WHO: Ariel, Dean and Princess
WHAT: Warding the bookshop
WHERE: See above
WHEN: Backdated, a week or so before Robbie & Torii's wedding, before Meggie has completed her inventory of the books.
WARNINGS: Doubt it.

Ariel was spending all his time in the shop, but it was all right with him. He felt surprisingly peaceful here. However speaking with Petit had reminded him that he needed the place warded, well and truly. He'd already laid the foundations and tried to clear the shop's air, but he could only do so much. He was re-learning, recovering rituals his hands had lost, but it took time. Hopefully Dean could assist him further, and perhaps he'd call Bobby as well.

Dean wandered into the shop, Princess following close behind him. He sniffed the air and wrinkled his nose. It smelled like dust and mildew, like every good bookshop did, but that tended to make his head hurt. Princess, on the other hand, found it refreshing.

He heard the door and went out to greet the man. "Dean. Hello. Did - " He hoped it was enough of a 'hello' to sound normal. He'd seen the other person behind Dean, and he had to smile. "Hello, Princess. A pleasure to see you again."

Dean smirked at his reaction to Princess, and didn't bother answering the man since he hadn't been asked a complete question anyway.

Princess beamed and moved to curtsey, smiling at Ariel. "You as well, Ariel."

"I didn't expect you to come along." She'd said she liked bookshops, of course, but still. It was best for him to hold his expectations low. For now, he inclined his head in a sort of bow, given a proper one would get him laughed at.

He turned back to Dean, trying to pretend he'd never attempted to ask the question. "Did you find the materials you needed for the wards we discussed? I have some things here, but not perhaps everything you would require."

"Of course I wanted to. I love bookstores. And I can help you with your work." She smiled and moved to trail her fingers along a bookcase.

Dean nodded. "Yep, got my bag."

Business first, then pleasure. "All right, good. Perhaps you should have a look around and see where you think it would be best to place them? I've laid foundations at a few places, but I'd appreciate a contemporary opinion." Ariel pointed to one, then another, slipping his glasses on. "Not every window needs a ward; a salt line might do fine for the smaller ones." He watched Princess go looking through the bookshelf behind her, figuring she wouldn't disarrange anything. The idea rather pleased him, that she looked already interested.

He was about to say more to Dean when he felt tiny feet crawling up his trouser leg. "Dee."

Dean nodded, pulling out a bag of salt from his pack. He chuckled when a jeweled puzzle box started to crawl up Ariel's leg. "Her boxness likes you too."

Princess looked over her shoulder and grinned. "Yes, she does."

It wasn't his Shadow? Ariel looked down, interested. He picked up the box, holding it with one hand grasping the underside. "You, madam, I have heard much about." He wanted to make the girl Princess laugh. "It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance." He presumed the box could at least convey yes or no. "Is your name Princess as well?"

As he talked to the box, though, he did finally hear a chirp, and when he looked hard enough, he could spy Dee sitting on the shelf above Princess's searching. "If you can see Shadows, by the way, right above you is Dee." Ariel pointed with his free hand, amused.

Dean couldn't, but he chuckled as a hand shot out of the top of the box, waving delightedly. He chuckled shaking his head. "Yeah, she likes you too. What's a shadow?"

Princess moved over from the bookshelf, reaching out to collect Dee. "Him." She waved her fingers over the tiny creature's head, smiling.

Ariel nodded as Princess-the-girl held out her hand to Dee. "A Shadow is a little being that basically soaks up excess emotion or energy you produce. They're not visible to most," he explained to Dean. "A friend of mine is well conversant with them and their history, and suggested to me that I might have lost mine some time ago. To make a long story short, she was right, and that's the result. If you can't see him, he's a caterpillar-shaped sort of thing. He chirps, almost like a cricket."

Turning back to the box, Ariel ran a gentle finger over the wood, being careful to avoid the rubies - he remembered what Princess-the-girl had told him. "What beautiful workmanship," he murmured. "Truly, a special sort of lady." He told the box, wondering if the box could be amused.

The box rocked from side to side, in obvious amusement. Princess tucked Dee onto the top of her head, smirking.

Dean blinked, nodding. "One of Robbie's friends has one, and so does his mom." He chuckled, handing over a sheet of paper with a sketch for a few wards he planned on putting up.

"My friend who explained them to me is Petit Lebeau, who I know is acquainted with Robert Singer, but I've no idea if she knows your family. Pardon me, m'lady," he said to the box, setting her on the floor so he could look at the ward sketches with his full attention. "These appear to be fine. I'm glad to see I've only missed one, according to this. And if they're standard Key wards, I have everything that will be required." Handy and convenient, to be sure.

He was about to say more, but he could hear Dee's contented chirping, and it made Ariel laugh in earnest. "Princess, do stop charming him, I just found him again." He was teasing, and it felt odd. But good, somehow.

Princess shrugged her shoulders, looking over Ariel's shoulders. "My hair is soft. Also, that's wrong." She pointed at one of the sigils that Ariel had written out.

"Wrong?" Ariel's brow furrowed. She would have an idea, given her maker, but ... wrong? "How so?"

"That line is two inches to the right too far." She shrugged. "It won't work."

"Two entire inches?" How could he have been that lax? Trying not to look irritated, he excused himself and went to get his copy of the Key of Solomon. Paging through it, he found the ward in question. He could hear Dee chirp as he looked up, likely still sitting in Princess' hair.

Blast it. "Well, it's a good thing you noticed," he forced out, hoping she understood his annoyance was not at her, but himself. "I'll re-draw it."

She stroked his cheek, smiling. "You need to sleep more." She chuckled as Dee chirped in agreement. "It helps."

She was probably right, really. Some nights he still had dreams, but others he simply forgot. "I did wind up falling asleep over a copy of the Kabbalah a few days past," he told her, small smile appearing.
