WHO: Han Solo and Jaina Solo
WHAT: Visiting the Falcon and likely 'You ARE the Father' talk
WHERE: Sierra Vista, Arizona, in the Desert (Current Parking Spot of the Falcon)
WARNINGS: You pervs.

***

When Han was under stress, he usually found something to fix. A ship like the Falcon was never meant to be crewed by only two, and even with a Wookie keeping everything in working order was a full time job. It's not like Lando had bothered with any of the maintenance after the battle, but it also wasn't like Han expected him to.

For the fifth time that day, he mentally kicked himself for going to get the Falcon at all. Don't worry, I'll be right back, he had told Leia. Now he didn't even know where she was. Had the vortex gotten her too? What about Chewie? Luke? Artoo and Goldenrod? He'd never admit as much, but the worry was downright killing him. On the eve of victory, why did this have to go and happen?

Then there was this Jaina girl.

Han knew in his gut something was wrong. The time thing made as much sense as anything about this planet did, but something else was bothering him. How could someone he'd never met before be so familiar, so comfortable with him? The Falcon was famous to an extent, but she sure seemed to know a lot about it. Part of why he'd let her come to see it was sheer curiosity. The other part he had no idea how to even label.

One thing was for sure. Everything had changed.

Jaina could tell why Han would have thought this was Tatooine. She hadn't been to the desert much. Her motorcycle kicked up dust along the packed road as she approached. She'd been second-guessing whether or not she should even go. Riding usually helped clear her head, but now it just reminded her of Harmony. Maybe this had been a bad idea. She'd lost so many people. Maybe it would be better just to hide herself in a cave and forget everyone else.

As soon as she saw the Falcon, though, she forgot everything else. She nearly spun off the road. She had to slow down and remind herself to keep breathing. It had been six years, but it seemed like a lifetime. Her childhood came rushing back to her. When she stopped her bike and pulled off her full face helmet, there were tears on her cheeks. It was a lot to take in. "I didn't think I'd ever see you again," she said quietly, her eyes on the ship.

Han heard the motor outside, and walked down the gangplank to greet Jaina. He saw the slight figure a distance away, but close enough to see the obvious emotion on her face. He paused just out of sight, unwilling to intrude on whatever had her so upset. (He loved the Falcon too, he just couldn't figure out why she did.)

Seeing her in person just confused him more. She was familiar, but he couldn't begin to figure out why. Maybe she just reminded him of someone. Or maybe he was just going insane. Still, there was something...

Though she hadn't intended it, her motorcycle jacket bore a slight resemblance to the white jacket Leia had worn on Hoth, and her dark hair was braided back and out of her face. Jaina wiped away her tears with the back of her gloved hand, trying to keep herself from crying any more. She didn't think she was going to have such an emotional reaction.

She hung the helmet on her bike and took off the jacket. She started cautiously toward the Falcon, still a little nervous to see her father. It was too late to turn back now, though. Still, distractions were welcome. She wasn't ready to board yet, even if the gangplank was open, so when she saw something wrong, she went for it. Veering away from the gangplank, she pulled out a small, oil-stained towel from her pocket and went to cleaning out one of the hatches that had opened for the landing gear.

Han frowned slightly, walking down the ramp and approaching the girl who was getting awfully familiar with his ship. Still, it somehow, in some way he couldn't identify, seemed ok.

"This dust is murder on her, I know. Might need to rig some shields. What do you think?" He leaned against the Falcon, posture relaxed but he was still obviously on edge.

"The sand'll tear her up," Jaina said, ducking out of the hatch that she was nearly half inside. There was an oil smudge on her cheek that she either didn't care about or hadn't noticed. "Could probably work something up. I've got a few things that might work in my shop, temporarily." That part, at least, felt natural. Working on the ship again was familiar, and she slipped easily back into that mode. She'd nearly called him 'Dad'.

"Probably need to move her somewhere better, eventually. Find a private hanger, or something." Even if they didn't have a fuel to get her in the air, Jaina would be damned if she'd let the Falcon fall apart on her watch.

Han's frown deepened while he watched her. No question she was hiding something, the question simply was what. He knew better than to interrogate at least.

"That's why I avoided Tatooine. Didn't matter how much you could make off a job there, the maintenance would kill you. Glad I took the last one though," he added, more as an aside to himself. Leia had to show up soon, along with the rest.

Jaina didn't seem to be acknowledging Han's discomfort or suspicion. She was focusing all of her attention on the ship, letting her anxiety melt away. "That's loose," she commented, grabbing a hold on the side of the ship and pulling herself up on top of the ship. She had a multitool on her belt, always, and pulled it off her belt.

She was paying attention to her dad, in the half-listening sort of way that she usually did when she was working. "When you met Uncle Luke?" She'd heard the story enough, and it seemed to line up. She wasn't really that concerned about the mistake, now. It was going to come out, anyway. Right now, she was tightening this bolt.

In a split second, Han's world seemed to shift upside down.

When you met Uncle Luke?

She was a pilot, and she knew the Falcon. She was Rogue Eleven, but didn't fight in the Rebellion. She worked on his ship like it was hers. Her name was the same as his mother's.

She had Leia's eyes.

Gently pulling Jaina by her shoulders to face him, Han just looked at her for a long instant, his face a mixture of wonder and befuddlement. Leia should be here, he thought again for the millionth time, forcing his mouth to finally say something.

"Yeah. Where I met Luke."

