Who: Han and Leia
What: Reuniting
Where: Kungsträdgården, Stockholm, Sweden
Warnings: Probably not. They swear in space-talk. It's safe for young ears.

Escaping from the Royal Palace had been a doddle for someone with a lifetime's experience at sneaking out from under the eyes of the people who were supposed to be watching her. There were a few alarms and fences to cause trouble, but nothing Leia couldn't handle. Navigating Stockholm was no more difficult, though she was impressed by the crowds. And surprised; it'd been a long while since she'd been anywhere with such an overwhelmingly humanoid population. Were there no other races on this planet at all?

A few people stared at her as though seeing someone familliar, but all apparently dismissed the resemblance as their imagination. Fortunately. She didn't really want to waste time bluffing and pretending to be someone else, she was in too much of a hurry.

Six months. Six months without a word, and he'd been here, wherever here was. Clearly not his fault, given that she'd been taken as abruptly and with as little warning. Her heart clenched when she thought of how pained Luke must be, back home. She had to find a way back, if it was at all possible. Not just for Luke, but for everyone. There was so much work to be done. Peace needed to be built, it didn't just spring up from the ashes of war like the legendary rebirthing firebirds.

Even so, she couldn't help being happy to set all of it aside for now.

Leia stood on the rim of the Fountain of Molin to give herself a bit more height, and wished she'd picked somewhere without quite so many people. She'd never spot Han at this rate.

The commotion was barely a flutter in the crowd at first, then more and more people scatter as a man with messy hair and a black vest all but forces them out of his way.

A little over a week, but it felt half a lifetime. He had to tell her about Jaina, about their future together. About everything.

He had to kiss her.

"Leia?!" he all but bellowed, trying to find her in the crowd.

"Han!" She'd know that scruffy hair anywhere. Leia leapt off the fountain's edge and ran, pushing through the people blocking the way, until she finally reached him. She didn't bother with greetings, or getting somewhere more private; she honestly didn't care. She launched herself at him and dragged his mouth to hers, wrapping her arms around his neck. There were a few catcalls from passers-by, and she couldn't care less about those either.

His arms wrapped around her waist, holding her halfway in the air. He always managed to forget how small she was; her personality overrode any thoughts someone might get about seeing her as diminutive in any way. Han threaded his fingers in her hair, resting his forehead against hers as they caught their breath.

"Oh right. Now I remember."

It might have been possible to power the Falcon with his grin.

Leia laughed even as tears formed in her eyes. "You better, you laser-brained scoundrel." Six months. Everyone around her had been rejoicing, celebrating the end of the Empire, and she'd been torn, half of her exulting with them and the other half of her desperate to know where he'd gone and how she could find him. "Damn it, Han, I thought you were really gone for good this time."

She kissed him again. She'd forgotten how passionate his kisses were. Actually, she hadn't, but the memories paled to the reality.

He felt no need to answer right away. Talk later. Kiss now. The brain reorganized priorities when you were a little short on oxygen.

Han finally pulled away, giving her his absolutely most charming scoundrel grin. "Hey. You couldn't believe I'd really leave you like that, could you?"

The question was flippant but there was a kernel of worry.

"Not on purpose, no," Leia answered as he set her back on her feet. She brushed the water from her eyes and smiled brilliantly up at him. Same Han, same irrepressible grin. "And even if you had, I certainly couldn't believe you'd have left the walking furball behind. But what did happen? Lando swore up and down that he hadn't heard the Falcon take off, that it'd just disappeared and you with it, while no one happened to be watching. None of us could understand it."

Though she doubted his story would be any more plausible than hers, given that she'd gone to sleep one night in her own bed and woken up the next morning in someone else's, on a completely different planet, ostensibly as a different person. How it'd happened, she couldn't imagine.

Han threw his hands up in a gesture equal parts befuddlement and aggravation. "That was pretty much it. The Falcon landed in the desert here, out of gas and apparently out of our time." In an instant, he remembered Jaina. How the hell could he explain that?

Eh. Later.

"And look, don't get me wrong, I wish the hairball was here. But it was you I missed." He couldn't quite let her go. Not just yet. "How about Luke and Lando and the rest? Did we really stop the Empire?" It was likely too soon for a complete victory, but it was a hell of a start. He wasn't still cautious, he was a smuggler after all, but he knew this was her life's passion.

Leia pursed her lips and frowned. "I might not have believed it before today, but given that the same thing's happened to me, more or less..." Wait, out of their time? That would explain a few things. Though only a few. "Han, where are we? What planet, what sector? Have you been able to find out?"

