Who: Charles & Hope
Where: London Library & Parts Beyond
When: right after this
What: first meetings!
Warnings: none likely.

After signing off of the computer, Hope took the long way around to the atlases, mostly because the library was how she remembered it from when she was a kid, not that it had changed much since then, at least for her, they'd only had one major remodel. Or would have, between the actual now and the now she remembered.

In any case, she was right where she'd said she'd be by the time Charles got there, curled up in one of the comfortable chairs, one of the books propped up between her lap and the arm of the chair, brow creased just slightly in concentration as she studied the page. Really she looked rather as if she were absorbing all the information there.

Her hair was pulled back, aside from the one strand she'd tugged loose to twist around her finger while she read, looping it around the digit three or four times before letting it go again, uncurling itself before she twisted it up again. The movement was thoughtful, idle, and apparently something she did quite often.

Charles was more than a little nervous. He had seen a few children from the future show up, but he hadn't thought he would see his own. Sadako might have said something about the possibility being there, but he hadn't really thought of having children.

He walked into the library and easily found the right section. He saw the girl sitting there reading. "I hope I didn't keep you long."

She blinked up at the voice, then smiled, shaking her head and closing the book, "Not at all, and even if you had I'm good at keeping myself busy. I think it's part of why I joined so many clubs and teams at school."

She shrugged then, "So, this is weird. But I'll admit that I kind of suspected something like it might happen."

Charles shook his head, "How do you guess something like this?"

He found a seat near by and looked at her. "So I'm guessing Sadako..." He didn't even know how to say it. Oh, Erik would freak out when he found out.

"Sadako facilitated, yes." She agreed with a nod, "And as to being able to guess, I grew up here, I'm used to weird things like this happening every few months, it's just how the place works." She smiled, shaking her head and tucking the free lock of hair behind her ear, "You get used to it, eventually."

Charles shrugged. He'd been here for a while already and he still wasn't any closer to being use to it. "If you say so."

He looked at the large book in her hand. "Tell me a bit about you. I feel a bit at a loss; you know me, but I just barely know you."

She scratched the back of her neck, "Well, I won't say I'm a straight-A student, because it would be a lie, but I make good marks. I'm on the track team, the debate team, and I'm a member of the chess club."

Her brow furrowed, not entirely sure how to go about this, but just going on ahead as she'd been doing, "Aside from English I also speak fluent French and German, I know enough Russian to get myself both into and out of trouble, and I read Hebrew better than I speak it, though I did well enough at my bat mitzvah."

She smiled down at the book in her lap, "I love atlases and maps, I founded the cartography club at school, it's not a huge club, but we all love what we're doing. I made a go at memorizing the dictionary when I was eight, and I got as far as 'apprehensive' before I gave up, claiming that my brain simply wasn't meant to hold that much information."

Charles looked impressed. "That's amazing. French, German, Russian and Hebrew? Wow." He had a daughter and she was evidently pretty brilliant and beautiful. He felt proud. He felt like he'd missed out on so much getting to know her as she grew up. "I wish I had seen you grow up."

"I'm sure you'll still get to." She said with a shrug, smiling again, definitely an expression she'd gotten from Erik, broad and toothy, "I mean, my being here now in no way negates my being born, in fact I think it probably proves it. Somehow. And aside from French, German, Russian and some Hebrew, Sadako made sure to teach me a few key phrases in Japanese as well, just in case."

Charles smiled. "Just seeing you here. It's amazing. I suppose it's true. You being here proves that it will happen. I just never thought it would. You look so much like him."

"Funny, he says the same thing, that I look like you." She smiled again, giving a shrug, "Though usually it's when I want something and I turn on the bloopy eyes." She demonstrated said bloopy eyes, for a moment, even giving him a lip-wibble for good measure, though the smile was back again a moment later, "It works every time. He's just lucky I haven't ever actually wanted a pony or something equally ridiculously girly."

Charles smiled at that. "I can see that he would be a pushover. We are lucky." Erik would just do whatever she said. It was surprising she wasn't more spoiled.

The lack of spoiling was because between the two of them they'd managed to raise her to be sensible, which still surprised some people, and wasn't a surprise at all to others.

She laughed softly at the statement, nodding, "We are, so's he." She shrugged, "Just going to take him a little while to realize it, that's all. Even when I'm from he's ... I don't want to say he's a pessimist, but he still gets suspicious when things go right."

Charles nodded, "He's always like that. I can't imagine he would change that much."

"The way I see it, he's had a reason to be that way longer than he hasn't. So it makes sense, at least to me."

She tucked the errant lock of hair behind her ear again, smiling, "Just means sometimes you've got to come at things from a different angle."

"No argument there." He picked up a random book. "I'm sure I can find a way to tell him that won't make him...freak out too much."

"Good luck." She said with a nod and another soft laugh, "Because seriously, I've been trying and haven't been able to come up with anything besides just showing up for the first night of Hanukkah to help with the latkes, but that could turn out dicey."

"I'll try to warm him up to the idea before Hanukkah."

"That gives you a couple months to work your magic." She said, grinning again, "I have faith in you."
