Entry tags:lulu, quorra

Who: Quorra, Lulu and baby Bel (probable cameos by Maison and Soren)
Where: Flyleaf Books, formerly Sign of the Weasel
When: Now-ish
What: First meetings
Warnings: Circuit-corroding cuteness

Maison was in what he called 'the clinic', working on a couple tricky repairs, which left Quorra in charge of the register, though given the time of evening, it wasn't that busy, and she was working on sorting through a box of donated books as well, price-stickering them and humming more or less along with the music on the shop's sound system as she did so. She actually had a pretty good rhythm going so far as stickering and stacking the books, she'd shelve them once they were all labeled.

Lulu had come to look for her eldest son, figuring that if he wasn't at her home or his own, he would be here. Her newest child was near her chest in a sling. She ignored any glances she got from patrons - she had long gotten used to glances from people wondering why a woman in such high heels and such a tiny dress was holding a baby.

She approached the woman who was stacking the books. "Excuse me, is Soren Skwigelf here?"

She blinked up at the voice, "He was earlier? I know because he was helping me with the tall shelves." She said, "I don't think he's still here though, unless he fell asleep somewhere."

She smiled then, offering a hand over the counter, "I'm Quorra."

Lulu smiled and reached out to shake the woman's hand. She still cradled her baby with the other hand. "I'm Lulu, Soren's mother. It's lovely to meet you."

"Oh! You're her." She smiled, open and amused, "He talks about you, sometimes. I think he really loves you a lot."

"I love him a lot as well! You two are friends, I take it?" Lulu found a seat and sat down, offering her finger to Bel for squeezing.

"I think so." She said with a nod, finishing with the stickers, lining the stacks of books up to shelve later, "He's helping me with a book I'm writing."

A grin followed, "Is it yours? She?" She figured she had a fifty-fifty chance of guessing right, and those were pretty good odds.

"He's published a few himself, I've no doubt he's excellent help." Lulu was as proud looking as a mother could look. Looking down at Bel, she nodded. "Yes, she's mine, and she's fairly new. Would you like to hold her?"

She looked startled for a moment, blinking owlishly, "Could I?" It was the same tone often heard from children who'd just been told they could eat dessert before dinner.

It was rare, but Lulu laughed brightly, tossing her head back for a moment. She took Bel out of the sling, holding her for a moment. "Hold your arms like this. Babies have very, very weak heads and necks, so it's important to protect them."

She nodded, settling herself on the other side of the couch, holding her arms as instructed, "I've read books about it, I just, we don't have babies where I'm from, and they're amazing to me."

"Where are you from?" She handed Bel over, making sure that Quorra had a firm hold before fully letting go. Watching over them both carefully, she smiled happily.

Quorra just beamed, poking gently at one of Bel's hands with a fingertip, laughing softly when she held on, "The Grid, it's inside a computer." She was still getting used to admitting that.

Smiling widely, Lulu leaned near Quorra. "She likes you. And that must have been interesting. There weren't computers where I'm from."

There was another half-startled look, "How does that happen?" It wasn't accusatory, it was curious and even a little awed.

"There was a great war between two cities, and one used technology. They lost, and the temples blamed the technology on the slaughter." It had been naive, and she wished she hadn't been brought into it for a long time.

"Oh, I see." She said with a slow nod, just absorbing the information, still tickling Bel's hand gently, mostly to watch her fingers work.

"That was many years before I was born, but eventually the temples became a major political force and all users of machina were outcast." She smiled broadly, watching Quorra tickle Bel. "I'm glad I managed to hellp kill the false god spouting those lies before I was brought here."

Another nod, "Ancient history." She tilted her head, blinking over at the other woman, "You're sort of the last of your kind, aren't you?"
