Who: Peter Brown and Cadence Meyers
What: A bit of shopping. Mafia style.
When/Where: Backdated a bit, Starting in the Hamptons, heading into the City
Warnings: NC-17 Later on

Pietro had to admit, even if he wasn't a big fan of mobsters, this mafia gig wasn't so bad. Fast cars, big guns, and hot girls; it was like a teenage boy's wet dream. Especially now that he could deal strictly in 'management', when he wanted, and leave all the blood and violence to people with less sanity- or at least better reflexes.

If he was honest with himself, he wasn't sure if Cadence was going to be one of those people. Even their short meeting showed him she wasn't the usual 'married to the mob' type; she was independent, thought for herself, confident. She was going to want a real hand in whatever she got involved in. It wasn't that he had something against a woman getting involved- Mattie was damn good at what she did. But Mattie... honestly didn't seem like she had any other options. Cadence- with the money and resources her new life gave her- certainly did. He wanted to make sure she knew what she was getting into, before he sent her out into the mob world.

He pulled into the private drive in front of her house, shooting her a text to let her know he was there. It was damn cold, and he really didn't feel like dealing with her house staff, if he didn't have to.

Cadence stood ready to go. When the text came in, she looped her scarf around her neck and headed out to meet Pietro. She would have liked to take a moment to admire his car, but the bitter cold nixed that idea. She'd just have to admire it from the inside, if she could get past admiring the driver.

She slid into the seat and rubbed her hands together. "Cold enough you could cut glass with your nipples." She shivered and stuck her hands under her arms to keep them warm.

"There's a visual," He muttered, mostly to himself. Pietro smirked over at her as she slid in the car, shamelessly stealing a glance. Something about her seemed familiar, or maybe 'comfortable' was a better word. She really wasn't anything like the women he'd known, before. Maybe that was part of the appeal.

Once she settled in the seat, he threw the car back into drive and headed back for the interstate. "It's about a twenty minute drive to the shop. Just south of Queens, in the city." He'd gotten used to answering those kinds of questions up front, to keep his passengers from thinking they were about to be driven 'to the docks' or some other hideous mob cliche.

"You're driving, I just have to trust you're not going to try to drown me in the river," she said with a little grin. He'd have a hell of a fight on his hands, if he tried. She may be in over her head, taking on Louise's business, but she thought she was pretty good at taking care of herself, and she could take him on, even if the sight of him made her feel aroused, and then in turn, guilty.

His face turned a little more sarcastic at that. "I have people for that kind of thing now, didn't you know?" Pietro was still having far too much fun being on the other side of the mafia coin. As shitty as it probably was, he finally understood why Skinflick would want to join up. He could get behind the cars and prestige (and women) that being the Consigliere entailed.

"Of course." Cadence nodded. "Well, then. I guess that means I'm safe, as long as you don't pawn me off on someone else. Wouldn't want to get your own hands dirty, after all." She smiled a devious sort of smile. She was liking this guy, more and more, and not only because he reminded her of Nick.

"Hey, don't get me wrong. If there's one thing I don't mind, it's getting dirty. It's the Bosses, that frown on that kind of thing. Why have underlings if we don't use 'em, right?" The last was said in his best wiseguy impression, giving her a matching sort of smirk. He had to say, Cadence beat the hell out of 'Louise'.

"And don't worry- I won't be pawning you off on anyone. If anything, you might end up working with the other guys, but they're in the same boat. They know about this place. And... honestly, I think you could handle them," Really, it was more that he knew they wouldn't touch her if he told them not to. But it was the same sentiment.

She shook her head, paired with an amused laugh. Really, what wasn't to like, about this guy? He was good looking, he was funny, he was honest, in a way that most men weren't.

"Seems like I'm holding my own with you, anyway," she replied with a self assured smirk.

He gave her another glance over, looking back just in time to watch them blaze through a red-light right at the edge of the city. Oh well.

"Seems that way. Just don't push your luck, got it?" He wagged his brows once, to show the joke behind the threat. He could see her pushing his buttons, and... couldn't really say he minded it.

Despite the cramped space in the car, Cadence managed to uncross and recross her legs. She shifted, leaning toward him just slightly. She wouldn't interfere with his driving, especially in wintry conditions.

"Don't mind me, I'm just looking for the button. I want to push it and see what happens," she said, with a little grin. She felt relaxed with him, even though she didn't really know him, and despite the fact she was fairly certain he could snap her neck, chop her up in pieces and bury her in the woods without a shred of remorse.

The way she shifted just so gave him a wonderful view down the neckline of her blouse, which he didn't fail to notice on his next glance over. He managed to keep his face neutral, even if his Adam's apple bobbed with a tell-tale swallow. Point, Cadence.

"Well, I think you're getting close. But to warn you, right now, it might cause a car crash. Be a shame to destroy two beautiful women in one move," In truth, Pietro didn't hurt women. He refused, unless they were an immediate threat to him. And somehow, he didn't see that being the issue with Cadence. At least not in a way he wouldn't thoroughly enjoy.

He managed to keep his eyes on the road until they made it to the parking lot, carefully swinging the car into a space behind a pawn broker. "Forgive the cliche. I just use the contacts, I don't make 'em."

