WHO: Kabe and Raziel
WHAT: Catching up
WHERE: Uruk
WARNINGS: Doubtful.

Kabe poofed into the desert, all at once hit by the heat and stunned by the view. She'd never been in the area before, and it made her gasp at the sheer majesty of the building before her. It somehow seemed to fit her notions of the desert, even if it really didn't have anything that associated with the stereotypes.

She walked into the house, not entirely sure where to go or whether to wait, but she eventually followed the sounds down the hall to what looked like a morning room or drawing room of some kind. "Hello? Sorry, I'm trying to find Raziel."

Raziel was the one who she addressed, though it was likely for her not to notice such a thing - he had his wings incorporeal, and he was less imposing than his once-dark self had made him look. He was no less tall, however, but he didn't exude sheer terror, or sheer power, as he once had. In fact, it was likely that the closest thing he resembled, as far as his presence was concerned, was a particularly old human librarian. However, he was young in appearance, wearing a light colored brocaded linen shirt, as well as a pair of denim trousers, with a pair of well worn leather boots that had fine embossing and stitching. They were all he kept from his prior self, to remind him that he was walking a tenuous line.

"You've found him," he said, no amount of amusement lacking from his tone. "Hello, Kokabiel. Welcome. It's a pleasure to have you here. Please forgive the clutter," He said, vaguely motioning to the tabletop of papers, "I'm working on something rather important. Have a seat."

She hadn't seen him in person since he'd gotten back to himself, and the change was still remarkable enough for her to smile. Kabe chuckled, shaking her head. "I didn't recognize you. Should I wait outside or something? I don't want to interrupt." She knew his work was one of the most important things to him, though he seemed a whole lot less likely to yell at her.

"It can wait for a while," Raziel assured as he gathered up his papers, stacking them and setting them aside. On them were Angelic inscriptions, and runes he had been working on creating. "I'm working on finding a name for my pupil. Of course, it is not as hard to create a name and sigil for him as it is for it to be recognized by the host, but that'll be a bridge to cross when we get to it." He took a seat at the table, comfortable and casual.

"How are you doing, Kabie? I have heard that you've found work under Azrael. Good work for a Grigori, I think."

"A name." Kabe echoed, raising an eyebrow. It made sense, she supposed; there had already been an Ariel or Uriel. "That won't be an easy task." She followed him, sitting in the nearest chair when he sat first. When he brought up her work, though, she nodded, making sure to articulate. "Az did give me a job, yeah. I've been helping him with the terminal cases, and I've just ... really loved it so far." She smiled a little. "Az said pretty much the same thing. The work suits us. Sometimes I forget he was one of us, before I was."

"He was one of the first Grigori," Raziel said with a quiet, fond tone, "And was the first Archangel. He was chosen to guide souls to their final destinies, be it through death, or resurrection and rebirth. He's more than the angel of Death. How familiar are you with Tarot?" He asked, summoning up a deck of cards, and then summoned the two cards he asked for up to the top of the deck, picking them up, showing them to her. "Those who consider him to be represented in the Death card alone are incorrect. It symbolizes change, and transition, but that is not all that he does. That is what Reapers do, and that is what you are now symbolically attached to. However," he set the Death card down and held up the other card, the Wheel of Fortune, "He is the keeper of fate and fortune, the angel who guides people to their destinies. The hand of God. Those who go before their time is up are still in his possession, protection, and under his guidance. One day, this may be your job as well." He tapped the card gently and set it down before sitting back once more.

"It's exciting and important work, Kabie, and I'm glad you're doing it."

Kabe had a passing familiarity with the deck, and said as much. "Tarot was used a lot in Louisiana; it's become kind of a part of the Cajun tradition. I knew about the Death card, that it isn't really used to mean death, but the other stuff, I wasn't sure of." She smiled. "Az and I have been talking, and I don't know. You kind of forget just how fucking powerful he really is. It'd scare the piss out of me if I didn't trust him, but I do trust him." She shrugged, but laughed a little when he said Azrael's job might one day fall to her. "Thanks, but I'm not cut out for responsibility like that. It's all I can do to ride herd on my people. And Michael." She was half teasing about the last bit, but only half.

