Who: Lorna and Erik
What: Bonding, possibly of the father-daughter variety
Where: A nice cafe
Rating: Probably nothing severe.

She had asked to be seated outside, since it was such a beautiful day. Beside which, there was no point in going to an exotic city and spending the whole time hunched into a booth. She'd picked this place because it was far from her house, and somewhere she'd always wanted to visit. She'd even arranged ahead of time to meet Alex at the House on the Rock afterward, because if things went bad she'd need it, and if they didn't. . .it was the House on the Rock, and therefore awesome.

But at the moment she was nervous about meeting Erik, and her leg bounced slightly under the table.

Erik walked quickly toward the resturant Lorna had picked. He was running just a small bit behind because a student had wanted to talk to him after class.

He saw her already sitting outside as he approached. He was more than a little nervous, but so far she didn't seem to hate him, and he wouldn't give her reason to if he could help it.

He smiled at her and waved when he was close enough, walking up to the table.

"Hello, Lorna. I'm sorry I'm late."

She smiled softly at him, waving back. "No problem. I was early, anyway. Have a seat, I told the waitress not to come until you got here."

He wasn't like the man who was a threat to the world in her time. She hoped he wouldn't turn out to be nothing more than a less ambitious version of his alternate self. Her conversation with Pietro had given her enough dislike of the 'next phase in evolution' theory for a year.

Erik sat down. "This is a nice place, I don't think I've been here before."

"Me either. But it got a good review in the local newspaper, so I thought I'd give it a try."

She smiled as the waitress came over. "How are you adjusting?"

"Hm, well it's been getting a bit exciting recently, but I think I'm adjusting well. I've been here as long as anyone, but it's still always an adventure. How are you doing here? I know it's been hard for you, seeing as you didn't even know you were a mutant when you first came here."

"I'm okay, really. It's a little crazy, but a lot less boring. And the people here are much friendlier."

The waitress finally arrived and took their orders, giving Lorna time to think. "The whole gender switching things was a bit of a pain in the arse, but other than that, most of the changes have been good."

"That one was interesting. I, personally, enjoyed the time when I started acting like a five year old and Ed, a girl I take care of, was having to babysit me. That was some time before you were here, actually."

"Edward? The one that likes sparkles, among other things?" She chuckled a little. "She's cute. I'll bet that was pretty amusing."

Edward taking care of anything was an amusing picture.

"Yes, Edward, with the sparkles. She is adorable. She mostly takes care of herself by now."

"She seems like a nice girl. We haven't actually talked, but her posts are always amusing."

She smiles brightly, glad to know that Erik isn't alone. "When are you from? I mean, what date was it back home when you were taken?"

She's been dying to know.

"It was 1950. I had just met Charles for the first time. It seems like such a long time ago." His smile was a little sad, reminiscent, really.

"Wow. You mean Charles Xavier, right?"

Magneto used to hang out with someone who preaches mutant-human cooperation?

"Yes, Xavier. He and I were good friends before we became enemies. Even after we were enemies we were still friends. Probably one of the best friends I've ever had."

Lorna's fascinated. "I read in the comic books, but all the crazy stuff in there can't be for real."

Because, seriously, some of it's just extreme. "I haven't gotten too far in yet, though."

Erik smiled, "You probably wouldn't believe how much of it is real. I haven't really read the comics, but, well the reality was crazy enough that I don't think they could exaggerate too much."

"Wow. I'm kinda glad I miss it, really." She laughs and shakes her head. "Not that this place is any saner, I guess. Kind of afraid to get the part where I actually show up."

"Oh yes, I never really get a chance to miss it because the insanity of this place reminds me so much of home," he said laughing. "That's one of the reasons I never read the comics. I really didn't want to see what happened to me. I know what happened. I remember some of it and others explained parts, but I don't want to read it."

"I can understand that." She touches his hand softly. "Beside, I'm sure that I get my own share of brain breaking insanity."

Ah, if only she knew.

Erik smiled at her. He was actually very happy. Three out of four of his children didn't hate him, and as much as it still bothered him that Pietro hated him, he was happy that at least Lorna didn't. "We all did. I can't think of one hero who didn't go evil at one point or one villain that wasn't heroic at one point, or in their own corrupt version of heroisms."

"I guess sometimes, when something's so close to home, it's hard to always know what's right. I can see why people would switch sides, since it seems like there's still tension between humans and mutants in the future."

She smiles. It's weird thinking of him as her father. But he's not a bad man. He might never replace her adopted father, but she didn't find the concept that she was his daughter horrifying. Pietro, she decided, was a git.

(I have icon fail. Ignore that icon entirely.)

"Lines get blurred and it's hard to say who's on what side, or if there even are sides. It's easy to forget what you're fighting for."

"Yeah. Dr. McCoy says that I join the X-men in his world, but if they start it up here, I don't think I will. I don't think I could fight for any side unless I was sure that they were doing what was right."

"I don't think they'd allow me to join," he chuckled a bit, "No, I don't think I'd want to join either, especially without Charles there. Charles gave them focus, though there were times he lost his way, I don't know what the X-Men would be without him.

"It's still kind of hard to believe he's a mutant, actually. I guess it makes sense, since he would be a big target if the government knew what he was actually doing, but still. . .he's more like someone's grandfather than the heart of a team of superheroes."

Which, at the moment, only includes Jean, Scott, Bobby, Warren, and Hank.

"I didn't even know he was a mutant until just before I came here. It was very important to hide what you were back then. Though, that's no different from now, I suppose. People will hate what is different and strange."

"I dunno." Lorna says, after a minute. "I haven't been given any grief about my hair. I mean, yeah, maybe a little from old people who think I've dyed it, but other than that, nobody much seems to care as long as I mind my own business."
