Who: Henry and the Stepford Cuckoos

There were few things the Cuckoos enjoyed more than messing with people's minds. One of those things was the beach. The four girls wore matching silver bikinis that had men all over the beach staring. Fortunately, most of them were too intimidated to make a move.

The girls had casually mentioned to Henry where they would be. He was interesting enough, but not the sort of person they would actually invite to anything remotely date-like.

The Cuckoos were spread out on the sand, soaking up some sun. A nearby man who had been contemplating saying Hello suddenly found himself compelled to go buy four daiquiris.

	Henry was there, arriving shortly after the daiquiris did, even with oversized movie-star sunglasses, he was still squinting against the sun. "Afternoon, ladies." He greeted as he settled nearby, leaning back on his hands. (Reply to this) (Thread)

The girls turned to acknowledge him as he sat down, which was more than they'd done for most people. Even the man who'd brought the drinks was dismissed with a handwave. Two of the girls looked away after a moment, one of them going back to her drink while the other laid back down.

"You do realize this is a beach, right?" one of the girls asked dryly, looking at his very non-beachwear clothing. The other girl just watched him, curious.

"I'd figured that out." He said with a nod, "Sand, big blue wet thing, people running around with less clothing coverage than most people's underwear. Yep, that's the beach."

Henry, for his part, was wearing well-worn jeans and a mesh shirt, it was as close to 'beachwear' as he got, "I've got a medical condition." He added, "They call it 'Fishbelly'. I don't just reflect sunlight, I amplify it, and I wouldn't want to blind anyone by accident."

The girls smirked a bit at the comment about clothing. He could have complimented theirs, but they would let it slide, for now. The two of them that were paying attention grinned when he mentioned the condition, amused. "Don't they have a cream for that?" one asked.

One of the girls rolled onto her side to face him, propping herself up on an elbow. She seemed fascinated by his hair.

That got an actual grin from him, and anyone who knew him knew that smiles like that were a rarity coming from Henry, "Yeah, it's called 'jillion-proof sunblock'. And I'm wearing some, under the shirt. Just in case."

He shrugged, "This would turn a whole lot less fun if I randomly burst into flames. His hair was a little less unkempt than it had been in the park, but only because it was also apparently trying not to melt in the sun.

The Cuckoos didn't know whether to take him at his word or assume he was one of those gothed-out vampire wannabe kids. Mutants complicated things. And the fact that they couldn't get a good read on him only added to the confusion. "Do you vant to suck our blood?" one of them asked, arching a manicured eyebrow.

It was a little frustrating not being able to read his thoughts. And the lack of overt verbal or nonverbal communication regarding their attractiveness was disconcerting, too. But he'd ventured out into the sun's harsh rays to see them, apparently.

"We could go inside," the one that was on her side looking at him suggested. One of the girls that had been ignoring them turned her head sharply. "This isn't a date, though."

	His nose wrinkled at the first question, but there was amusement in his tone, "No, but thanks though. I actually kind of faint if there's blood. Embarrassing, but true. Even worse if it's mine." "Is there anything about you that isn't embarrassing?" one of them asked. Not that they'd been serious about the offer, or had any stake in whether or not he liked blood. They were just hoping for some kind of insight into his behavior, and once again they'd run into a wall.

Even declining Mindee's offer just served to confuse and frustrate them more. As a test, the girls tried to take telepathic control of his mind to force him to take off his sunglasses.

"Oh there's a few things." He said, "But we don't talk about those in polite company." Trying to get ahold of his mind was an excersise in frustration, really, because aside from the white noise that covered anything under surface thoughts, it was slippery, sort of the way his hair had slid away from Mindee's finger when she'd gone to diamond the last time they'd met.

He would have mentioned it, if he were aware of it, but as it was he had the psychic ability of a tree stump.

That was even worse than when they tried to read him before. The four of them combined were stronger than the average telepath, which only made it worse. They winced slightly, pulling out. They had thought about trying an illusion on him, but after that, they didn't want to continue. "We're going," one of them announced abruptly, standing up.

"We don't all have to go.." It wasn't quite a protest. The standing girl shrugged and the other two stood, leaving the other girl still laying on the beach.

	"Oh, well that makes sense." He nodded, he hadn't been sure if it was a proximity thing or not. His brow furrowed at the statement, "You mean because of the..." 	He was a quiet guy, it was good to hear him giving some kind of opinion, since they couldn't get anything else out of him. It was a little like pulling teeth, but it was something. "It's hard to turn down crab," she said with a smile. Ice cream didn't sound terrible either, but it wasn't nearly as classy as crab legs. The girls had an image to maintain.

She was a little surprised he hadn't asked which one she was. Most people did. It didn't matter much to the girls, but it seemed to matter to other people who liked to think of them separately.

	All he knew was that she was the one who'd been fascinated with his hair in the park. They all had a slightly different emotional resonance, and while he might not have known exactly which was which, he could tell them apart at any rate. He nodded, "Well then let's go. "Fresh seafood sounds lovely." She started in the direction he'd indicated, glancing back to see if he was coming. It was strange to walk alone. It didn't happen often.

"You don't happen to have anything for a headache in one of those pockets, do you?" She was shockingly short on storage space in her bikini. The earlier attempt at getting in Henry's head had given the Cuckoos a headache.

	She tilted her head a bit. Pressure points didn't sound quite as nice as 'neck rub', but she supposed it could be worse. "If you think it would help." The Cuckoos knew all sorts of mental 'pressure points'--ways to shut people down--but physical ones weren't something they'd paid much attention to. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)