"I'm not meaning that he would hand the reins to you, just that you may wind up doing precisely what he does so he doesn't have such a burden," Raziel clarified, before smiling faintly, "He is powerful, yes, but aren't we all, in our own ways? You have always been strong in many ways, not just in the ways of battle and Watching. For example, you can make the most militaristic being in all of our heirarchy turn into a big baby when it came to expressing his feelings for you." He arched a brow and then wagged a finger in her general direction, "Be careful of that power, Kabie, we wouldn't want to see what would happen if he were to be denied anything."

"I see." She would have just nodded, but well, Raziel. "I'll see what Az has in store for me ... and I don't know, I lived through my punishment relatively intact." Relatively. She laughed and looked away when he mentioned Michael, though. "I came by that ability with Michael completely unintentionally. And I don't know, I've denied him things. He just grumbles and goes to pout with a cigar and make fun of soap operas." The amusement in her tone was obvious, but so was a bit of affection. "Consider yourself thanked, speaking of; apparently it was you who made him grow a pair."

"Oh, he's just a big baby when it comes to emotions. When I pointed out that it was me of all beings giving him relationship advice, he sacked up. I'm the last person who should have a better bearing on such a topic, I spent thousands of years fooling myself." He shook his head, running a hand through his hair. "But I know you'll make him proud, Kabie. Proud to be so lucky."

"Still, I appreciate it. Fond of the old grump." She didn't want to go into too much, obviously, it would probably bore him, but she wanted to make sure her gratitude was known. "Az actually suggested I get to know your Astaroth better; he thought we'd get along. I don't know, I've only met her once, and that was at the dinner when she didn't really leave your side." Kabe hadn't really been paying attention to her surroundings at that dinner, anyway.

"Mm, I believe the two of you would get on rather well, though she is... Quite feminine. You're a bit of a tomboy," mused the fallen angel. He summoned up the tea set, with hot water and all of the trappings that made a fine tea, slowly and methodically setting about pouring himself a cup. He used his fingertip to keep from overpouring in the cup. "Not that I see anything wrong with being one, especially considering where you come from to get to that end."

"I can be feminine." Kabe grumbled, but she wasn't offended; he was right that being more casual was sort of her default state. "I don't know much about your lady; Az just said we ought to meet. But I came this time around to see you. Az also suggested I see how you were getting on, and see if you might perhaps consider coming out a little bit more." She smiled faintly. "I know you were looked for at that party thing that happened over the weekend." Hopefully he wouldn't think she was nagging; really, she just wondered and kind of wanted to look out for him. She felt a little obligated.

"I'm not a child, Kabie," groused Raziel, who then paused, and then shook his head with a chuckle, "but I would appreciate whatever company I can get while I regain my abilities. It's a shame I don't feel particularly safe in a metropolitan or outside of an ancient city long since abandoned, but with the powerful enemies I've made, it's prudent that I stay rather out of sight and out of mind for the time being." He faced Kokabiel with a small shake of his head. "Perhaps now is the best time to take root like you and my other fallen family had."

"I know you're not a child. But you do have family who apparently worry." She wouldn't press further, but it was important that the point got across. "I did want to see you, though. I heard what Asmodey did and just ... I don't know, even when you weren't yourself you were kind to me." Kabie shrugged. "Figured the least I could do was look in."

"Don't feel obligated to," he said with a wave of his hand, before taking up the tarot cards, shuffling them to keep his hands busy, "it would be an act of great kindness on your part to look in on an old soul who wronged you deeply before. I still... feel quite awful about all that. It was overkill, I think. While I was still him, that darkness within me spoke that it was a light penalty in comparison to what he could have done. But it still did not befit your actions. I will forever feel guilt in sending you down."

Kabe shrugged. "We'll have to agree to disagree there; I mean, it snapped me out of my ... whatever it was. It sucked at the time, but it worked out." She would have been different had he not intervened; of that she was sure. "I'm not going to go proclaiming myself your worthless slave for all eternity, but I gotta give credit where credit's due." She smiled a little.

