Who: Lilo Pelekai, Gabriel, and a teeeeny bit of Uzza and Sadako Yamamura.
What: Lilo's achieving immortality.
When: Thursday night.
Where: The beach by Lilo and Gabe's.
Warnings: Violence! Death! Resurrections!



The ritual wasn't really difficult to prepare. All she needed was a ceremonial dagger, a few herbs, and her altar. She just wasn't sure she was ready. Well, she was ready for immortality, just not what she had to do to acquire it. Erzulie Dantor had told her the last time she'd reached out to her that all Lilo need do to gain her immortal self was cast off her mortal self.

Die.

Lilo didn't really want to kill herself, but she refused to let anyone do it for her. It wasn't her place to ask that of anyone, it was too much. And that was why Lilo was naked at midnight, kneeling in front of her altar, daubing her forehead and pulse points with amber oil.

Gabriel had insisted on watching, albeit from a distance, if only so he could scream for Sadako if something went wrong. He was scared, and he wasn't too proud to admit it. But in a strange way, he was proud of her. To do this took courage, took patience and forethought beyond most humans and beyond many angels. He'd taken out his prayer shawl, but instead of wearing it, he was running the fabric through his fingers. Just watching.

From nearby, his brother in his female form stood, watching Gabriel. Granted, Uzza was interested in the ritual, but it didn't seem to be anything that he could help with. But Gabriel's well being was all Uzza was concerned with. Near his feet, Sadako watched Lilo's actions, admiring the way moonlight fell over the younger woman's tattooed back.

There was no more time to hesitate. Lilo murmured a quiet plea for Erzulie's aid, for her guiding hand, for her to hold to her word. Once she finished speaking, she closed her eyes and plunged the blade through her jugular, piercing her throat. Gurgling faintly, she closed her eyes and fell to the sand, hoping that Gabe wouldn't run over.

Gabriel didn't move, just fumbling for Uzza's hand. She would be fine, he knew, but the vision would be something that stayed with him. He almost started to pray - not to Father, but to her patroness, Erzulie, to beg her to keep her word. He stayed silent, trying to keep his mind blank, just hoping everything would work out.

Uzza reached out to squeeze his brother's hand, still a girl after a day or so because he was hoping that it would be more comforting to him somehow.

Standing, Sada murmured quietly. "She'll be dead in a moment, she's simply unconscious now. We must wait just a moment more."

The form didn't matter; Uzza's presence did. Gabriel felt himself shaking, but still didn't move. "I'm glad you're here," he murmured, to Uzza, to Sadako, no one in particular. His eyes were still averted, but he knew she had to do this. He just wanted it to be over sooner.

Wrapping his arms around his brother's waist, Uzza smiled sadly. "It will be fine soon." Sada nodded, looking down. "She has finally passed. It should be any moment now, she said that - "

A loud gasp interrupted Sadako's sentence, and Lilo coughed hard, curling into the fetal position as she tried to breathe again.

Gabe was shaking hard now, and when he heard Lilo coughing, he jumped visibly. The minute Sadako gave him the word, he would run to his wife, but he knew enough to wait for her okay. It was fucking agony, straining there like a greyhound about to race. "Lee ..."

Sadako nodded, smiling. The girl's heart had stopped for a full two minutes, the blood had almost entirely drained out of her body. But now her wound was miraculously closed, her blood was flowing again, her heart was beating stronger than ever.

Rolling to her side, Lilo breathed deeply, still naked, curling her knees close to her chest. "Gabe?"

Gabe was over like a shot, gathering her up in his arms, working not to hold her too tightly. "Hi, baby." He picked her up gently, not sure what to expect. Would the loa speak through her? Or was she simply a passenger? Then again, it didn't particularly matter at the moment.

"Hi." She wrapped her arms around him, nuzzling into his neck. "It's kind of cold, can I go put clothes on now?" She shivered a little bit, starting to move toward the inside of the house. Uzza turned around out of politeness, and Sada moved to open the door for them.

"I don't really feel any different. Did I ... did I finish?"

"Yeah." Gabe swallowed tears, trying to smile instead. "It went without a hitch, or so Miss Yamamura said." He put a hand behind her head as they headed inside, turning toward the stairs. She could get clothes, but damned if she was walking up or down the stairs. That was what he was for.

The tears were easy to see, and Lilo's own eyes welled up afterwards. "I'm sorry. I wish there'd been another way to do this, but there just wasn't." She bit her lip hard, looking down at her feet. "I'm so so sorry."

