Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad follows a certain Creed. ([info]allispermitted) wrote in [info]utr_logs,

Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:altaïr ibn-la'ahad, bb lebeau, dani winchester, ezio auditore da firenze

Who: The Assassins; Ezio, Altaïr, Dani and BB
When: Wednesday
Where: An Undisclosed Location. Oooooooooh.
Warnings: Kinky, but no.

The floor of the dojo was dusty, but in good repair. There was minimal lighting and it appeared to be deserted.

In the rafters, Altaïr waited.

He would not ambush Ezio; that was not the point. His entry into this world had been careless and should anyone be watching his movements they easily could have followed him here. He had made a point of that. The Templars were not without their own curious brand of subtlety but Altaïr had yet to meet one that would not follow an obvious mark. He had used that strategy too many times to count.

He assumed, one way or the other, he would not have long to wait. Hidden in the shadows, cloaked in comforting darkness, he waited for Templar or Assassin; whichever came through the door first.

What came in through the door first was Dani. She blinked as she opened the door, sticking to a wall out of Hunter's instinct. She moved to look around, waving BB in after her. Ezio would follow later; she was fairly sure this was some sort of weird test set forth by the older man.

"Because this doesn't look like a trap at all," she murmured, accent even thicker because of the stress. The two girls stood back to back, a familiar position from the days they'd taken ballet classes together.

BB had a light soprano voice with a Southern lilt in contrast to Dani's deep London alto. "Oh, I'm sure it is, but we'll get it, right?" She held up a hand, motioning for Dani to wait. There was a point in the corner where she could jump up into the rafters. "I'm a monkey, you know that," she grinned. She ran over to the corner so she could get height, and at the last moment jumped as high as she could. Her reward was hooking an arm around a low beam, and a forearm full of splinters.

Ezio heard a muffled curse from the interior building, and it made him wonder; he disdained training inside most of the time; assassins conducted most of their business outside, after all. Still, for a building that was mostly unused except for him and the ladies, it was worth investigating. Though he'd slap Zevran if it turned out to be he.

The door was a trifle ajar; he stood just behind it, trying to see inside. He saw Dani, guarding her back, and a pair of legs which had to belong to Brier. He would let the ladies distract whomever might still be in there; he turned around the backside of the building and slipped in a window, ignoring the women and hoping they paid him the same courtesy.

His practiced eyes found the anomaly after a few moments more; he knew the shape in the rafters. He assumed it was Altair, but whatever assassin it was, it was an assassin. He spoke in English calmly. "Do you believe yourself followed by Templars, messere?"

Ah, there he was, entering now. Altaïr nodded in greeting, diverting his attention from the two girls who had entered the deserted building. With a leap, he dropped to the floorboards, straightening by the man who he assumed must be Ezio.

"I find that they get around to it eventually. And I was not exactly subtle upon arrival."

Altaïr looked straight at the Italian for the first time, marking similarities, imprinting his features on his memory.

One could never be too careful.

"Ezio, I presume." Qing had told him that much. The rest, he would let his fellow Grand Master sort out.

Dani blinked, flailing a little when random men fell out of the rafters. "That's hardly fair, you're all ... bloody monkeys, really," she muttered. Leaning against the wall, she watched the two of them, ready to intervene on her boyfriend's behalf if the new arrival proved to be more enemy than ally. Ezio might trust him implicitly because he was an assassin. She, however, did not.

BB still watched from the low beam she'd found, and moved to sit down on it. She dangled her legs daintily, glad she was wearing jeans, but figured it would be more appropriate if she were on the ground; Altair would likely want to evaluate her. Dropping from the beam to the floor, she dusted off her bottom and smiled at her friends.

Ezio nodded once. "Ezio Auditore. I became Grand Master in the year 1499, in the Italian states." He turned toward the ladies, introducing them one by one. "Brier LeBeau, though she is referred to as BB. And Danielle Winchester, who goes by Dani." His accent added an unintentional 'a' sound on the end of Danielle, and he smiled at her. "Ladies. Altair ibn la'Ahad, of Masyaf, in what is now Syria."

Altaïr bowed his head, arms at his sides. "Greetings." He noted the distrust of the elder woman. Good.

"I do not believe we should take Templar silence to mean Templar absence." Addressing the group, he stood with his arms across his chest, the hidden blade pressing against his forearm. He could not believe for an instant that whatever had happened to bring him here was a matter of chance.

