WHAT: Meeting the potential in-laws?

Gabriel had come to New York to discuss a few things with his brother - Ariel, for one - but for some reason, Az wasn't responding to his summons. It probably meant he was topside, or even Below, but the important thing was, he wasn't on Earth. He figured he'd just teleport into Az's house, leave a note and tell his younger brother to get his ass to Hawaii so they could talk.

He popped into what looked like a living room, well appointed. Gabe looked around, raising an eyebrow, before starting to look for paper. That didn't last long, though; he heard footsteps somewhere in the flat or on the stairs. "Az?" he called. "Az, it's Gabe. That you?"

Calliope had been asleep. She'd heard someone shuffling around her apartment that she shared with her lover - who was out working. That meant someone was there who shouldn't be. Taking her handgun out from under the bed, she eased her way out from under the covers, sneaking around silently in her white silk nightdress until she could press the gun against the intruder's neck. "Who are you?"

Gabriel immediately stopped dead, raising his hands; even though it wouldn't kill him, a bullet in the neck would sure hurt. "I'm Gabriel. Az's brother Gabe." He'd forgotten about Az's lady friend - stupid! - and said as much. "I kinda thought you might be out with Az, since he's not answering my summons and he normally does." He'd have grinned but for the firearm pressed against his skin.

	"Oh!" She immediately removed the gun and made sure he could hear her turning the safety back on and removing the cartridge fromt he gun. "Sorry, I didn't know. Better safe than sorry, I always say. Are you hungry? Az should have some food around." (Reply to this)

	"It's ok, I should have guessed that you might be around. There are other reasons Az might not answer me, after all." He shrugged. "I'm ok, thanks, I was just going to leave a note for him. A lot of stuff has been going on lately, I don't know how much he's told you." Gabe smiled a little. "Will you slap me if I say you're really pretty?" She had beautiful hair and big blue eyes. 	"He's out working, I'm not sure on what. And are you sure?" She moved to the fridge, opening it up and peering inside. There were cookies and there was milk, so she set the plate of sweets on the table before pouring him a glass of milk. "Not a lot, and why would I? Saying something is fine, and thank you by the way." She knew who Gabriel was, and she figured him for a polite man. (Reply to this)

He smiled his thanks at her before taking a cookie, just to be polite. "I don't know, some pretty women get offended if someone mentions that they're pretty. And I can just catch Az when he's back on Earth, I guess; he must be topside." Gabriel didn't mention that his brother might have been in Hell; he knew Azrael had reign over Limbo, but somehow, he didn't like to think about that.

	"I don't know, he could be in the other place." She didn't like to think about Limbo too much, and she sat down at the kitchen table. After finding a shawl, she modestly pulled it over her shoulders, covering her cleavage. Gabriel likely wouldn't want to see that. (Reply to this)

	He didn't mind, but he wasn't going to comment on it. "Well, either way, I'll just try to summon him when he returns. If you don't mind." Gabriel smiled a little. "I'm not trying to be wise when I say I don't like to infringe on people's private time." (Reply to this)

	"Oh, it's fine, this is my apartment and was before I met him. All of the windows are treated to not let any light in." She drummed her fingernails on the table, smiling at Gabriel. "Nor has he told me much about you. We'll have to get to know each other then." (Reply to this)

	Gabriel smiled; his general rule was to be nice until someone offered him violence. "For some reason I thought it was Az's. And what would you like to know? I'm the baby of the family. I live in Hawaii right now. I don't know, aside from work I'm really kinda boring." He polished off his cookie with an approving noise. (Reply to this)

"I could, but I don't do that unless it's an emergency." He meant reading a human; they tended to get pissed off at it. "Everybody's got their private stuff. I mean, all I know is that you've got some Southern in your accent, but it's old. And that you've known Az for a really long time, and he's completely stupid about you." Gabe smiled a little. "As for me, my job on Earth is to work in an ER, but angel-wise, I look after ..." He thought how to put it. "People with important baggage, I guess, you could say. Mothers, messengers, artists."

	"Very old," she murmured. She ruffled his hair and smiled. "That's all correct. I could go into details, but it would just make you really sad. And you look after mothers?" She wondered where he'd been when hers was shot, but that wasn't her business and she knew it had probably been her time. "Is mine all right?" She wanted to make sure she was safe in Heaven where she belonged. (Reply to this)

"I look after new mothers, usually, but I can give you that answer." Normally he would have refused, but Az would probably tell her anyway. He looked at her and closed his eyes. After a few moments he had her original name, and a nod. "I don't sense anything but peace when I think of your real family," Gabe finally said. He had sensed a guardian, but he'd barely begun to think about him or her when he'd gotten the sense of something Very, Very Bad. Best to stay the hell out of that one.
