It was just a normal morning for Kaito. He'd fallen into the world very recently, but he was enjoying settling into a nice little morning routine. Getting a shower and getting dressed for school before the sun rose, and then getting breakfast ready and tidying up before Miku woke up. It was a cozy sort of life for him.

He was taking out the garbage after leaving the breakfast of fresh fruit and steamed rice and morning soup for Miku in the kitchen, and walked into the alley with the small sack of refuse. It was there that he was approached by a blue, gelatinous blob with a small smile and big, black eyes. It was on top of the garbage can.

Kaito tried to ignore it. It wobbled at him. He tried to shoo it away from the garbage can lid. It wobbled at him and looked somewhat confused. And then Kaito tried to push it away and it jumped up and hit him in the face, with the force of a heavy slap, before it landed back on the garbage can and wobbled some more.

Oh. It was on. Kaito picked up the slime - which was about the size of  a basketball - and chucked it across the alley, where it dissolved against the stone wall and dropped a few coins. Kaito pumped his fist in a momentary fit of victory, before setting the garbage in the can, and pocketing the coins.

... And that was when he turned back to get back to the flat, and saw three red slimes blocking his way.

This meant war. He picked up an old broom that had been left near the garbage, and broke it off, before spinning the handle. These slimes were going down.

Miku had woken up after Kaito, as was per their habit. After drowsily rubbing the sleep out of her eyes, she padded to the shower for her usual long soak. She washed her long hair and put it into a towel to dry before scrubbing herself with another so her skin would dry. Wrapping a cherry blossom pink kimono around her slight form, she went to eat breakfast.

Where she was confronted with two green slimes on her food, wobbling to and fro.

"Hey!" She batted cautiously at them, yelping in surprise when they slapped her hand hard, leaving a bright red mark on her pale skin. "Why you little - " Miku rarely showed her temper to anyone, but when she felt mistreated, it tended to flare up and show its ugly face. Dodging its slimy appendages, she darted to the fridge, pulling out a firm, uncooked leek. Batting at it with a firm overhead stroke, it soon exploded into a puff of smoke and a few coins. The next dropped a steel item, and she blinked at it. Was that - a leek made out of steel? She grinned and held it aloft, squealing in joy.

Hearing the squeal come out of the apartment, Kaito did away with the first two red slimes quickly enough and pushed the third out of the way while dashing for the door. Miku was in trouble! He ran through the long hallways and up the stairs, whacking slimes as he came in contact with them, leaving puffs of smoke and coins in his wake before slamming the door open, ready to do battle with everything and anything in the way of Miku.

Which was probably why the wild eyes and near-hyperventilation that was going on.

"Miku, are you okay?" He said as he dashed through the apartment and into the kitchen... which was where he found Miku. With the steel leek.

"... A... Steel leek?"

She grinned at him and nodded. "Yes, one of the monsters that was eating my breakfast dropped it. Thank you for making me food." She rubbed the mark on her arm, showing it to Kaito. "I hope it bruises, I want to see what it's like." She shrugged and looked up at him, running her fingers through his hair. "Are you all right?"

He had a red cheek and a little dirt where he'd gotten swatted by the blue slime, but nothing more. "I'm fine. You're welcome." He kissed her one the forehead. "What's going on here? Nobody said anything about monsters!"

Moving to the sink, she got a rag damp with water and moved to wipe off his cheek. She liked fussing over him, and smiled at his kiss. "I don't know. Master would have told us if he knew, wouldn't he?" She ran her thumb gently over the red spot on his cheek, making sure to keep the steel leek in her hand.

"He's a demon," Kaito reminded, "And he's barely ever around. But you did really well defending yourself. If there's monsters here, there's probably even more outside. They were in the hallways and alley, too. Good thing they were so easy to kill," he said, before chuckling softly and looking down sheepishly, still holding onto the broom handle with one hand. "Thank you for cleaning me up. Maybe we should check the board, to see if there's any safe places. If Mordhaus is safe," Kaito thought, since he'd been spending a lot of time there, "We could go there until the monsters leave."

Miku nodded enthusiastically. "We should find somewhere that doesn't - " She didn't have time to finish her thought before yelping when a larger slime started to ooze around the couch. "I just cleaned that yesterday!" She stabbed at it with the steel leek, cheeks puffed out in concentration.

Kaito jumped to attention once she yelped and realized that they were being attacked from either side, and started whacking at a couple slimes that had come in from the hallway. "Stupid things! Go grab your phone, I'll keep them from regrouping!" He grinned when the beasts poofed, and dropped a few coins. He pocketed those as well - knowing full well that they'd be hell to vacuum up.

That was about when Raziel showed up, flail in hand. Astarte had sent him to check up on her brothers' 'children', which he had originally thought were actual kids, not... well, what sounded like a pair of young adults, from what he could hear. He cleared his throat loudly enough to catch their attention.

"Having troubles with monsters, young ones?" He asked with a tone of droll amusement. "Your Master's sister has asked me to come collect you. I am Raziel, Astarte's husband, and a former archangel. Come with me, and I will keep the both of you safe."

Miku was throwing the coins she'd collected at another gel monster, and eeped loudly when she saw the blond man standing in her living room. "Miss Ash?" She liked the sister of her Master, especially since she was good at answering every sort of question.

Moving to Kaito, Miku wrapped her arms around his waist and nodded. It was an unspoken I will go wherever you go. She trusted his judgement.

Kaito nodded to that and blinked, realizing that the other man was blind, but could follow their movements by sound. "Is it safer there?" He asked, and the fallen angel nodded, holding out his free hand.

"Take my hand, both of you," Raziel said, and Kaito did. He had no reason not to trust the blind man, who knew Ash and Asmodeus. And for some reason, he felt compelled to believe him, even though he was usually wary of most strangers.

