Cab rides through the busy city were often an exciting proposition, even more so for Eustace in his less than completely sighted state. Being a man of learning and writing, this new world had come to fascinate him as much as dismay him and he firmly believed he could balance a full life in this place with keeping his own morals intact. It was not an easy line to walk, especially as lonely as he could sometimes feel. His continuing friendship with Mary Tudor was a welcome bit of near companionship, so when he found himself in the position to help her, even a harrowing drive through the city would not stop him.
Eustace leaned in toward the door, finally able to read the apartment number before ringing the bell. Remembering himself, he took a step back, making sure that anyone on the other side would be well out of his range of good sight.
