WHAT: Girl advice
WHERE: Toshima Island, Japan, then Hawaii
WARNINGS: Gabe's mouth, Uzza being a whore.

Gabe needed advice, and there was only one angel you went to for girl advice. He popped over to Toshima and followed the signs to the top of the mountain. He knew what to do, removing his shoes and stepping inside with a bow. He asked a shrine maiden where En no Ozunu might be found, and headed over to that room.

He opened the sliding door, coughing to announce his presence, before looking in and seeing Uzza lying in one of the low-slung beds. "Hey. Did I wake you? I gotta talk to you."

Uzza, back at his shrine, had started wearing his Japanese face again. He stirred a bit when he heard his brother, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. "A little, just give me a moment." He turned to whisper into the ear of the sleeping girl beside him. "I will return shortly." He pulled on a loose fitting pair of pants under the covers before standing. He smiled at his brother before scooping up Yuki and walking with him. "Are you hungry?"

"Lilo." Gabe said simply, sitting across from him. "Some shit's gone down lately and she and I ... we didn't fight, really, but ... I don't know." He told Uzza the story: that Lilo's ex-boyfriend had taken on the mantle of what Raziel had been, that she had been kind to him as she was, but that she still cared and was still kind to someone who had beaten her. Well, he didn't tell Uzza that Lilo had been slapped around; that was Lilo's business. He spoke in generalities and hoped the Grigori would not press.

	Quietly, Uzza sat and listened. "Your jealousy comes from a place of love, but it is still jealousy. You are sad that someone hurt her, but also because you could not fix it." Gabe shook his head. "I don't know. She's all … she still cares about him, and she told him she loved him. I know it's not romantic but … he was terrible to her." He grumbled.

"But what?" Uzza blinked. "You paused before you said that last bit. Don't consider anyone's feelings, just speak." He moved to reach under the bench, finding a few snack cakes and handing him one.

"I don't want him near enough to hurt her, okay? She's too fucking trusting." Gabe finally snapped, blinking and catching himself. "Sorry. Sorry, I didn't mean to yell at you."

On the contrary, Uzza wasn't upset. He put the cake into his mouth and clapped excitedly. "That was fantastic!" He grinned and leaned back. "To deal with a feeling, you have to allow yourself to have them first."

Gabe shook his head, though. "But she's not an idiot. She's not going to let herself get pulled into anything. It's not right that I underestimate her. But I can't fucking shake it. I can't shake that feeling that somehow she's going to get really hurt."

"You do realize that's what love is, right?" Uzza smiled and looked down at his hands, chewing thoughtfully. "It hurts sometimes. It's not always comforting. I've loved Lakshmi for centuries and all I have to show for it is chewing my fingernails." He let Yuki lick cream off of his fingers, unfolding his legs. "Do you trust her?"

Gabe shook his head at the first question. "If I've ever been in love before, it was with Sophitia, and she's been dead for an aeon. I am not up on what love is." As to the last question, he just shrugged. "I'd trust her with my life if I could lose it. But I sometimes think she trusts people she shouldn't."

Uzza leaned back, trying to think of what to say next. "It sounds to me like you want to keep her safe. Which is fine, but she's human. She will always be in danger, and some day, she will die." He knew he was being blunt, but he'd felt that pain before.

He was being blunt, and the idea physically pained Gabe, but he did his best not to show it. "She shouldn't always be in danger. What the hell am I worth if I can't protect her from most of it?"

"But what if you keep her from something wonderful, or something she needs, simply from your worry?" He smiled sadly. "We worry, but we have already seen and done most everything. They have not, and they don't have time to wait."

Gabe shook his head. "You're not making me want to lighten up at all. She'll die, yeah. But it makes me want to lock her in a fucking room until she does. Not that I'm that stupid," he hastened to add.

Uzza smiled sadly. "I know. I also know that you'd do anything to keep her safe. But if you trust her, and if she's worthy of your love at all, she's intelligent enough to watch out for herself. Does she know you worry?"

"I think so. I haven't talked about it with her cause I haven't had any idea what to say." Gabe answered simply.

"Tell her you love her, you worry and hope she is making a good choice. You can't make them for her. You can't stop her. You don't have to like it, but that's simply how it is." He smiled brightly. "Odds are that she doesn't really like something you're doing. No couple agrees with everything the other does."

"Maybe she doesn't, I don't know. Maybe she's pissed off at me for thinking this way. I don't know." Gabe looked around. "I do love her, and I don't want to lose her. How the hell did you ever manage to fall in love with humans before."

"You could talk to her." Uzza's eyes twinkled. "It's a novel concept, I know. And I'm Grigori. We're a bit more human than you archs."

"You are. At least the ones of you I've known." Gabriel sighed. "Sometimes I wish I was, too."

"Fortunately for you, humanity can be learned. See, you're learning jealousy and feeling conflicted and confused and heartsick right now!" Uzza smiled just a little.

Gabe grumbled at him. "No wonder some humans are bitchy all the time." Hell, no wonder some fallens were bitchy all the time.

Uzza hugged him. "Go see her. Talking to me about this may help in the short term, but in the long term, it won't at all. Also, Teja's mother may help you with her lifespan."

Gabe shook his head. "Had to at least get pointed in the right direction before I could talk to her. If I hadn't it would have just pissed her off." He did feel jealous; he did feel heartsick. He mostly wanted to go home and wrap his arms around Lilo and not let go, but that was kind of part of the problem, wasn't it. He just shook his head. "I should probably go home and talk to her." Fuck fuck fuck.

