For a moment, Gaz grinned at Phoebe. She was describing everything she wanted to happen to her home. Shaking her head, Gaz started on her next juice box. "If you lived where I did before here, you'd want people to kill themselves and more. WE were invaded by aliens, and nobody even noticed. They were too stupid." Her voice was scornful, because she knew Phoebe wouldn't understand. Only one person in the world did, and that was her brother.
Gaz didn't care about other people. It was impossible for her to. She'd been an experiment for her father, born of his semen and blood from an almost-abandoned house down the street. She'd been raised by robots and her older brother, sometimes. She'd never been hugged before she met Teja. Normal human compassion was something Gaz felt in fits and bursts, and only for her husband and son.
