Who: Crowley & Lo
Where: The Shakespeare pub, London
When: Right after this
What: Couple old pals catching up
Warnings: Probable.

Crowley had long since decided that he was going to keep the job as a traveling salesman, mostly because it was something he was not only familiar with, but was damned good at. He'd given away the trailer he'd landed in because it was simply hideous, and it was nowhere near the standard of living he was accustomed to.

Apparently whoever he'd replaced wasn't all that bad at the job, and had a hefty chunk of savings that he could work from, it wasn't what he was used to having, but he'd get back to it sooner or later. He was easy enough to spot, really, one of the pub's classier patrons, and definitely one who'd been there for a while, given the way people's gaze just sort of slid right past him.

Lo had replaced essentially what he'd been in Hell - just an average guy, with a modest savings, working an average job. Lo'd been born and raised in Hell, not one one of the ones who'd descended, and he'd always been pretty okay at his job, but didn't really feel like trying for anything more. Management seemed boring.

Which was why it was odd that he and Crowley were friends - always had been. Crowley was chock full of ambition, where Lo tended more toward sloth. Plunking himself on a stool next to the man that he knew immediately as Demon, Lo chuckled and lit a cigarette. "Wow."

"Imagine my surprise." He said, by way of greeting, "To find myself snapped up from the middle of the bloody Apocalypse only to land in a damned hideous Winnebago in Montana, watching the local fair pack up and move on. No Horsemen, no Angels going around smiting everything in sight and no hiding out necessary. Right back to where I was when I first got let out of the Pit, only... better, since I haven't got a watchdog, well, I do, but I've loaned him out for a bit."

A one-shouldered shrug then, lifting his nearly-empty glass for the server, who returned with another before arching an expectant brow at Lo.

Lo looked right back at him. "What. Oh, right, beverages, forgot about feeding the suit. Uh, whatever he's having." He shrugged a shoulder. "This is an improvement, let me tell you. It's so bright up here."

Apparently this was the kind of statement that was made around here all the time, since the server didn't even bat an eye before vanishing, only to return a few moments later with another tumbler.

Crowley chuckled, "Bright downstairs too, in places." He tilted his head, eying the other man for a moment, "How've you been? Honestly."

"Usually not the ones I worked in," Lo shrugged. He sighed, running fingers through his hair. He didn't want to discuss his time spent topside just before this time. Last time, he'd been in a woman's body, and fallen in love with a mortal. He'd even been stupid enough to leave the mortal the means to summon him, just to see him again. First he'd tried to get the human to see how horrible he was. Then he'd just had to tell him to leave.

Clearing his throat to get the memories to leave, he shook his head. "Terrible, as usual. You?"

He shrugged again, settling back in his chair once more, apparently perfectly comfortable there. That was the thing about Crowley, he always made himself at home, even if he proclaimed to detest the place, "Horsemen had been set loose, things were coming apart at the seams, so I did what I had to to keep on top of it. Rather like my head right where it is, after all."

Lo was glad Crowley wasn't mentioning specifics. "Well, most sensible things do. You might be a bastard, but you're a sensible one." His own voice was gravelly, low, and sounded like a guy humans didn't want to fuck with. Sure, he might not have been overly ambitious, but he was still a friggin' demon.

Crowley wasn't an idiot, he knew better than to mention all but gift-wrapping the Horsemen's stable boy for Hunters. He did, after all, like his head right where it was, and that meant keeping things to himself even from old acquaintances, "That's what'll be going on my gravestone: 'a right sensible bastard'"

"You could do worse, though I don't think we get gravestones. Maybe an urn. Though sorting your ashes out wouldn't happen, most likely. So really, best just to have a memorial plaque. Ooh, chips." He stole a bag from behind the bar, offering Crowley a bite once it was opened.

"Good point." He said, and then wrinkled his nose at the offer, shaking his head, "Don't see how you can eat those." And before an argument could be raised he added: "Can't stand the texture." by way of explanation.

"They're not quite fried skin, but they'll do. Oooh, they have those here." He was half leaned over the counter, and he swiped a bag of pork rinds, munching happily.

"Which is precisely the problem I have with them." He said, though his tone was almost amused, "Been there, done that, rather not have the reminder." It hadn't been a pleasant experience, it hadn't been supposed to, really, but most of Crowley's aversions came from his time in the pit, before he'd been assigned.

"I like fried skin," Lo pouted, smiling at Crowley. "So, where's your doggy?"

"Keeping an eye on a musician." He shrugged, "She can see him, keeps an eye on him for me and keeps us all out of trouble in the long run."

"And people say I'm soft. You're letting your hound go all squishy over a human. I hope they're interesting." He shook his head and downed whatever was in his glass. He didn't know, all alcohol tasted about the same to him.

"Oh hardly." He said, even just those two words a scoff, "You remember when Ashmedai got done in? Her father's the one what did it. Purely self-preservation on my part."

"Ugh, that guy. He was a bit of a mouthy bitch, really." Lo talked a big game, but it was mostly because the demon in question was dead, and wouldn't be able to retaliate. "But why in all the hells would a human want your smelly dog?"

"Don't look at me." He shrugged, "She says he's got cute ears. That and I think she uses him to terrorize the staff, which I fully approve of, especially if they're the sort that can actually see him."

Lo shook his head, grinning. Some humans were actually not all that bad. He sighed, trying not to think of Justin, the one who'd fallen for him, genuinely and utterly. "So, what's good to eat up here?"

"Not much around here." He said with a shrug, "Have to get out of the country for the really good stuff." That said he caught Lo's arm for a moment, just blinking them away to his usual table at his current favorite restaurant, not too far from the hotel he was currently living in in Italy, "This, is much better."

He could do that too, so it didn't irk him when Crowley helped him move that way. "Smells it. This where you're staying? I'm in the 'burbs, which are really ... beige."

"For now." He said with a nod, "Until I get tired of it, or until I pick up the fair circuit again, easier to travel to and from on my own, really. And I'll make better money at it that way, don't have to worry about a transportation budget." Not that he really worried much about any sort of budget.

"Don't know what I'll do," Lo sulked. He doubted humans had jobs that involved torturing others. Last he'd heard, that had died out a while ago.
