WHO: Ezio and Princess
WHAT: Catching up
WHERE: the National Gallery, London
WARNINGS: Nope

Ezio wanted to revisit old haunts in London. It didn't take him long to rediscover the National Gallery, and its back rooms full of Italian art. The museum no longer had any da Vincis, but he curled up next to one of his favorite alternatives. The Supper at Emmaus was his favorite Caravaggio; it made him think of better days at home.

Princess was wandering around the Gallery as well. Sadly, she realized that they no longer had any of her father's work, but she had found out they had a Caravaggio and strode over to view it.

Smiling when she saw a familiar yet somehow different man near the work, she reached out to tap him on the shoulder. "Ciao, vecchio amico."

Ezio perked up; only one person in this day and age had that familiar crusty dialect. "La mia Principessa." He rose, pulling her into a hug that was perhaps a little too tight, but she could take it. "Oh, it is so good to see you." Any link from home was good, but she was living, breathing. She looked so serious, though. "Is all well? Or, well as can be expected?"

Her face brightened when he turned and acknowledged her. She squeaked a tiny bit when he hugged her so tightly, but she was obviously not upset by it since she didn't let go. "All is as well as it can be. I'm glad you're here, I missed you."

"I missed you. It was such a surprise to see you a few days past." He didn't like to admit it, but he'd simply forgotten the little puzzle box; he had not been in Firenze when she had been made. Still, he thought of her as a ward, even if he didn't need to. "Have you simply reassumed your previous life?" He motioned to the bench next to him, scooting over to make room.

She closed her eyes, nuzzling a little into him. "I have, yes." When he moved to sit down, Princess followed suit, smoothing her skirts out once she was settled. "I have taken my room at Dean and Bela's again, and I'm helping out with the little ones as ever. And the older ones. Danielle needs to find her own home."

Ezio wrapped an arm around her, but it was clearly a platonic one. She was a little sister to him as well. "I'm glad you have your room back, and friends," he said in their shared dialect. "Do you enjoy being around little ones? I would imagine after years of pokes in the eyes, they would be your worst terror."

Leaning against him, she smiled. She enjoyed speaking with him in her native tongue - no, she just enjoyed speaking it. "Oh, my boxself stays quite clear of tiny Robert. Tiny Danielle and Annorah are still gestating." Her red eyes were closed, and she couldn't help but smile. "I like being a part of a family."

"Ah." Ezio had to chuckle. It was rather sweet, how pleased she seemed. "I can understand that. I know you miss your papa." Honestly, he missed his friend as well. He'd grown so used to having Leonardo's ear. The least he could do was keep a watchful eye over his friend's all-but-daughter.

"It's ... after Papa passed, I shut down. I didn't want to see anyone else, and I didn't want anyone to know I could think or feel or communicate. So I just didn't. But then I got used to the Captain and Bill being around, and they didn't die. So I guess I got used to the notion of some people never leaving." Ezio might have taken that to mean her papa, but she couldn't help but think of Ariel.

Ezio nodded. "Finding someone as immortal as you must have been confusing," he said, hoping he was being gentle and not ham-fisted. "To know there are some who cannot die, those who will never go unless they choose to. The idea confuses me. I cannot imagine what it did to you." Leonardo could teach her many things, but some had to be experienced.

Sitting up a bit more straight, Princess smiled. "I'll take care of the people I care about as best I can, and then I'll do it all over again. It's not something I worried about when I wanted a body. People leaving." Shaking her head, she smiled at him. "Have you settled into your life as well, il Mentore?"

"Well enough." Ezio smiled, inclining his head to acknowledge the respect she paid him. He'd told her it was unnecessary, but if she persisted, the least he could do was be courteous. "I have rooms in this city. A job at l'Ambasciada in Hyde Park. Signora Petit has seen fit to allow me to be associated with her guild. I have made the acquaintance of Signorina Danielle, and had some amusing evenings." He could be honest with her. "It has been nice to meet Dani. It helps me to forget that Ronia is not here."

"I am glad you have work. Though do not find Danielle too much of a distraction if you do not want her to be one - she has - how did she say it? A fierce and savage crush on you." Princess smiled before standing up to walk and look at the next painting. "I am sorry Ronia is not here. I wonder if she and Ariel are in the same world."

He remembered Ariel belatedly. Had the man actually ... yes, he had. Ezio's face creased into sympathy. "I have no idea. I am sorry, Principessa." He didn't process Princess' statement about Dani right away, but when he did, he might actually have blushed. "She is ... really?"