"No, that wouldn't do at all," chuckled Raziel, who sipped his tea while still shuffling the cards with one hand. "But I still feel as if I was too harsh. Agreeing to disagree does seem reasonable, in retrospect. Who's to say you would have gotten back to your right mind without it? But then again, who's to say that it didn't affect you in ways it should not? Angels are not meant to be in that plane, it alters them." He faced the table and started laying down the cards in a traditional spread, just to see if he still had the knack for the silly game.

She watched him idly spread the cards, trying to remember what little she knew about it. She'd seen a few tarot readers, but not many. "What ways are you thinking of?" Kabe wasn't really nervous, more curious. "Cause honestly, I kind of like how I am right now. I'm calmer than I remember being. I'm ... okay, I'm still kind of a bitch apparently, but I don't really take it all personally anymore." Some of that might have been due to Michael, but she'd have hated to think that it was all him changing her personality and not her own efforts.

It was a five-card spread, the first card being the attitude in the present, represented by the seven of wands - courage in the face of adversity. Raziel ran his fingertips over it with a smirk, not facing her. "You altered yourself and your outlook, but one has to wonder if what you saw down there did not seep into your soul. Make you realize that what you saw was something you never wished to see again. You've returned to the light in spite of Hell. I'm not saying it always has to be a bad altering, simply altering at all, in a creature that shouldn't ever change. You feared me and my doing impossible things, when you did something impossible, yourself."

Raziel then turned the next card, which was the emotions underlying the attitude taken, represented by the card Judgment in reverse - procrastination and indecision. He huffed a sarcastic chuckle. "Bloody things, they still know me after all these years."

Kabe blinked. "Of course I saw things I never want to see again. That was the point ... to show me where my bullshit attitude, and my fear and my anger were going to send me." She counted it damn lucky that she never really dreamed of being down there. "If I wasn't supposed to change, I don't know, I'm really happy, in retrospect, that I did."

She saw him turn over the tarot cards one by one, curious. "You can actually get something meaningful out of tarot cards?"

"Yes. I can get meaningful answers out of a magic 8 ball if I focus," he said with a lopsided smile. "Divination works for me, because I am its father. But this is not divining, no, it's simpler than that. This is focusing the cards into a direction," he waved his hand over the cross spread, "specifically, it's what I keep hidden from myself. My emotions, my desires, my mental obstacles. I could do one for you next," he mentioned with a smile as he flipped over the third card in the spread, signifying where his current attitude was leading - the hermit. It meant introspection, need for consult and guidance. Well, clearly, he thought. "Now it's just telling me what I already know," he snipped.

She did remember it was sort of his purview, all that magic and fortune-telling. It made sense it might work for him, even the stupid stuff. She did her best not to even smile at his snippiness, if only because he seemed restless. "Feel free if you want to read me, but no obligation." She was curious in spite of herself. "I have to admit, I never had much use for any of that stuff. I mean, we weren't using bibliomancy to predict troop movements, far as I know."

"Bibliomancy's amusing to me," Raziel said as he flipped over the fourth card, how others perceived his attitude, and it showed Judgment. A great balancing of all things, and a resolution finally at hand. Well, yes, clearly. "find a passage that suits, and go with it? Pah. You'd be better off tossing down bones." He smirked as he finally flipped the last card over, the obstacle he could not overcome: The nine of swords - Cruelty. Inescapable guilt and grief over things that had come to pass. Appropriate. He put the cards back in the deck and gently offered them to her. "Shuffle for as long as you feel is necessary, then hand them back to me. Remember that they are not divining your future, only emotions and desires that you may keep buried."

He took another sip of tea, smirking a little, "Nobody truly needs divining, it's simply a hobby or pastime. Tarot was a game played by royalty, who often used the same deck to play something akin to poker, back in the 1400s. They enjoyed knowing their fates just as much as any human does, and that's why it's still so popular."

Kokabiel obediently took the deck and shuffled it, amused. "Did you ever look into voodoo? Chicken bones and snake hearts are some of the most dependable indicators. Well, they say." She handed the deck back to Raziel.