Dani folded her arms, her broad shoulders squared. She slightly inclined her head, knowing that she came across as frosty but not really caring. "Of course we shouldn't. The more I've read about them, the more I think they just moved out of government and into corporations. Which makes sense, really." She wrinkled her nose. "Money controls governments now just the way it did in your time."

BB nodded, taking a flanking position beside her friend. "Just because we're fewer in number than your time doesn't mean that we can't still take action. We simply have to do it more wisely." She didn't look as wary or distrustful as Dani, but it was simply because she felt she had no reason to be. She'd been taught to trust most people that were in the Guild, and she did that. She assumed if he'd gotten in, his motives were pure.

Ezio came in somewhere between. This man was his ancestor, but he had his own motivations, the same as anyone. "Our first priority should be information." He shook his head. "We must discover what we can before we attack or defend. Right now we are ill equipped to do either." He turned to Dani. "I spoke to your friend, and if you vouch for him, I believe you." He didn't go into it, if only because Altaïr would not comprehend Alistair's place of origin. "I also believe we must investigate this Abstergo I spoke of, messere." For Dani and BB he briefly explained again that until recently, the Order had been plentiful. Then the Assassins were murdered, all except a handful now hiding somewhere in continental Europe.

Altaïr nodded, parsing the information the best he could. To say his worldview had shifted yet again would be an understatement, but he was oddly well equipped to handle such things.

"Nor would I advise caution, al anesah," he said calmly to BB, shaking his head slightly. "I have seen the Order fewer than this, I assure you." For a moment he seemed lost in heavy thought, but Altaïr knew this was not time for idle musing. "To gather the knowledge we can about the actual enemy we face here is imperative." He would ask Ezio about this friend later.

"Where is Abstergo then?"

Dani was still standing squarely, but she relaxed a moment later. She'd never heard of the company. "I don't know of them, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. I know some people who're good at finding things - " She looked at Ezio. "Hackers. Maybe they're a bit more private here?"

"I wonder if they're not a subsidiary of some larger group here," BB mused. She figured this was a better starting point than stabbing in the dark at Maybe Templars. "I have to travel with work, and we're going to Portugal tomorrow. I'll see what I can drudge."

"It is a good beginning." Ezio shook his head. "I cannot be specific as to nationality of this company - I am told they spoke English, but English is the universal trade language in this day and age, as Arabic was in yours" - he looked at Altaïr - "and Venetian was in mine."

Again, Altaïr nodded. "As strange as this is, I must say I am relieved to find allies in such times. And you have my apologies for the strangeness of this location. I had hoped that if I had excited any Templar interest to bring them here as well."

His lips twisted into a sardonic smirk. "My world or not, I could not resist the chance for an early strike." Revenge was not part of the Creed, but he could not shake the image of Maria from his mind.

That made Dani laugh. "Eh, same reason I always carry a knife in my boot, yeah?" She looked at Ezio and nodded. "English is the lingua franca, yeah. S'probably why you both speak it, I reckon, you both probably replaced people who did."

"Same reason I'm glad I have my hinky superpower." She jokingly called her abilities as such, though she likely knew they were a castoff from her mother's world and her biodad's terrifying god-like DNA.

Thinking to herself, she cocked her head to the side. "I'm going to see if the name means anything - maybe there's a contextual clue somwhere."

"We are only supposed to defend, never attack." Ezio thought of how to put it, and eventually just chuckled. "There are occasions where that rule is broken. And yes, I never spoke anything but the dialect of Firenze during my lifetime, so it was very odd when I suddenly understood the Englishers when I landed."

Altaïr's face flickered slightly, and he nodded. "Consider this an attempt at a late defense."

A far too late defense.

Looking up at the other man, he moved to a different subject. "Have you found others that would make acceptable recruits?" He was not intending to cast after lead, but they would certainly need stronger numbers.

"Not yet, but to be quite honest, it has not been my first priority to look." Ezio felt somehow on the spot. "We replace people here; I had to get my life in order and make certain I was able to function." He didn't look at Dani; they could speak later on.

That made Altaïr pull up short. "I confess to giving that little thought. We replace people? I had assumed that the Templars were behind this. What could be gained by such a scheme?"

This became more curious by the moment.

