The talk with her mom hadn't exactly been pleasant. Riley hadn't been trying at school, and the headmaster had called a meeting with her parents. Candy somehow knew how to pull information out of Riley, even when she didn't want to speak. Riley had almost agreed to start doing her homework just so she could stop talking about stuff. Riley was sure she was going to be grounded, so she was surprised when Candy actually told her to go out with Jack and spend time with him. She appeased her dad by doing her homework before she left.

The beach had sounded like an awesome idea, after how hot it had been recently. But maybe fall was coming a little sooner than she'd thought. There was a nice, cool breeze that felt great when she was on dry land, but made her a little hesitant to get in the water. She was wearing shorts and a blue bikini top. She looked around the beach for Jack.

	Jack was already in the water, and he surfaced a few moments later, shivering. "It's colder than it looks," he smiled, waving at Riley. He was paler on his chest than his arms, due to wearing t-shirts most of the year, and his black swim trunks rode low on his hips as was the trend. He was deceptively muscular. Riley covered her mouth, giggling, but she still managed to look sympathetic. "It looks pretty cold," she said, not doubting him. She didn't think she'd be getting in the water today. She was polite and kept her eyes above his waist. "Maybe we just should've gone riding." Of course, horseback riding was generally done fully-clothed. She would've missed out on shirtless Jack, and that would have been a sad thing.

	"True," she said, smiling. The beach was pretty quiet. She sat down next to him. "Might be nice to bring Beauty out here sometime," she said, mentioning her horse that was obviously named by a much younger version of herself. Riley rolled in to face him. "You shouldn't worry," she said, squeezing his hand back and smiling at him. "It's something I'd like to talk about, maybe, but not like this." Not in the creepy 'I'm reading your mind' sort of way. She liked Jack a lot, but that was a little hard to get used to. Besides, the stuff she talked to her mom about and the stuff she wanted to talk to Jack about weren't exactly the same, and it would possibly be the worst segue ever. "Just.. forget about it for now, okay?"

That was actually not bad timing. She really wasn't expecting it--despite already having give him permission--and that just made it more exciting. She was stressing out, but the kiss made all that melt away. It was relaxing and exciting and amazing, all at once.

She kissed him back, her eyes closing. It was her first, too, not counting slobbery quarterbacks, and it was so nice.

	Jack was very gentlemanly; he didn't use tongue, and he didn't slobber at all. One of his hands had moved to her cheek, but that was it; he didn't touch her anywhere inappropriately. He was going to call the kiss a win, so long as her father didn't end up kicking him in the neck straight afterward. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	It was kind of neat how one really amazing kiss could totally erase an awful one. She'd sort of been carrying that bad experience around for a year, and it made up her entire idea of Kissing until now. Now, kissing was really nice. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	She grinned at him, staying close. "Yeah?" That was a relief to hear. She figured most guys who went off to college would end up wanting more than just kissing. She smiled a little. It was probably most awkward when his creepy, weird subject change weren't really that weird. If she wasn't friends with Emily Lightman, she might have assumed Jack had superpowers, sometimes.

"It's not weird being in college and dating a high school girl?" she asked, a little insecurity showing. She normally hid that pretty well, but lately it seemed like everyone was noticing. "I don't seem like a stupid little kid?" He was probably around hot sorority girls all day, and then going back to his high school sophomore girlfriend had to be awkward.

Blinking, he sat back to look at her. "Riley. You're not stupid, nor are you a little kid. I think you're technically older than I am." Smiling to himself, he stroked her hair, pulling her close so he could hold her. "Riley, they think I'm a stupid little kid, albeit one who knows the answers and participates in class. So I'm the stupid little annoying kid. I don't have many friends yet, because they're all eighteen and nineteen and self-absorbed. Honestly, they're kind of annoying." Pressing a light kiss to her neck, he wondered how she'd react to the contact.

"Really?" She liked that he held her close while they talked. It was closer than she'd ever been to him. His skin was still cool and a little wet, but she didn't mind. She kind of wished he smelled a little more like Jack and a little less like saltwater, but it was still nice.

"I guess it's kind of hard to adjust to," she said, but she was interrupted by him kissing her neck. She giggled a little, probably a byproduct of being nervous.

Riley shifted, resting her cheek on his shoulder. "I just wish Dumbledore could have found a way to give you more advanced courses there, or something. There are magic students there that have to be in their twenties, they get all kinds of advanced classes." Riley pouted. It didn't seem fair. Of course, it's not as if there were any other magic schools in this place, so perhaps that was more out of necessity. Still, it sucked.
