Hearing the sudden sound, Eustace turned immediately in Mary's direction, but saw (vaguely) only the door. Remembering himself, he looked away and then waited for the door to close. He heard the young woman's voice still from behind him, but kept looking in towards the apartment. "Of course, Mary. I only wish I had a more definitive solution to our problems. For now, though," said Eustace, seeing the brighter light of the windows, "I can at least begin to shut your blinds."
Slowly, he began to make his way toward the first set of windows he could make out.