She reached down and took his hand, squeezing it. "I missed you, too. Every day, we tried to find you. Not that we knew where to look, but we tried. And yes, we really did stop the Empire, for the most part." Though that was too long a story, and one that wasn't even over. Leia was getting the feeling she wasn't going to be seeing the rest of it, however. "Look, we should find somewhere to sit, at least. There's a lot to catch up on."

He wished, not for the first time, that the Falcon was running. No one would bug them there. He looked around for a bench, unwilling to let go of her hand for even a second. As he looked around, he answered her questions the best he could.

"No star chart can tell me the sector, but the planet is named Earth. Their calendar doesn't follow ours, so I can exactly tell you when. But for me, it hasn't been a week. For you, it's been months." Han paused, looking down at her. "And there's others here. From our future."

Well. Here goes nothing.

Leia's grip on his hand was made of iron; he wasn't alone in that. "We don't have to stay here. Even if the Falcon's not working--and really, what else is new?--we can still get in it, correct? I only suggested here because I needed a place I knew I could get to." Leia grimaced. "Actually, if you have one of those transporters you mentioned handy, it'd probably be good idea for us to get out of here. I suspect they won't be happy at the palace when they find I'm gone, and I need a lot more intel before I can decide if I want to return or not."

Earth, Earth...didn't ring any bells. Leia frowned again. She didn't like the look on his face at all. "From our future? Han, what are you talking about?"

Han exhaled, running a hand through his hair. Where to even begin?

"Our daughter is here."

Best to get it over with, right? Leia would appreciate the honesty, probably.

Han knew he had made a gross tactical error. He also knew he had no way out.

"I... Well..."

As a rule, he didn't sputter. At the moment though, it was hard to form words. Mainly due to the fact he had no idea what to tell her.

Daughter. Daughter? They had children? She had children? She couldn't have children. She'd decided that, in light of what she'd learned on Endor. Of course she wanted them, had wanted them, might even have wanted them with Han someday, it was expected of her as a member of the royal family of Alderaan, but she wouldn't take the risk. And besides, it wasn't possible. Was it? "But...we haven't even..." Leia struggled to get words past the clamor in her head. Her hand had tightened around his to a degree that must be painful, but she didn't notice, just stood in the middle of the sidewalk with the blood drained from her face. "I'm sure I'd remember."

Han was many things. A smuggler, a scoundrel, a rebel, and working real hard on lover. But he wasn't a coward. Yeah, he'd screwed up telling her like that, but he could fix it. Probably.

Also, at any other time, he'd be deeply amused that her first issue with the idea was strictly logistics.

"I know, we haven't." He still was pissed off at Jabba for that. Sure, the Hutt had already been dead at that point, but his hibernation sickness had proven an... impediment for the one time they had even come close. If he never returned to Tatooine, it'd be too soon.

Han squeezed her hand back, doing his damnedest to be comforting. It wasn't his strong suit. "She's from our future. She's fully grown. I'm sorry. I screwed that up."

There. Again, to the point.

Leia herself was many things: princess, politician, rebel leader and tactician, and used to being all those things before being a woman and possibly lover. Instincts began gradually to take over, pushing her shock and dismay to the side. Think. Then plan. React later, when you have the luxury of time. Arguably she had the luxury of time, this wasn't a war zone for all that she suddenly felt under attack, but at least doing things this way would keep her from being panicked.

Oh Luke, I need you. Automatically she reached out with the Force, as he'd taught her over the past months, searching for his presence and finding...nothing. She wanted to curl into a ball and hide.

She didn't. Instead she started walking forward again, slowly, her brow furrowed in concentration. "From our future. Presumably brought here the same way you and I were, by some unknown...event. What can you tell me about that? What does anyone know?"

Han swallowed, understanding she was pulling away and needed the space.

Man, he hated that.

Pulling the portkey device out of his pocket, he kept her hand in his, and instantly they were pulled to a small town in New York. It wasn't near Jaina's place, where he was staying. That would have been a bad idea; even he knew that. He'd intentionally picked up the portkey a few towns away. Wordlessly he led her to a small restaurant, and requested a booth in the back. It wasn't until they were seated that he began explaining the way all these different universes seemed to be colliding here, and how little they really knew.

"The worst part is how everyone here just seems to accept it. People seem to be okay with starting over here. Maybe they don't have a war to fight. Maybe they're tired of fighting it."

He understood that. Right now he felt exhausted.