"Understood."

Dani bit her lip. "There's people here with ... magic. My family's hunted supernatural creatures for a long time, but it sounds like you didn't have them where you come from. There's just - I don't know how they'd manage to pull gods through."

"It would be just too hard to pull everyone in from so many different universes. And points in time. My mother has an infant version of me - about seven months old. But I'm here in my past too." Ezio nodded. "I know, messere, that you probably think there is Templar treachery afoot, and there may be; however, I am unconvinced." He faced Altaïr. "There may be devilry afoot. But whatever force may govern this place is far bigger than i Templari, for good or ill."

He nodded once again with a wry twist to his lips. "You will forgive my suspicions. This extraordinary change is a bit to take in." For the moment, Altaïr was willing to accept that this was beyond the Templars. He still knew that they would face them sooner or later.

Fate was never so kind.

"Are there others you feel would be an asset to the order," Altaïr asked Ezio, hopeful that there may be at least a few his comrade saw as worthy.

"There are several, but I have not asked." Ezio refused to feel awkward about his private life. Oh, cazzo, he had not told Altaïr about the strange games he had encountered; their games. "The Order has a different ... profile here than you are likely used to." How was he going to explain this?

[info]allispermitted
2011-10-21 12:48 am UTC (link)
Altaïr arched an eyebrow, but said nothing. He had always been aware of what his fellow Assassins' got up to in their spare time as a matter of security, but never got involved or judged.

For example, the obvious chemistry between the older two before him. None of his affair, to pardon the pun. He would be a hypocrite in the extreme to involve himself in matters such as this.

He waited for Ezio to expound on this 'other profile'. If anyone knew the wisdom of judicious silence, it was he.

Well, that was one way to tell him. Ezio simply nodded. "There are games starring you and me, and one of our descendants called Desmond. People have heard of the Order. It tends to make recruiting the truly exceptional more difficult. As opposed to the stronzi who simply think it a status symbol."

It was the first time that Altaïr had looked genuinely surprised the entire conversation.

"... games. People see this as a pasttime, like tournaments or jousting?" One of the many reasons he had always despised knights. Altaïr could not tolerate idleness.

She shook her head. "They're more like plays that the other person participates in. If it's any consolation, the Order is the hero. Templars are never painted as anything but evil. It's ... well, I just wouldn't tell certain people who you are. Or if they ask if it's related to the game, just say no." It wouldn't be hard, these were men who'd never touched a video game in their lives. "I'll make sure my brother leaves you alone, he's a drooling fan."

"They're popular, but most people don't play them. It's really mostly people that ..." She wondered how to gently say 'don't see much sunlight and have the physical prowess of a two legged piglet' delicately. "They're people who appreciate stories, not people who can take decisive action."

Ezio shook his head. "They do not see the Order as a game, really. But they will see it as less important than it is. A source of drama." He chuckled faintly at the look on his ancestor's face. "Who knows, that may prove a good thing in the long run ... if the Templars think us silly and wayward, they will underestimate us entirely."

Altaïr shook his head as if to clear it. So much to deal with in a single day.

"We shall have to count on that," he mused and paced the floorboards, barely unsettling the dust. "And in spite of our minimal numbers, exercise caution in recruiting more to the Order. If they are, as you say, unsuited to action, there is no point in pursuing such people."

Nodding, BB looked at Altair. "Where did you end up? You could always stay at Guildhall with my friends. They're uh. Assassins too, but it's kind of a different order? They're mostly just... paid to. You know." She bit her lip. "They're good people for the most part, and understand the differences between Orders." She shot Ezio a look that said oh crap help me.

"That may not in fact be necessary," Ezio interjected smoothly. "In the pocket of those trousers." He pointed at Altaïr, reaching into his own pockets as an example. "There should be a folded leather rectangle which bears identification. A card of some kind telling you what the name of the person you replaced is. Even if you do not wish to be this person, they will have a shelter of some kind you can use."

Nodding to himself, Altaïr fished out the packet from his trousers. The address would be simple enough to find. And he was exhausted, now that he allowed himself time to think about it.

"I would not wish to intrude in any case. But the hour is getting late, and it has been a long day. If you truly believe the danger is not immediate, it would perhaps be unwise to continue this clandestine meeting in an abandoned building."

A ghost of a smile flitted across Altaïr's lips.