Jaina had tightened the bolt and dropped back to the ground in the time it took Han to process. She was oddly surprised when he turned her to look at him. It wasn't that she thought he wouldn't figure out. She just hadn't been sure what reaction to expect. The gentle contact made her feel very young.

It was hard for her to hold eye contact, and she only managed for a few seconds before dropping her gaze downward. "I... I'm sorry. I just couldn't.."

To be fair, she'd been back on the ground, had the multitool back in her belt and was halfway around the ship. Han wasn't always a quick study at things right in front of his face. See also, her mother.

For crying out loud, her mother.

It had to be instinct. Han wrapped his arms around her shoulders, pulling her into an awkward but what he assumed was fatherly hug.

"It's okay, kid. It's okay."

Uncle Luke. Leia's eyes. Named for his mother.

"I didn't think.. You'd just gotten here, and you probably haven't even thought about kids and I.." Jaina was easily pulled into the hug. She closed her eyes, resting her head on him and wrapping her arms around him to hug him back weakly. She wasn't going to start crying again, really. She should have gone to meditate before coming. She really wasn't centered at all. But maybe that was okay, right now.

"I just lost somebody important and I.." She sniffled, refusing to acknowledge the tears running down her cheeks.

"I told you, it's ok Jaina," he murmured, trying his best to be soothing. The last thing the kid needed was him freaking out. And he was freaking out. It felt like two seconds had passed since he and Leia had sorted out their feelings. How strange it was to be confronted by the very real proof of that.

It was clear the kid had gone through worlds of trouble on her own, though, and he couldn't focus on his own right now. She had Leia's eyes, but they bore that same weird gravity that Luke's had gotten after his first encounter with Vader. He wondered if she was Force gifted. Seemed likely, although he was happier that she was a pilot than if...

Sheesh. Listen to me being a dad just like that.

"I take it you've been here for awhile."

Jaina took a deep, shaky breath. Maybe this wouldn't make things worse. Maybe. If Han didn't disappear on her. She nodded, not opening her eyes. "Years." It hadn't all been bad, but she'd missed her Dad a lot.

It's okay. She would try to believe that.

"Don't go, okay?" It was a weird thing to say, but she didn't really care. "I have plenty of room, if you need somewhere to stay. I have a pretty bit workshop, but we can get a hangar built if the Falcon needs more space." She had some old projects that could probably be cleared up. Of course, the more daunting task was telling Han that not only did he have a kid, but he had grandkids. That would have to come up at some point.

Han had an absurd need to laugh. He stepped back, running a hand through his hair and grinning. He was reminded of Leia crying on his shoulder a couple nights past; he knew it had to do with Luke but he still didn't know all the details. It amused the he'll out of him that his daughter likely did by this point. What a world he had fallen in to.

"I promise, kid. I won't go anywhere. Maybe your... mother will be here soon, and Chewie and Luke. You'll see, it'll be ok." Strangely, he wasn't worried anymore either. He knew he should be, but I he was honest this was a place where he was far less likely to die in a dog fight or shoot out than he could remember being at in years.

He wanted to ask if he was a good dad, but it was too soon. Han promised he would be now.

She nodded a bit. She doubted everyone would show up at once. That wasn't how it really worked around here. She probably wouldn't see Luke, or her mom, or even Chewie any time soon. But having her Dad was enough. Even that awkward grin was more comforting than it had any right to be.

She smiled, not wanting to argue with him. "Well, if they do, I have plenty of room." Jaina's place was huge. She didn't use most of it, and it probably needed to be cleaned up before too many people moved in. "You might have your own place already.." she said, a little uncertain. "But.. I'd kind of like you to stay for a few days, at least?"

She didn't know how to tell him everything; that Chewie had been here for a while, but as a human instead of a wookiee. That her mom and Luke had been around for a short time, but ages ago. That she had a twin brother who wasn't here anymore and a younger brother that was. But that could wait.

"Hey, I'd rather stay and, you know, get to know my daughter than figure out what the hell an accountant is," Han said with a grin. He still had no clue why someone would walk around with cards with their own name and job on them, but this was a weird world anyway.

"I've got to warn you though," he continued, sobering a little, "I doubt I'm going to be good at this right off, kid. Leia and I haven't even..." he trailed off, hoping she would pick up mentally what he was going for. Explaining to his daughter that he hadn't slept with her mother yet was just too strange on top of everything else.

"I don't know how great of a dad I'll be, is all I'm saying."

Jaina smiled, looking up at him with a bit more confidence. "Accountants are boring. Trust me, you'd hate it." The thought of her Dad sitting behind a desk all day and doing anything was pretty amusing. And probably a recipe for disaster.

She nodded quickly to her dad to signal she understood what he meant. She really didn't need him to explain how babies were made. "You're a really good dad," she assured him. "And I'm twenty-two, so it's not like you have to worry too much about messing up." Not that she thought that would keep him from worrying. Jaina knew what it was like to be a parent now, so she knew telling him not to worry about his daughter was useless.

"But I won't expect everything to be normal right away. I know there's an adjustment period, and I won't take it personally if things don't fall into place."

"Yeah, I figured as much." Han flashed her a grin, obviously relieved to hear the 'good dad' bit. "And it's going to be fine, you'll see."

He wasn't saying it entirely out of blind faith that everything would be. Han was surprisingly comfortable around her already, and while there was no question that there'd be a lot to get used to, he was a lot calmer than he had been when the Falcon had landed.

"Just hope Leia... er, your mother shows up soon." As nice as it was to find out that he had children, it was incredible that they were with her.
