What: Meeting new people and poking Royal Guards

Merrill was lost. More lost than she'd ever been, really. Hawke was coming, though, so she had decided she would stay still. It was better than wandering off the docks again. She poked at the strange device in her hand that was allowing her to communicate with her friends. How strange! Such a tiny device that seemed to work from so far away.

She looked back up at the men in their strange hats. "Are you sure you can't talk to me? I'm not a monster, you know. I'm just lost." She frowned slightly when they wouldn't answer. Even the Qunari would have spoken to her. Probably only to tell her to go away, if she wasn't with Hawke, but at least that was something! She stood on her tiptoes to peek over their shoulders. "That is a very nice home," she remarked. Still, silence.

"Are those hats very itchy?"

Merlin was coming back from school, walking around the long way. He liked walking around the front to see what sort of silly things tourists were doing to try and get the stupid mutes in stupid hats to talk. It was always amusing. What he saw this time was a girl who looked pretty desperate asking for directions. He walked up to her, glaring a bit at the guards.

"Hey, can I help?" He grinned at her, she was dressed strange and he had a distinct feeling she probably had come here through a vortex.

Merrill didn't have her tattoos anymore, but she was still fairly obviously Elven. Her ears were pointed with various piercings, and she wore Dalish armor, and her shoes were...well, not very shoe-like. "Oh! Hello," she said, turning to Merlin. "Are you allowed to talk to me, then?"

"I'm sorry, that was rude," she said, a bit embarrassed at her outburst. It was just that she was getting frustrated with the guards. "I'm Merrill. I was just trying to find out where I am so that I can tell my friends."

	Merlin laughed, not finding her rude, but finding it hilarious. "Nah, not rude. I'm Merlin. I am allowed to talk to you. I'm not one of the Queen's Guard. They can be rather frustrating. "They're always like this?" She smiled. "It's nice to meet you, Merlin. I'm glad you can talk to me! I was starting to feel even more out of place."

"A palace? How exciting." She looked down at the smartphone in her hands. She was starting to figure things out, but she certainly wasn't comfortable with it yet. "Could you?" She held out the device to him. "I'm not really sure what I'm doing, yet."

"It's not quite as exciting as it sounds, but it's a nice place." He took the smartphone and started playing with it a little. He showed her a bit of how to use it. Luckily he had picked up a lot about electronics and all the new stuff since he'd gotten here. "Here, I'll tell them you're at Buckingham Palace. They should be able to find you from there."

It seemed like a moment like that was just made for a certain Ferelden refugee to run in on.

Today was a good day for Hawke. Sure, the Portkey had almost made her throw up on the way here, but she was going to get used to it, dammit. Nothing was going to stop her from coming to see Merrill, especially since the last time she'd seen her was when Meredith had decided to try and kill them all.

She muttered a small prayer to the Maker, nicely asking Him to make sure that people didn't realise she was some sort of celebrity, before moving into the crowd.

Seeing Merrill, she rushed up to her and hugged her tightly, really not noticing Merlin in the slightest. "By the Maker, I missed you!"

"I haven't heard of that. Is it nice?" she asked Merlin. "Really? Do--Oh!" she squeaked, suddenly hugged by the Champion. "Hawke!" she cried, smiling brightly and hugging back. "That was fast!" She'd thought she would be waiting longer than that. "I missed you too!" She had just seen her friend a few hours ago, but it was still a relief, after this ordeal.

"Merlin, this is my friend, Hawke. She's a hero." She smiled up at Hawke. "Hawke, this is Merlin. The guards here are protecting his house!" Merrill hoped they wouldn't end up having to kill them. Usually when people's houses had guards, they had to kill them, it seemed.

	"It's nice. Not as advanced as this place." Merlin looked up when Merrill's friend came up. He waved and smiled at her. "Hero. That's cool. It's not my house, I just stay there. "Merlin? There are a lot of similar names in this conversation..." yes, Hawke was doing one of the things she did best - stating the blatantly obvious. She could vaguely sense something magical about him, but she was a bit too into her 'eee, Merrill!' mood to care too much. "Nice to meet you, though, thanks for helping her out."

Glancing at the guards, she could swear they looked incredibly like Qunari... or maybe that was just down to the facial expressions. They certainly lacked the tattoos, but that vortex-thing had stolen both hers and Merrill's, so... "They look pretty tough, even if it's only tradition. Who're they protecting?"

"Hopefully you won't get us confused," Merrill said with a cheerful smile. "I'm the one with the pointy ears!" she added helpfully. She didn't really think Hawke would forget who she was, but sometimes Merrill got to make jokes, too.

"Hopefully not someone bad." She looked over at Merlin. "It isn't someone bad, is it?" Now that Hawke was here, she had no doubt that they could take them if they needed to. "Oh!" She held her phone up for Hawke to see. "Look, Hawke! Merlin showed me how to make a happy smiley face!"

Merlin laughed. "Not a problem. I really can't believe these guards won't help a lost girl. Really. Let's you know that chivalry really is dead." He looked at how tough Hawke looked, "Not that you probably care that much for chivalry or anything..."

"Oh, the Queen. They are the Queen's guard. I'm friends with the prince, that's why I'm here. They aren't at all bad people."

It was probably telling of where they came from that Hawke was so amused by the little smiley face. "Andraste's sanctified nether regions, that's incredible. How do you do that?"

She shook her head, focusing back on Merlin. She could learn about incredible technological things later, she guessed. "A place with guards where we don't have to hurt anyone? I'm amazed."

"Well, first you push this button.." She looked back up at Merlin when Hawke did. "Very strange!" she said, looking up at the guard. "But I haven't seen them do anything cruel. I haven't seen them do much of anything."

"Merlin, have you seen them without their hats? Do they have horns? They look so very like the Qunari!" She looked over at Hawke, guessing her friend agreed. "Only.. smaller."

Try as she might, Hawke couldn't help but laugh - how could one little elf have a stomach that loud? Maybe it was a Dalish thing... "I think we'd better get something for you to eat, Merrill. Can't have my favourite elf starving."

She might've pouted a little on hearing that news. No amazing adventures of discovering whether they were Qunari or not? Boo. Still, maybe food could make up for it... "If you're not busy, could you show us?"