Uzza nodded. "Shoo. If worst comes to worst and she kicks you out and yells or something, you can always sleep here." He grinned, standing up and going back to his room to sleep once more.

"Don't give me that fuckin' nightmare." Gabe said dryly, but he hugged Uzza before popping back to Hawaii. If he had to do this, at least he hoped she'd be home.

Lilo was home, and she was curled up on the couch, a blanket thrown over her body, waiting for him to arrive. Since he didn't come through the door or make any sound, she was still asleep, Dennis in her arms and Danger snoring softly on her feet.

It took him a few minutes more to get up the nerve to come in and look around. He was just about to yell when he saw Danger's tail flickering over the side of the couch. Coming over, he couldn't stop the faint smile, but he knew it wasn't happy. He didn't feel happy. He knelt down next to the couch and shook her gently. "Lilo?"

She fluttered her eyelids as she awoke, smiling when she saw him. "Hey. I was waiting up for you." She rubbed her eyes sleepily, moving to wrap her arms around him. "Sorry, I kind of suck at it. Where were you?"

"Japan. Seeing Uzza." Gabe wrapped his arms around her and hugged her tightly, as tightly as he could possibly manage without choking her.

Lilo nuzzled into his neck, sniffling a little. "I'm sorry. I don't know what I did, but I'm sorry I did it." She burrowed a little more, kissing gently. She felt terribly guilty about something, but she wasn't really sure what.

"No, no, it's my fault for being a twat." Gabriel stroked her hair, one big hand resting against the back of her head. He just blurted what he'd spoken about with Uzza. "I love you, and I want you to be safe, and I don't understand why you still trust that son of a bitch. Why you still love that son of a bitch. I can't stand the thought of anything happening to you."

She rubbed her damp eyes against his shoulder. "He's family. Have you never been hurt by something and still loved it? It's kind of like Dangercat. She bit me once when I gave her a bath, but I love her so much." She burrowed closer. "I don't want anything to happen to you either."

"Cats don't hurt you because they get off on pain." He didn't let her go, eyes closed. "I can't tell you who to be friends with. But you're human, and I'm not, and fuck, Lilo, it scares me so bad." He was doing his best to keep it together; he didn't want to lose it. He'd never get it back.

Lilo stroked his hair, leaning her forehead against his. "Gabe, I'll be fine. I promise, I won't do anything too stupid." She kissed him lightly, pulling him closer. "Just so you know, we talked about how he's going to handle what he is now - by being the same as he's ever been - and then I offered to babysit. That's it."

He had to work not to just lay his head on her chest and cry, but he kept his calm, at least for the most part. "I don't think like, you'll leave me. I don't think that. I just love you and want you safe." Gabe brushed his hair out of his eyes.

"Please don't think that." She cupped his cheeks, leaning back and looking at him fondly. "Please, I love you so much, don't worry about that. I'm safe, and I'm here, and everything is okay."

"I talked to Uzza, and he basically said I can't keep you safe. And it's true, but I just needed to hear it. But if anything happens to you - hell, whenever you die, I can't stand it." She was human. It would happen. But even now the idea hit him square in the gut. He rested his forehead against hers, too tired to bother wiping his eyes. "Just never loved anyone who wasn't immortal before." He didn't know how to cope.

	She wiped his eyes for him, her thumbs careful and gentle. "If I could, I would spend forever with you. Pinky swear." She smiled and held out her finger, chewing her lower lip. That did make him smile, and he held out his little finger, climbing up onto the couch with her, squishing her just a little to make her squeak. "M'sorry." He didn't like feeling so weak and scared, either, but he couldn't help it. "I just wanted to talk to Uzza, because, I mean, I hate you still being nice to him, but I'm not stupid enough to think I could stop you, and I'm probably misjudging him to a degree. I just can't shake the shitty feeling." He ran rough fingers over his eyes, trying to get them to stop leaking.

Squeak she did, giggling a little and moving the animals so they wouldn't get sat upon. The blanket went over both of their shoulders, and she nodded, buring her head into his neck. "Don't do that, you'll hurt your eyes," she murmured.

Thinking quietly to herself, she sucked her thumb idly into her mouth, a habit from childhoo. "Would it help if I couldn't get hurt? Or go away?" She was thinking of ways to stop him crying. It felt like her heart was being torn out.

	His first reaction was mild trepidation, but his second was mild excitement; it would do. "I would like to meet them, definitely, though I'm not sure what they might say." He smiled a little. "I might have looked after Brenda, at least when she had her first one. Though she doesn't know me." The women he couldn't speak to, he tried to watch over, at least as much as he could. He closed his eyes. "Yeah, there was one girl, a cherubim. Her name was Sophitia, but it was ... I don't know, it wasn't serious. She died aeons ago, and I was sad, but I wasn't ... I dunno, it didn't register with me. Maybe I was just young and fuckin' stupid?" He shrugged one shoulder. 	Her careful fingers traced lightly over his eyelids and down his cheekbones. "Cherubim can die? You weren't stupid, you're different than me. I live my life thinking that the next time I free dive, I might not come back up. You live your life knowing you're eternal." "She was killed." Her fingers on his face made him shiver, and he went still, letting her explore. "She actually died in one of the battles leading up to the War of Heaven. I said, violence is the only way an angel can die." He rested one hand on her back, splaying his fingers out. "Honestly, the War is the only time I've really, really felt my life flash before my eyes, and I didn't even see front line combat. I was pretty much Prince Regent, or whatever you call the guy who stays at home and keeps everything from going to shit."