Reaching out, Miku took the man's hand as well. His voice was a bit intimidating, but only because of how stern it sounded; she didn't think he bore them any ill will.

She closed her eyes, not wanting to be caught off guard by a monster, but not wanting to leave them open in the event that they would be traveling somewhere.

Raziel transported them both easily into Uruk, into the center of the temple, which happened to be where his library was. He bowed his head to them both. In Japanese, he spoke to them both again.

"You will be safer in this sanctuary. I have guarding spells on each door and protection over the entire temple. Ash and I will be outside, fending off whatever monsters try to take the temple by force. If either of you need anything, ask the servants. They will provide for you." He turned his head, tilting it just slightly as he heard the battle outside, and the sound of Astarte's full fury in the form of thunder. "She's not happy about this, but it gives us something to do," Raziel said with a small smile.

Kaito had closed his eyes before they were transported, and when he opened them up, he was surprised by the sudden change. Instead of their apartment, they were in an expansive library, which was lit with hundreds of glowing crystals that were placed on top of shelves and on sconces on pillars. The whole place seemed warm, inviting, and incredibly at peace. Despite the sound of a storm raging outside, he felt placid.

"Thank you, and thank Ash for us. If you..." he paused and smiled sheepishly, "If you need anything from us, please, let us know. We may be new, but both of us have the capability to fight, if necessary." Miku moreso than he, since she had songs that were from the perspective of a battle-hardened fighter.

Miku blinked when a young woman with skin the color of melted chocolate came up to her with a long staff in hand. "Miss Miku? Mistress Inanna wanted me to give this to you." The girl scuttled off before Miku could ask her any questions.

She tested the heft of it and nodded, turning to Raziel. "Thank you. We appreciate it both." She hugged the blind angel impulsively, grinning a little. "We're so lucky to have so many new friends here!"

Raziel blinked at the hug and gently, if not entirely stiffly, returned the hug with one arm. "You are welcome. Now I must go and fight. Stay here until someone comes to get you, or you are ready to fight with us." That said, the angel slipped away, uncoiling his flail, ready to return to the fray.

Kaito shook his head with a chuckle. "I'll call us both in sick to our schools for one week, hopefully that will be enough." That said, he pulled out his phone and started dialing. After a few minutes, that was squared away, and he started checking the boards.

"It seems that this is worldwide," Kaito informed Miku, "And that Mordhaus is one of the last places we would wish to be right now. It has become even more dangerous, or so Miss Sada's son says. What do you plan to do, Miku-chan?"

Miku looked back at Kaito and nodded. She moved to stand behind him, her arms around his waist as he looked at the boards. "Oh, no, Teja-kun says we can't go, then we can't go. He knows more about that castle than anyone!" She held onto her staff before looking around at the girls moving to and fro, minding the sigils. "Um... could one of you get a weapon for my ... for my Kaito? Miss Ash might be able to help?" She sounded nervous and bowed deeply.

Turning back to Kaito, she grined. "I won't fight without you."

Kaito browfurrowed and tried to think. Did he have any ability to fight at all? Other than swinging around a broomstick, that is. He blinked and looked up at Miku.

"Boss Death. You can wield a sword far better than a staff, if you can draw from that." His brow furrowed even farther when he tried to think of his own music. He couldn't remember a single time, a single song when he could defeat great amounts of evil with a weapon. The only thing he could come up with was Pane Dhiria, where he defeated a great evil with singing, Time Forgotten One, where he was the soul of a warrior stuck in a statue, and One Year After, where his scarf turned into great dragon armor, but... that didn't help him.

"I'm..." He said with his head bowed, "I'm not going to be much help."

"Nonsense," a voice spoke from behind them. Ash smiled and ruffled Kaito's hair. "You will give Miku a reason to fight. A sword, you said?" She snapped her fingers, and for a moment the air around her shimmered before a sword appeared in Miku's free hand.

Smiling, Miku handed the staff to Kaito. "It's like your broom," she murmured sheepishly.

Kaito held the staff, and floundered for the words to say in front of Ash. "Thank... thank you, Ash-sama. Thank you and Raziel, but I... I only wish that they had made me the hero that they've made Miku o-or even the Kagamine twins." It was the fault of the creators, his Masters, really, to give him such paltry abilities. He felt stunted, and angry, and jilted. But there was no time for those feelings to manifest much for him. There were monsters to be killed. "I will fight," he said at last, turning to Miku and standing proudly. "I promised you that I would protect you, and I will."

Ash smiled at him before turning to leave, knowing she made him feel uncomfortable. Once she was gone, Miku turned to press her lips to Kaito's, smiling a little to herself. "I love you. Don't get hurt on my account. You do protect me." She smiled, thinking to herself about the memories from certain songs, trying to gather up every ounce of courage.

Kaito had enough courage, but the ability to back it up was lacking. He kissed her more roughly than usual, but with no less love within it, and then nodded, hefting up the staff and taking her hand. Leading her out of the library, he felt less protected, less comforted and at ease, and the pillars which were between themselves and the outside made it feel like a forest of marble. But he saw the creatures that were outside, hitting an invisible force field. They were like mummies, only without bandages. Dried, withered, skeletal undead clawed at the force field, and attacked the women who fought. In the distance, he could see the blind angel far outside, on the marble walkway, using that multi-lashed whip with expert precision, its metal ends shredding whatever came in its path, before the beasts were set on fire with a hand gesture.

Kaito was way out of his league, but he had to try.

Miku smiled when she saw Ash. She was beautiful and intimidating at the same time, sending whirlwinds and lightning toward the creatures. Reaching out to squeeze Kaito's hand again, she ran toward them, sword at the ready, attacking two of them and cutting them down at the knees before beheading them. It was odd how it came to her so easily.
