"We cannot have that," Eustace chuckled. There was a brightness to Mary's voice that gladdened him. He'd had so little opportunity to hear her in good spirits in their previous world, and the same quiet melancholy seemed to possess the young woman here as well.
"I must confess to you that I have developed-- or perhaps have discovered-- a vice," said Eustace. "I have fallen quite madly in love with the abundance and diversity of food available in this world. After work, I eat at a different restaurant almost every night and when I do not, I am at home attempting to cook for myself. It is, I suppose, quite sinful the degree to which I enjoy such things, but I am only human."
