WHO: Annie Winchester and Kim Jae-sun
WHAT: Their quasi-date
WHERE: Bond Street tube station to start
WARNINGS: Probably nothing.

Annie had been on her feet for literally eight hours straight, and she was fucking tired. Her hair was frizzed and her makeup was nonexistent at this point, and she was just thinking longingly of a chair and something appallingly alcoholic. She thudded down the stairs into the Bond Street station, each foot feeling leaden, all but zombie-walking down the hall.

She stopped, though, when she heard "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" wafting through the tunnel. Annie's hands flew over her mouth, and she mouthed oh, shit!, but she couldn't help much at this point. She couldn't very well run away, and she couldn't afford a cab. Hopefully he didn't run in terror when he saw her after a long, trying day; she hadn't looked like shit the last time they met.

Annie saw the blink and did her best not to giggle; she liked messing with people, as he was no doubt becoming aware. When the waiter left, she couldn't help but grin big time. "What did you order exactly? What's in haejangguk?" She wasn't familiar at all with Korean food, though she'd done a lot of work in the Chinese discipline. "I sound completely native, don't I?" It was kind of exhilarating.

"I doubt they teach courses on Korean food at your school. Well, maybe kimchee, but I doubt anything else, right? Haejangguk is different everywhere, but this place's has kongnamul, daikon, napa cabbage, scallions, coagulated ox blood, and tojang. It just makes me happy and reminds me of home." He was still smiling, unable to look away from her.

Annie shook her head. "I don't know what kongnamul or tojang is. But kimchee, daikon, yeah." She smiled. "Everyone's got their comfort dish. My father's is bacon-wrapped lamb ... mine is probably tortilla espanola. It's a kind of omelet with potatoes and onion, with paprika and bits of octopus. I cook a lot of Spanish tapas."

"Well, you can try mine when it gets here." He smiled and kissed her knuckles before leaning back. "Did you expect me to come? I told you I would."

"I'm a cook, I'll try anything." She smiled at him, still charmed by the casual gestures. The little flash of a grin. His lips on her knuckles. "And yeah, I figured you would come ... honestly, today was just so exhausting it kind of slipped my mind." Annie chuckled. If nothing else, she'd figured he'd play in the tube station again, and she'd find him there.

"What happened where you were so busy? You looked frustrated when you came by today." He worried about her, and idly reached out to massage the muscles of her palm, rubbing between her thumb and index finger.

"It wasn't even really busy, it was time consuming." Annie had to fight to keep a poker face when he started to lightly move her knuckles; the pressure point felt damn near heavenly. "I had my final exam in my Latin cuisine class, and it's thirty minutes of terror followed by seven hours of standing there with your hands behind your back watching the chef rip apart everyone else's dishes, hoping they get a worse bollocking than you did." Only two people out of fifteen had gotten less severe bollockings, so she counted it a victory.

"That sounds terrible!" He felt terrible for her, that they would do somethig like that, but he assumed it was because of the pressure they'd be under in the kitchen. "And I thought my tests to get my degree were hard!" He was accredited by the Korean Library Association, and when he wasn't busking, he was handled a lot of general things at a library near where he lived.

Annie shrugged. "It's not fun, but it isn't always like that, and it's good practice for when there are twenty people in your dining room hollering for food at the same time." She smiled. "And I mean, I wouldn't do it if I didn't find it fun." She lowered her voice, but the amusement was still there in her tone. "I've stared down beasties that wanted to eat my head; I can handle some self-important little German guy."

The waiter returned with their plates, Annie smiling and thanking him in what she had to assume sounded like native Korean. It made her want to giggle, but she kept it in.

He couldn't help just looking at her and chuckling. Every bit of her being was determined, unflappable, and he wanted to tie up the world and give it to her with a bow. She deserved it.

He held out his spoon so she could take a bit of his stew, knowing she'd wanted to try it.

She did, taking the spoon and a sip off the end. She blinked at all the different flavors that came to her at once. "Holy crap. That's almost like a blood pudding, but with vegetables, too." That was good. Hers was simpler, looking mostly like pork belly with onions and garlic. "God. I said I'd be jealous of the pork." It looked delicious and just ... simple. Perfect. She took a bite and almost whimpered.

She wasn't sure if that was good or bad, so she decided to laugh. "I'm a chef. This is going to be my living." Annie smiled, taking another bite of the amazing pork. "It has to be important, and you have to be able to tell good from bad. I mean, I can detect different flavors in food that I never used to be able to. You learn what to look for."

"That makes sense to me. All I really ever do is read and listen to music." He really liked the way he could make people happy just with singing, and he loved how he could get lost in worlds of books.

"What do you like to listen to?" Annie asked between bites. "I mean, clearly you're an Elton John fan, but other than that." She really loved to watch him play, honestly.

"I'm a bit of a soft heart for old singer songwriter music, really. I can't help it, always have been. But I'll listen to anything if I can learn from it, if that makes sense." He ate his stew carefully, not wanting to spill anything and make her think less of him.

Annie nodded. "It does make sense. It's why I'll eat anything once. You add it to your repertoire." She smiled at him. "You must know a lot of music, though. I mean, in theory can't you understand every language?"

He nodded. "I can. I'm lucky that way." He'd always known he was incredibly lucky, and he never took it for granted. He tried to keep using his talents to make sure it didn't atrophy or go away - or what he more rightly feared - lose control of it.

She liked that he knew; he had his feet unusually firmly on the ground, for a Nephilim. Annie just smiled.
The rest of the meal passed relatively quietly, taking the time to enjoy the food. Annie was trying to remember every bite of the pork, trying to think of how to recreate it. Maybe it was time to take some courses in Korean food. When she'd finished the dish, she just sat back in her chair, a faintly beatific smile on her face.

Jae-sun smiled at her as she looked ridiculously contented with her meal. He stood up so he could pay for their food. He'd asked her out; he was the one that should pay. When he finished, he returned to the table to take her hand. "Would you like to sightsee?"

"I think you'll like it. Do you want to get some clothes? I can pop you back to your place." He normally hated intruding in on thoughts, but he could figure out where she lived. The way his powers worked confused him sometimes. He couldn't read people's minds, but once their thoughts were already thought, he could manipulate them slightly. And one of those manipulations was making her think of where she lived, so he could teleport them there.

"Either that, or I do have a trust fund." Annie laughed. "Maybe just pop down to the shops. Whichever's easier, really."

"Oh, your home will be easy enough." He held her hand and for a moment made her think of her bedroom. Once that was done, he teleported them off to her room.

He smiled at the clutter, the little bit of mess. It was lived in and very her, which he liked immediately.

Annie didn't entirely like that - it was still her bedroom, and she hoped her parents were nowhere near - but the intentions were good. So she just smiled, heading for her closet to find something. She didn't actually have many date clothes, but she did her best to find something casual. ... Hopefully he didn't notice her casually kicking her vibrator under the bed.