"I'll just have to keep looking. For the button," she added as she slid out of the car. Graceful despite the weather, she stretched and smoothed a hand over the front of her coat. To be fair, it was Louise's coat, but it fit her nicely.

She rolled her eyes at the comment about the contacts. "As long as you're not walking me into some kind of ambush, we'll be fine." She didn't care who or where the contact was, she just wanted the goods so they could move to the next phase of her training.

He looked her over again when she was standing- hey, she was actually almost as tall as he was. His eyes wandered down to her feet- not heels. Huh.

Shaking the thought off, he gave her an arch look at the idea of an ambush. "I don't get ambushed." Save that one time in the hospital, before he fell down the rabbit hole. But, who wanted to think about that? "Don't worry about it. I've met this guy before- just at meetings, not..." He waved a hand at the building, before leading the way inside.

"Demaria- where the hell are you?"

The pawn broker wandered out from the cage in the back of the shop, looking between Pietro and Cadence skeptically.

"Relax, would you? She's with me. Your new client." The guy was obviously skeptical, but seemed to think better than disagree with Pietro.

"So, are we going to stand her and stare, or are you going to take us back?"

Cadence shifted her weight, as she looked the man over. She nodded appreciatively. She was definitely in trouble if the two turned against her and she was just paranoid enough to keep a thought that that could very well happen. It didn't seem likely, but one could never be too sure, especially in unfamiliar situations.

"Unless you'd rather we take my business somewhere else?" She suggested, giving Demaria a hard look down the slope of her nose. She was a hard ass, and she wasn't afraid to play hard ball to get results.

Pietro smirked a little to himself, at her response. Maybe she had a shot at this, after all. Obviously the broker was thinking along the same lines, bulking slightly and waving them around behind the counter. Pietro hung around one of the doorways, answering the guy's question with a bored sort of air, trying to seem idle about looking back towards the entrance. He wasn't really worried about it. The Family had cops in the area. It was either that, or watching Cadence, though. And for some reason, she seemed on edge. He didn't need to add to that.

She made her selection, after a conversation with the broker to determine just what she was looking for. Satisfied, she nodded at Pietro. It wasn't that she was on edge, she was apprehensive about the whole thing. This was a big step for her, she wasn't going in to it lightly.

"There's that, then. Put it on my account, and get a register for Louise,"

"She ain't Louise,"

"She is now," The look on Pietro's face dared the guy to argue with him, and after a long second he seemed to reach the conclusion Pietro was going for. Swallowing, he nodded once, setting the gun down (away from Pietro!) on the counter, and moving to draw up the paperwork.

"C'mon. He'll handle it for us,"

"My hero," Cadence said with something of a sarcastic lilt. She tilted her head and smiled, when Pietro looked at her. She cold play smug and innocent at the same time.

His eyes narrowed a little at her tone, but it was more amused than anything else. The woman had balls, he had to give her that.

Pietro gathered up the gun, not bothering to glare when Demaria turned around to make a comment. "I'll keep this until she gets the paper work through. You screw me, you're screwed, got it?" The man nodded dumbly, as Pietro pocketed the gun and headed for the door.

He waited until they were in the car to pass it back to her. "We'll get you the CCW once he finished with the paperwork. One day, two tops."

"And until then?" Cadence arched a brow at Pietro. She snapped her seatbelt on, and crossed her legs at the ankle in front of her. "Am I using your piece, of using that one illegally?"

"Either way it'd be illegal. But if you stick to the range I'm going to show you- or in the city in general- it's not going to be a problem," The 'Family' had a few judges in their pocket, and didn't really do enough in the city itself to draw the attention of the various capes around. So long as she wasn't knocking over 7-11s, she would be fine.

"So- where to next? You really want to try things out tonight?"

"I don't mind, either way." Cadence shrugged. "But what would we do, if we don't shoot things?" She shifted, turning just slightly sideways in her seat to face him. She drew a hand up to push her hair out of her face, but it was really just a distraction, so she wouldn't stare at him.

He arched a brow, her shift once again distracting him to make him turn the engine over just a second too long. "Well, uh. I don't know. We still have to find you somewhere to stay. If you want. And it's a big city. I'm sure there's something,"

If only that sounded less like an awkward teenager. Pietro cursed at himself, internally.

"At the very least, there are plenty of hotels just off the interstate." Cadence let her hand fall to her neckline. She was playing at a subtle seduction, but only casually. She didn't want to distract him too much while he was driving.

Pietro's eyes dutifully followed her hand, before he forced himself to look away. God, it had really been that long, hadn't it? "Hey, what kinda guy would I be, shoving you off into some kind of Motel 6? I think we can do better than that," Even if the neighborhood they were on their way into wasn't exactly uptown. The yuppies didn't really appreciate the idea of having a firing range next to their kids' yoga school. So they had to make due with the one out in Hell's Kitchen.

"We?" Cadence questioned, mostly to get a rise out of him. She didn't expect him to stay with her, wherever he put her up, though the thoughts that ran through her mind were pleasant ones if he did opt to stay. They could keep each other warm, deep into the night. She let her tongue glide across her bottom lip, subtle and suggestive, but casual enough it may have just been that her lips were dry.
