He cringed at her defeated tone. She was suppose to just keep bothering him to be happy. That's what she did. He turned away from the closet to face her. He looked upset and guilty, though since Justice that's how he always looked.
"Merrill, I'm sorry. She's your Hawke, not mine. I can't stay with her. I want to stay with everyone, I do. But to see her everyday... I might start believing she is my Hawke. I don't think I can handle that. I wish I could make you understand." He was terrified of falling for this Hawke the way he had his Hawke. He was terrified of falling in love again just to be heart broken. He had never allowed himself to really fall in love until Hawke.
