WHO: Ezio & Dani
WHAT: First date!
WHERE: Chez Winchester to start
WARNINGS: Possible!

Ezio showed up at the time they'd agreed on, knocking at the door of the large house. He hadn't known she lived in quite such a large house, and resolved to be on his best behavior. Old habits died hard; his family had been well off, but money talked. He wished somehow that he'd brought flowers, even though he'd thought it silly and old fashioned at the time.

Dani tried to race down the stairs to open the door before her sister. "Just my date, nothing to see here, love you all, bye!" She'd tried to settle on something pretty and feminine yet still a little bit sexy, just a white dress that she'd thrifted and a pair of cowboy boots.

When she got to the door, she smiled and opened it up. "Hi."

Ezio smiled, sticking his hands in his pockets when he saw her. "Hello, signorina. You look very nice." Very feminine. He'd worn a suit jacket, but no tie. "I hope I am not early."

"Oh, it's fine, it doesn't matter!" She grabbed her purse, praying inwardly that her father or sister wouldn't come and interrogate her date. "I'm glad to see you, you look ... fantastic, actually."

Ezio smiled. "Thank you." He offered his arm. "I had thought to take you for some of the food I am used to." What they called Italian, but was mostly Florentine.

Dani bit her lip as she took his arm, grinning to herself. "I'd like that a lot. My sister will be jealous - she's a chef - so I'll have to make sure to jot down what I eat so I can tell her all about it." She liked that he was just a little taller than her, but he was so broad, she felt sheltered somehow. It was rare that she felt safer around someone than by herself, but with Ezio, she believed it.

"That must be nice; she must like to cook for you." Ezio chuckled. "I have found a little place near one of these port-keys. It shall not be a long trip." It had been a pleasant surprise to find the tiny bistro. He'd been even more surprised to find that it had simple food, like he was used to.

"She does, she loves it really, but she grumbles and pretends she hates it." She took his hand into hers, twining their fingers again and squeezing. "I'm glad you asked me out, you know. I think I scare most guys."

"Why?" Ezio raised an eyebrow. Why would she frighten anyone? She seemed very no-nonsense, but many women came off like that.

That made her laugh, closing her eyes and trying not to make too big of a deal of what she was about to say. "My job, for one, and my hobbies for another." She kind of felt like an idiot for bringing it up on a first date. Oh, hi, I poke dead bodies and on my off days hunt ghosts, no big.

"You told me your job." Ezio laughed, getting to the portkey. "I think perhaps it does not matter to me because I am so used to death." It didn't sit well with him per se, but he was used to it. He was an Assassin. He could never change that.

She just sort of blurted it out. "I hunt ghosts and demons and things on my days off." Immediately she dropped his hand and covered her face with her own. "God, it never sounds less mad when I say it out loud."

He wasn't wholly surprised. He knew there were horrible things in this world. And yet, to hear it from her was confusing. "Why would you do that?" Ezio turned her down an alley toward the portkey.

"Someone has to. And my family's done it for generations." It was all she could do to keep herself from chewing on her lip in nervousness, and instead she took his hand again. "See? Scaring you already."

Ezio touched the portkey, taking them to Firenze, continuing the conversation once he'd recovered his breath. "I suppose that is so, that someone must, but I was not aware that families actually did that as their profession. Mine tended to stick to banking, at least until the turning of the tides." Until his father and brothers had been murdered. "It does not scare me; it interests me."

It took her another moment to catch her breath after they portkeyed, first from the portkey itself, and secondly from the scenery. "Oh, wow, it's ... beautiful doesn't even begin to cover it." She smiled and continued to walk with him. "My family didn't really enter into it on purpose. My grandmother was murdered by a demon, and my grandfather kind of made it his life's work. It's not something that anyone makes money at, but because my father and uncle were taken with Grandfather, they kind of had to fall into it."

Ezio smiled when she liked the scenery, but grew somber when she told him about her family. "I am honestly sorry to hear such a thing. It reminds me of my father. Reminds me of me." He laughed a little. "I became an Assassin after my father's murder. The care of the Order fell to me. I do not regret it, but it was not something I particularly chose."

"As long as you don't regret it. I like keeping people safe, I like that I help kill ghosts. Hell, I help catch murderers at work, the sickos who do it for pleasure." There was a huge difference to her between a murderer and an assassin. "I like that my family's built a bit tougher than most. I think as long as you and I don't regret things, than it's okay, right?"

"I do not regret it. I have helped countless people, and I have saved more." Ezio smiled, pointing her down a cul-de-sac. "It has been a difficult life, but a rewarding one. They call me il Mentore, which is a very honored title. This is the place," he added, holding the door of the tiny restaurant open for her.

"Saving people is important." She was glad that she knew Latin, it meant that she could sort of squeak by with guessing at Italian. "Teacher? Mentor?" Grinning at him, she walked into the restaurant, shivering a little at the air conditioning.

"Teacher. The head of the Order." Ezio smiled, greeting the waitress in Italian and following her toward a small and intimate table. He held out Dani's chair for her, then went around to sit across from her. "Will you object if I order for us? The primi and secondi tend to go together at places like this." Also, he wanted her to experience what he was used to eating.

"Please, I'm used to Annie ordering for me." She sat down, glad that he wasn't able to see that she was a little pink from him pulling out her chair. "Is this what you usually eat?"

"This is Firenze, and the food is Florentine. I am used to this." Ezio smiled. "If you are reasonably adventurous, you should be just fine, but please do not hesitate, if there is something you detest." He raised a hand, calling the waitress over and ordering wine to begin with.

"Nope, nothing I hate." Her head was resting on her hand, unable to stop watching him. "It saves you from having to translate for me as well." She waited until the waitress was gone to resume speaking. "It must be hard, this being your home, but not really."

"It is." Ezio was not too proud to admit it. "I mean, things today are much calmer in my country than they were in my time. But at the same time, I knew how to conduct myself in the rough and tumble. I am out of my depth in social niceties. Also, the language is not entirely the same." He did chuckle at that. "The serving girl looked at me strangely when I spoke."

"You can always say that you've been in England too long with me." She took his hand and leaned over to kiss his knuckles lightly. "You're not out of your depth, you're doing just fine, if I'm able to say so."
