WHO: Ezio and Dani
WHAT: Workplaces
WHERE: The London County Morgue to start
WARNINGS: Entirely possible ... but not in the morgue, cause ew.

Ezio had received a call from Dani about zombies in her place of work. In any other world he would consider it mad, or blasphemous, but this place was not normal. He was not frightened, but at the same time, he couldn't help but murmur a prayer before entering the morgue; the dead were to be respected.

He stuck his head in the door, not sure where to go. "Allo?" Ezio called. "Dani? It is Ezio."

She trotted over to the door to greet him. She'd long ago taken off her heels and was her natural six feet in height because of her bare feet. "Hello you. A friend already came and helped with the whole dancing lot of zombies, but you're more than welcome to come and sit with me. I'm sorry you came all the way down here for nothing."

Ezio stepped inside, kissing her on both cheeks. "That is all right; I'm glad all is contained. I would like to stay with you. I was wondering if we could perhaps go somewhere when you are finished here." He followed her into the main room, unfazed by anything but the stench, really.

Her white lab coat was spotless, and she winced when he came into the room. A new body was on the slab, and she was about to fix him up and then leave for the day. "I'd like that very much. I just have to help this gentleman here, then we can get dinner?" She moved to find a chair for him. God, he was handsome. He was dressed nicely, having clearly come from his job, and she bit her lip.

"That would be nice. And then I had imagined you might like to come to the guildhall. Try out the range." Ezio smiled. "I need to practice some things, if I am to train your friend." He couldn't help but be amused, reflecting on meeting Brier LeBeau recently. All that business with her gentleman friend.

Her eyes went wide. "Oh, that would be brilliant! And I brought the Bee today, so I actually have all of my guns!" Bouncing a little, she turned to get her tools, scanning over the patient's chart before taking a few deep breaths to settle into Doctor Mode.

"What is the Bee?" Ezio was curious. He picked up a cloth, taking a few breaths of the clean scent before putting it down. The sight did not disturb him at all, though, only the smell. He remained quiet when she grew serious, figuring she would answer his question later.

"Oh, it's my car." She read the chart once, knowing that she wouldn't have to read it again with her eidetic memory. Moving to the body, she stroked the young corpse's hair, sighing and leaning over to speak to him. "I'm so sorry, sweetheart. I'll see what I can find out, but the police will help too, yeah? Don't worry, Ben, we'll get you taken care of."

Turning to start her tape recorder, she started the first incision, eyes sad but determined.

Ezio was struck by her compassion. Even he sometimes did not give the dead the honor they deserved. His assassination victims, yes; the collateral damage, no. It made him smile, despite the serious nature of the work.

She made quick work of the standard parts of the autopsy. It had been obvious that the poor boy had been murdered - nineteen year olds seldom dropped dead when they were in perfect health. She couldn't find any signs of blunt force trauma or stabbing, and she moved to analyze the contents of the stomach.

A sickening almond smell was still there, and she wrinkled her nose. Cataloging her findings, she stopped the tape recorder. "I'm so sorry, Ben."

Ezio bowed his head; it felt appropriate. Even he knew that smell, unless there had been some new development of poison in this time. "Che peccato," he murmured. Such was time; this could have been his brother Petruccio, had things changed.

Dani shook her head. "The police will find him, Ben. I promise." Lightly she stroked his hair before leaning down to kiss his forehead, covering him with a sheet afterward. Sometimes she teared up, but she was glad she hadn't today.

Once Ben was safely tucked away, she took off her coat and smiled weakly at Ezio. "I'm sorry. You shouldn't have had to see that."

Ezio shook his head. "No, no. I think I should see it more often." He shrugged. "It makes me remember what I ought to accord my victims. I do my best to give them a proper send-off, but I am not always assiduous."

"I like protecting people, and that's what I do when I hunt. But I can sort of help out this way too, you know?" She squeezed his hand, slipping on her shoes and moving out of the room to lock up.

Once they were back on the street, she was her normal all smiles. "Where would you like to go for lunch?"

"I had thought to go to a place near the guildhall," Ezio replied. "I have discovered a restaurant which serves a sort of pasta, but with spices native to that area." He was easy; an Italian would never turn down pasta.

Squeezing his hand, she led him toward her car - a 1969 Dodge Coronet Super Bee that she'd helped her father restore. She usually preferred to walk places, or to take her bike, but she'd taken the car that day because she'd gone to the gym before work and had her bag with her.

"C'mon, we'll take her through the portkey."

He hadn't known that was possible. "Oh. All right." Ezio followed her, smiling when he saw the machine. It was cute, somehow, though much larger than most of the motorcars he'd seen. "It is very big."

"Oh, it's old." Grinning, she unlocked the doors and climbed in. "It's older than my dad is." Once they were in the car, Dani couldn't help but wrap her arms around him and kiss him gently. It had made her happy, the way that he reacted to her job.

Mm. He wouldn't turn that down. Ezio smiled, one hand on her face. "What was that for?" Curiosity, not anger.

"A thank you," she murmured. Her entire life had been spent feeling outcast and strange for what she did and what she was. Ezio made her feel normal.

Ezio smiled, wrapping an arm around her. "I do not know what you would thank me for, but I will take it." She started the car and he jumped faintly, surprised at the engine noise. It was larger than most motorcars.

Smiling broadly, Dani squeezed his hand. "It's a muscle car, they've got huge engines." She ran her fingers through his hair. "You've never driven with a Winchester, have you?"

Backing up, she swung the car into a loud, angry circle, laughing and whooping as she took off. "Zero to sixty in eight seconds, not bad for an old girl." She knew where the closest portkey was, and she knew where Guildhall was. They were going to get there fast.

Ezio could tell. He may or may not have let a grunt of surprise escape as the car jerked into motion. "Diavola!" he murmured, hoping he was able to keep his innards on the inside.

Laughing loudly, she squealed as she motored faster, bringing the car to near ninety as they rounded the corner into the alley with the portkey. "Sorry, I shouldn't do that." But she was laughing loudly as she said it.

"You delight in it!" Ezio laughed, still breathless and uncomfortable, but strangely amused. She looked vibrant and full of life and it was more than a bit charming, actually. "You are a dangerous madwoman." He kind of liked it.

"Oh, my car wouldn't ever hurt us anyway." She tapped the poster that served as the portkey, sending them to just outside of New Orleans. "So, where's this place, gorgeous?"
