Who: Erik & Charles
Where: NYC
When: Right about now, just after this
Warnings: Doubtfully anything, but will update if necessary.

Erik was a little surprised to find how much more at ease he was knowing that not only was Charles alright, he had also been caught by whatever it was that had brought him here. It amused him in turn, mostly because he hadn't quite realized just how out of sorts the trip had left him, and the few days since his arrival hadn't done much to assuage that.

The City was much the same as it had been, some of the buildings were taller, and everything seemed to have metal in it these days, which was something of a comfort to him. In any case it didn't take him long to find the address Charles had given him, pulling up in a car that suited him, sleek and dark and modern.

Charles had been left a modest but very neat home. It was small, but not too small for a bachelor, and the furniture was nice. The bookshelves that lined almost every wall in the house had everything from the great classics, to cookbooks, to modern smut. It didn't seem like there was a genre missing. He looked out the door, knowing Erik wasn't quite due yet, but getting impatient anyway. When he saw the car drive up he couldn't help but smile. This place was strange and a little scary but Erik seemed to be Erik.

He went to open the door before Erik was out of the car. "Hello, friend."

The reply was something that was almost a smile. Real smiles had been rare enough the past week or so, but somehow Charles always managed to get one from him.

"Charles." He greeted, heading up the walk, "It's good to see you."

"It's good to see you as well. This place is...very strange." He moved out of the way of the door, "Come in, it won't be as nice as your place, but it's clean."

He slipped past the other man, taking a quick survey of the room beyond, old habit, learning the exits, "At least yours looks lived in," He replied, "Mine might as well be a model."

Charles watched him, and smiled a bit in relief at his opinion. "Lived in is a good descriptor. I'm sure you will make you own place look lived in soon enough."

He nodded at that, having to think it over for a moment, "I suppose I will." Though really given his largely transient lifestyle before having met Charles, he wasn't entirely sure on that one, and he said as much: "It's probably going to take some doing, I'm not entirely used to staying in one place very long."

Charles laughed a little, "That is true enough." Staying in one place never was Erik's thing.

"How are you finding things so far?" He asked, settling himself easily in a chair. There was still a ready, half-wary tension to him, one of those things that ebbed sometimes, but never truly went away.

"I don't know. It seems to be very different and yet very much the same. The technology is very strange, but luckily the person I replaced was not so much into technology as he was into books. I have been to libraries that have a smaller selection." He looked around at all the books.

"I'd noticed that." He said, eying the shelves himself, "Doesn't seem to be anything missing either, it's quite a collection from what I can see."

And that twitch that was almost but not quite a smile again, "And I agree, the ... computers look like something Hank would design if he got ahold of Zuse's blueprints."

"It's almost... too inclusive," Charles said, grinning.

"Hank would probably fit in a bit better than I would, that's for sure."

"That is, of course, provided his brain didn't explode just from sheer excitement."

His brow quirked once more at that grin, settling himself just a little more comfortably, some of that ready tension leeching away, "Oh? And what is it you've found?"

Charles laughed a little, "Oh, just horrible dime store smut."

And that did get an actual grin, "I see. I suppose you would have to have some of it for a fully-rounded library."

Charles couldn't help his own smile when he saw Erik actually grin. "Apparently."

"Though I'll admit to being surprised that you could find anything, there's not much of an organizational system, is there?" He'd been trying to make sense of the nearest shelf and couldn't quite do it, it was fairly eclectic.

"It has actually been driving crazy. I think the first order of business is to organize all these books," he grinned at Erik, "I don't know if I'm up to the challenge, though."

"Well, Charles, that's why you hire someone to help." A shrug, "Or bribe them, either way it shouldn't take much doing."

"As a matter of fact it is." He replied, the smile just a little more solid, and a little more of that tension having drained away from his shoulders.