Raziel snorted, shaking his head in amusement, "Voodoo's hilarious. I never had a hand in any of it, but it still works for the willing and wishing. It shows the power of human desire." He set down the cards in a four point cross spread, explaining which each of the cards meant as he set them down, face down on the table.

"The point of tarot is not to show the future or tell you your larger fate, but to help you in your decisions along the way. There are no spreads that can accurately tell you where you will ultimately end up, because nothing can foretell that. Fate is subjective to each action you make. As I said, this is only to tell you what your attitudes are to everything, so you can have a better grasp on how to go about your life." That said, he flipped the first card over to show the seven of wands. "Your current face attitude is one of valor. You feel courageous in the face of adversity and victorious in overcoming great obstacles. There is strength in your outward attitude, however, in your inner thoughts," he said, flipping over the second card to show the five of coins reversed, "you feel prudence. You are worried about the other shoe dropping in a very physical way. You do not wish to become so inwardly victorious due to it. But the five of coins in reverse also signifies loneliness and suffering aiding spiritual growth."

"That's something you have to answer for yourself, once the reading is done. Taking each card singularly when the story is left unfinished may bode ill, keep that in mind," Raziel said with an aloof tone, before flipping over the third card, "The third card is how your attitude is changing or will change in the near fuure, and it is the ten of cups. Your cup runneth over; you're beginning to feel fulfilled, and beginning to accept that your worries are in vain. You're finally starting to delight in what you have before you, taking contentment and solace in your friends, family, and beloved." He turned to face her, nodding a little, "That's always good. How others perceive you is this card," he said as he used the tips of his long, sharp nails to flip it over, "The nine of coins - Gain. You are attaining elegance and refinement by embracing this newfound path, and showing great use in your resources, showing foresight in your actions. Those who look upon you look favorably, as you have seemingly grasped the brass ring you've been desiring to obtain."

"The cards are more blind than I am, you know," joked Raziel with a lopsided smile. "This final card is the hardest pill to swallow, it is the obstacle you cannot overcome, or the one thing you hide from yourself the most." He flipped it over and it was Temperance. "Ah, this delightful lady. She symbolizes tact and self restraint, something you've shown piteously little of, being brash and quick to act. But the fact that she's here," he said, tapping the card with his fingertip, "means that you are well capable of it, but you find it hard to come to it. I suppose what one could get out of this spread is that in your recent history, you've come to find gain and favor, freedom and happiness, though you still have hesitation in accepting it. What you seem to lack and wish to have is balance and self control. Perhaps by following through and feeling that gain signified by the ten of cups, you may obtain temperance."

He sat back and took his cup of tea in hand. Well, it was worth a ponder, at least.

"Interesting stuff." Kabe nodded, thinking. At length she did speak. "It does sort of remind me of one thing I haven't done, and I kind of wanted to check with you before I did it." He looked expectant, and she said, "Your heir. I guess he's technically a cousin of mine now. I never spoke to him." To explain or to apologise for what she'd done. Mephistopheles had basically warned her off from doing so.

"Nor did you have any reason to," Raziel said, finally gathering up the cards before letting them disappear into the aether. "but if you feel it's necessary, I believe the two of you are well beyond that. I believe, however, what you did truly brought him to understand that what I was could not entirely supersede my true nature. My care for him in those crucial moments made me realize precisely how important Ariel was to me, as well. Had you not threatened his well-being, it is possible that we would not be where we are today. So although what you did was inexcusable, it was also necessary, and I thank you for it."

It took her a few minutes to understand that, but eventually she got there. "I understand what you mean and I'm glad it worked out for the better, but it still bugs me." Kabe shook her head. "It would take a burden off me if I apologised, even if he doesn't need to hear it. Maybe I could write him or something. I don't know. I just want to make sure it's right." It was probably silly and unnecessary, but it offended her sense of right and wrong, to know she hadn't even tried.

"I hope so." She wouldn't ask him how to find her new cousin; she'd ask Gabe or Michael to take a message or something. It would work out.

She changed the topic to one of more curiosity. "I have to ask what this place is. I spent a lot of Earth years in Mesopotamia, but I never ran across anything like this. It's beautiful." And somehow faintly imposing, but that was also part of its charm. The smile and the stab in the back, and all that.