Leia reeled a bit as the portkey sucked them through to somewhere else. That was an unpleasant experience, and she staggered a bit as they emerged. At least this new place was less crowded, less overwhelming. Leia was not used to being overwhelmed but this was certainly the day for it.

She listened mostly in silence as he explained the vortex and how it drew people in from elsewhere. Not just other places, but other times. That there was no going back.

This was going to take even more getting used to than she'd anticipated. Leia rubbed her forehead with her free hand; the other was still clasping Han's. "Maybe you're right," she agreed. Starting over and setting down all the duties she'd been handled...it was inconceivable. But what choice did she have? There was no way to contact the others, no way back, even the Falcon couldn't leave. They were trapped on this one planet.

Poor Han. For a man who'd been from one side of the galaxy to the other, that must be one of the hardest parts of the situation. She squeezed his hand, looking at him with concern and setting aside her own problems for the moment. "How have you been settling in? You've never been one for just accepting anything."

Boy, was that a loaded question.

"It was bad before you got here. The Falcon is stuck. I ain't used to that." Han sighed, taking her hand again. "Plus the technology on this planet is just..." He threw his free hand up in exasperation.

He was at a loss. It was almost worse than being grounded. There always was another job, another place to be. Now what did they do?

Leia's mouth quirked in a bit of a smile. "You're not wrong about the technology. The terminal I used to contact you might have gotten the job done but it's not much more useful than a doorstop. Is the Falcon hidden? If the people of this planet came across it, that could be trouble." That flickering smile grew. "From us, if they tried to take it away from you, if nothing else." No one came between Han and his ship, period.

She'd caught that it was bad before you got here, and brought his hand to her mouth, kissing the knuckles briefly and then resting her head on them. At least he was glad to see her.

Happy was an understatement. Not having her there had been an ache. They'd been so close on Endor. It was finally there and open, and when it was taken just like that, it had been overwhelming.

Made him realize just how big this was. He managed a cocky grin.

"At least our blasters still work." He shrugged a little. "The Falcon is safe. In storage." He weighed his options, then went for it. "With Jaina." He couldn't remember ever telling her his mother's name, but they'd get to that.

"Yours, maybe. My blaster didn't come through the vortex with me. Doesn't seem anything did." Leia kept her head resting on his hand, though her fingers twitched when he said Jaina. Not a familiar name, but given the context, that had to be what they'd called their daughter.Their daughter. She cared for Han deeply, she knew that, his absence over the past six months had been a constant dull pain that almost nothing alleviated. But this was still a lot to handle given that they hadn't shared more than a few kisses, even without bringing her concerns about Vader into it.

And she hadn't even told him about Vader yet. She wasn't looking forward to that at all.

Still, Leia hadn't made it this far by hiding from hard truths, no matter what their impact on her personally. "Tell me about her?"

Han was about to point out there was a blaster of hers that she had left on the Falcon when she asked about their daughter.

Ok, Solo. Don't screw this up.

"She's a pretty amazing kid. Well, she's not really a kid. Woman. Young woman. Not the point." He ran a nervous hand through his hair again, then tried again. "She has your eyes, your beauty." Corny, but true. "She's tough, you can tell. Strong. Hell of a pilot but a Jedi too. She's just..."

He trailed off, not sure what she wanted to know. He really still knew so little.

Leia sat up and looked at him. She didn't know what she wanted to know either, really. Has she ever been tempted by the Dark Side wasn't something he'd probably be able to answer. A pilot, that must make Han happy. A Jedi...who taught her? Luke, Leia herself, someone else in this future she doesn't know anything about? Does she know how the war ended? Are her parents married?

Leia groaned aloud and let go of his hand so she could make a frustrated gesture in the air. "Damn it, Han, what are we supposed to do with this...this frakking situation? I don't even know where to start." That was a rare admission from her. Leia could usually come up with a plan of action, but this?

Han couldn't help but smile, grabbing the hand back, stroking it slightly with his thumb. How often did he have to be the rational one? He's pretty sure that wasn't even in the double digits at this point.

"Couldn't tell you, Princess. I don't know if we have a Plan B. Right now, I want to try and find some fuel for the Falcon. Even if it's not enough for the Hyperdrive, just to get her moving again would be something." He knew it would be a fat chance, but he needed some goal.

"And... er." How do you go from the first declaration of feelings to dealing with your adult child in less than a week? "I guess, we just take it a day at a time. No Hutts, no Empire, no Stormtroopers... knowing us, trouble will find us sooner or later, but for right now, we wait for Luke." He had no doubt the little punk would show up, and Han was sure that Leia had leaned on her brother a lot in the months after he vanished.