"It is hardly your fault." She smiled and took his hand, walking with him to the next painting. But when she saw his blush, she couldn't help but bite her lip. "Danielle is going to put Jell-o in my bed if she finds out I told you."

"I have no idea what Jell-o is, but she will not find out from me." Ezio just sort of smiled, looking down. "I enjoy her company, and we have ... ladies are much more forward nowadays than most were at home." He felt an odd mixture of pride and embarrassment; surely Princess got the gist. "I have no wish to insult her, but it has not been long. Right now it's hard to say my opinion on the lady, other than 'engaging' and 'quite beautiful'."

"It is like panna cotta that isn't as good. Or creamy." She couldn't help but laugh. "You're blushing. Don't worry, she is not smitten, she's simply ... enjoying you. Very much."

Ezio thought about that for a moment and wrinkled his nose. "What a terrible panna cotta that would be." As for Dani, he shook his head. "I can better understand enjoying someone's company. If that is all a 'crush' is, I would say the feeling is mutual." It had not been the same as what Princess had with her gentleman, but he could tell that; there was no need to bring up pain.

"That is all a crush is. It's an infatuation." It wasn't that Princess was psychic, but she was pretty good at reading people. She'd had a long time to study people's faces and body language. "Do not worry so about me. I'm fine, and I think you two are cute. She's ... a handful."

"That is one way to put it." He chuckled. "I have never met one so ... vibrant. But it is somewhat of my job to worry about you." Ezio ruffled her hair a little. "Leonardo did immeasurable kindnesses to my family. The least I can do is to protect his dearest legacy. If I may do so without interfering overtly." He smiled, looking down at her.

That did make Ezio laugh, and a few patrons shot him dirty looks for the loud sound. He coughed, trying to tone it back down, but he was still amused. "Dare I ask what exactly he told you? I never took anyone's virtue without their consent!"

"Oh, just that you could charm the wings off of a mosquito - and simply for the asking! Though you are very handsome, I would hardly blame the mosquito." She squeezed his hand and couldn't help covering up her own contented laugh. "You like the company of ladies, and they like yours in turn. It is nothing to be ashamed of."

He'd been relieved; Leonardo was not exactly a purist of the church, but one never knew. "I always looked for a woman who could keep up with me, even before I became an Assassin. I found two, during my life, but one was too independent, and one was simply not for me." That was that. Rosa had never wanted to marry, and Caterina had a city-state to run. "Dani seems to be able to keep up with me - in fact, outstrip me at times!"

Princess blurted out what she was thinking before she had time to stop herself. "I'll bet she does." Eeping faintly, she clapped a hand over her mouth. Living with pirates had made her fluent in Sexual Inneundo.

He had to react quickly not to let the belly laugh get out into the quiet gallery. "I did say ladies here are forward." And yet, Dani was able to do that and be that without looking like a whore. "I appreciate a challenge of any kind, as I do hope Leonardo told you. If I didn't, I would not have tried out his mad flying machine." He smiled - that had certainly been one to remember.

"He was so glad that was you." She smiled lopsidedly. "He trusted you with it. He assumed you would not crash it." Her father had always thought the best of Ezio, but she suspected that at least part of that had been his being a sucker for a muscular man.

"Were you with him that night?" The puzzle box was certainly small enough to fit into a long coat pocket, as had been the fashion at the time. "I almost hope you were. It was ... mad. But fun. And useful."

"I have no doubt of that, somehow." Ezio smiled, sitting with her. "But my mother still would have tanned my hide!" He looked up at the painting, a pastoral scene that reminded him of Leonardo's work. "I do wonder about how she is doing. Claudia can take care of herself, but Mama." He sighed.

"I have every certainty that any woman who raised you can take care of herself as well. And if your sister is near her, I doubt that your mother is alone." She liked how sweet he was; most people would have thought him dull or unsentimental due to his appearance.

"One only hopes." Ezio sat back a minute, looking at the painting. It was lovely and peaceful, and somehow fit the mood. "Have you spoken to your pirates since coming back here?"

"I have. They're doing well." She liked Bill and Jack's permanence, the fact that they had never changed. It was comforting for her. She didn't know if her body would age, but assumed that she would not. So having someone that wouldn't age with her was helpful as well.

"I'm glad." Ezio smiled. It was good for her to have people to relate to. He sat back, looking over at her. "What about the people at Guildhall? Had you met any of them? Signora Petit and her ilk are quite fond of your pirates."

"I have heard of Petit, but I am not close to her." She folded a leg under her torso. "Perhaps I should visit them. More family is always a good thing." Having Ezio around made her happy. She felt very much like he was her brother.
