell?" She cocked her head. For some reason, she believed him, despite all her indoctrination. "You fell in love?"

"It was more that I lost sight. I fell in love to the point where I was distracted from my mission. Father was here, here on Earth, not just how he's here for everyone - he told me that I fell because of that. Not the love." He put some tea leaves into two cups, smiling when Yuki butted his hand until he gave her some treats.

That made slightly more sense. Minjee shook her head. "It would have ... if you fell for falling in love." She trailed off, feeling tears prick at her eyes. She blinked a little and they went away. "Thank you for explaining."

"You know, sometimes I wish I had a photo of her. I do have a painting, though!" He rifled through a drawer, and then finally pulled out an old bit of parchment. It was under thin glass, and showed a Japanese woman in traditional dress. "Mikoto was the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen. I thought she was an angel."

Minjee could appreciate that. "It's lovely. So's she." She was telling the truth, even. Still, the idea of losing your wings, metaphorically speaking, over one person? Minjee had never met anyone she would do that for. Except God Himself. She smiled, but it was a little sad. "I felt like you feel when I read the Bible the first time."

"I love the Bible. Some of it is a bit confusing in terms of how it's written, but I think it's because it was dictated to so many people by so many angels." He chuckled to himself when the kettle whistled. "Do you take sugar?"

"It seemed to answer all my questions." Minjee jumped at the kettle noise - okay, so she hadn't entirely gotten comfortable with the patron yet. "Sugar? No. I'm Korean." She managed the little joke.

He chuckled. "The woman I was with most recently was from Korea, she told me the same thing once. I simply mean to be polite." He handed over a cup and saucer, as well as some cat treats. Yuki had taken to snuffling around her feet.

Minjee bowed her head on reflex, accepting the cup and sitting down with her legs folded underneath her. The tea was warm and calming, and she felt better for having it. "Why this stuff always helps, I will never know." The cat seemed to echo that, yowling in a noncommittal way. Minjee chuckled, looking down. "What's your name, little one?"

He sipped his own tea, sitting down and breathing in the vapors for a moment before sipping it. "Her name is Yuki. She's been with me for two hundred years, almost two hundred and ten." He smiled at her fondly. "She's the one woman who hasn't left." She was the only one who wanted to stay with him, except his first wife.

"Is she reincarnated?" Minjee looked curious. "I mean, cats don't live so long. And ... what do you mean? Hasn't left?" She looked at Yuki, then at the patron. Had he fallen in love with a mortal?

"She has part of my soul." The cat yowled, showing Minjee her stomach. "Clearly, the part that enjoys tummy rubs and sunshine." He couldn't help but chuckle fondly. "After my first wife passed on, I spent fifty years in solitude, but ... after her, nobody I have fallen in love with has stayed with me longer than a month or two."