"Shh. It's fine. You're here." Gabe just kissed her forehead as they went up the stairs, ducking as they turned the corner. When they got into their room, he set her on the bed and went over to her closet to get her things to wear. "Miss Yamamura was there for insurance. It's fine." He'd been afraid, yeah, but there wasn't a reason to be scared anymore. Was there?

"Sada?" Gabriel picked some clothes for her, some things he knew were her favorites. "She's still downstairs." He handed her the clothes, watching her, still a little worried.

"I just don't know - I don't want to put us through all this for it to not have worked, and have you be upset later on if I do something thinking I can't die - " She wiped her eyes as she pulled on the clothes he pulled out for her, trying to muster up a smile. "I love you, you know."

She kissed him back, happy that she still could. "I was so fucking scared," she murmured, pulling her shirt all the way on and tugging on her yoga pants. "I don't feel any different. I thought I would."

Once Lilo was dressed, he picked her back up and started to carry her back down the stairs to the living room. "Maybe that's a good thing. I know that when Father tapped mortals they didn't really feel any different. Just ... lighter, somehow." He let a smile come through, teasing gently. "And don't try to walk. I worry. You married a Jew."

"I can walk, you know." She leaned her head on his shoulder, running her fingers through his hair. "You're prettier, you know, but that's about it. That's all that feels different."

But she didn't argue with his fussing over her. It was nice, and even though she said that she could walk, she wasn't entirely sure.

"I don't care." Gabe retorted amiably, covering her head as they turned a corner, coming back into the living room. Uzza was sitting in the armchair, but Sadako wasn't in the room. Gabriel set his wife down on the couch, turning toward his brother. "Is Miss Yamamura still here?"

Lilo wrapped herself up into a blanket, curling up with her knees to her chest. " It's okay, really, if she had to go somewhere, we can check tomorrow."

But Sada had just been in the kitchen making tea; she returned with cups and a teapot on a tray, setting them down on the coffee table. "Please, Gabriel, we're family. Call me Sada. I assume you are both wondering about if her immortality is permanent? I could try to kill her, but if something goes wrong, it would be a week until I could resurrect her." She just wanted them to know about the risk.

Sadako blinked, smiled lopsidedly, and nodded. "Of course, you'll want to test it." As soon as she finished speaking, Lilo's eyes went wide, and her muscles seized up. Her body went limp like a rag doll's for a moment after that, and she fell off of the sofa.

Gabe knew what the woman was capable of, but it still gave him a nasty turn to see Lilo just wilt like a dead plant. He watched, tense, but less so than before; Uzza had told him that Sadako could resurrect people, and he trusted his brother.

Sadako watched over the girl's lifeless body. If she remained dead for ten more minutes or so, she would implant her DNA into her own body and resurrect her. It wasn't something she enjoyed doing overmuch, but she would do it for family gladly.

But she didn't have to worry long. Within a minute, Lilo opened her eyes, gasped for breath, and sat up. "Son of a bitch that hurts!" She gripped the coffee table and shuddered.

Gabe laughed, mostly from sheer adrenaline, but a little from relief. It had worked. Everything was copa-fucking-cetic. He laughed a little more, ignoring the strange looks he got. She was his until she decided she didn't wanna be. It took work not to cry in front of Sadako.

Immediately when she saw that he was tearyeyed, she stood up to lunge across the room, hugging him so tightly that if he'd needed to breathe, he would've winced. "It worked! I remember thinking 'what did that lady do ow ow ow fuck' and then I woke up. It was like a nap or something." She buried her head in Gabe's chest, grinning like an idiot.

Gabe held her just as tightly, kissing her like it was their wedding again. He heard Uzza chuckle softly, and Gabe broke it just long enough to grin at the Grigori. "I don't wanna be rude, but would you guys excuse us? We have stuff to talk about now that we know it worked." He'd send Sadako something nice, just as a thank you, but right now, he wanted Lilo to himself.

She wasn't looking at Uzza, but she nodded agreement. Sadako bowed deeply before taking her father's hand. The two disappeared, likely to her father's temple or an ice cream shop.

Blinking, Lilo looked up at Gabe. "We have stuff to talk about?"

You're here, and you're safe and it worked, and I gotta just ... do something." He got up, jumping up and down, mostly to make her laugh, but he really felt that amped.

He actually hadn't been fishing for compliments, and laughed. "I just mean that I haven't had a steady. A person who, at any moment, might come up to me and say I love you, let's fuck." He kissed her. "I don't deserve you, and I'm glad you didn't do this for me, cause I sure as shit don't deserve that." Gabe picked her up again, grinning.
