Who: The Phantom and Alice
What: Meeting.
Where: Venice
When: Now-ish?
Warnings: As far as I know, unlikely.

If there was one thing that the Phantom was already beginning to hate about this, it was the light. This world was too bright to someone so used to hiding in shadows... he supposed he'd just have to adjust to it.

Feeling out a bridge, he sat down on one of the sides, quickly adjusting his mask. If this made him more obvious, so be it... he wasn't about to let the world see his face.

Well, not unless something inspirational dropped by.

Somehow, she caught the Phantom's eye - maybe it was the embroidered serpent, or just something of an 'air' about her, but she certainly had his attention now.

"You don't seem the sort to walk so close to darkness, Mademoiselle," his voice was soft, without the faintest hint of an accent, and he knew she'd be able to hear him. One didn't lurk about in an opera house for years without learning some tricks like that.

She looked up where he was hiding, being about to sense his soul, even in the mass of people in the city. It was fairly easy, his soul itself was twisted, able to be evil but didn't necessarily see himself as 'evil'-lost may be a better word.

"I grew up with darkness, sir. I'm no stranger to it." She said it in a way that someone might say 'they grew up next to a beach' or 'some strange but harmless neighbor'-she saw nothing strange to her. Actually what she found strange was how the humans here took their safety for granted, while people like her mother put their health on the line for it.

The very matter-of-fact way she said that made him arch an eyebrow, sliding down from his hiding place to land nearby to her - for a man who'd spent the best part of his life underground, he made that look almost graceful.

"Not many people can speak of darkness like that. You might just be quite unique amongst the rest of humanity." If he thought about it, which he was often given to do, this 'unique' quality might serve as a kind of inspiration...

She watched him land before her, after having studied and watched all sorts of martial artists and acrobats, it was difficult to be impressed.

Except that he did this is a sort of dress suit-that was impressive.

"I'd like to think so." Now there were the other students at Trautan academy, but among the over all population, she did consider herself unique: not that she was bragging, after all her parents were no 'mere' mortals' and her own childhood was spent in studying and training.

	"Such uniqueness is... rare," he had to choose his words carefully, just to avoid any negative repercussions. "It's almost inspirational to those like myself - it's almost as if it's the fuel of the opera." Unique and interesting stories made good operas. There was no denying anything like that. 	As her father would say 'this is interesting'. "I've heard of Opera, but I've only seen a few performances of the chinese opera, not European." With her realm as unstable as it was, such entertainments were almost a lost art. She was a little wary of him talking of 'inspiration', but that could've been the paranoia in her. At least she'd seen some opera. That put her above most of the common rabble, in his opinion.

"Opera is an art, no matter what style it's performed in," he paused to adjust his mask, ensuring he was properly covered - try as he might, he still felt so... exposed. "Venice is almost the capital of the European style, alongside Paris... one of the finest opera houses in the world can be found here."

It was clear that he was 'insecure' about something, but to a teen who had seen tarkaten warriors and other Outworld mutants, she couldn't see why.

"My father's from China and has a slight fondness for the ancient art forms." Ancient, because the whole communist take over frowned on such things. "but were I'm from, we've only recently been able to rediscover such entertainments. Prior to that, things have been to unsteady."

And most of the 'entertainment' before hand, had consisted of deathmatch tournaments and shows of skill. Bloody yes, but able of being very flashy and theatrical, which was why they were popular.

There was a place in the world where they'd forgotten the gentle art of the opera? To be entirely honest, that shocked him. The very thought of a world without music was almost horrible.

"All the more reason to explore the entertainments this world can offer. Whilst ancient China certainly had its charms, Europe has its own - operas about scandals, death, romantic affairs... almost anything can be made into one."

"You create operas, don't you." She said bluntly, with all of his talk of opera and inspiration.

Alice couldn't help but grin a little at the 'topics'. "Sounds like the court back home, except for the romantic affairs." Now, her mother and father may not actually love each other, but momma wasn't foolish enough to have an affair-actually she never had the time for one-and she wouldn't exactly say that the flings her father had were 'romantic'. "Well, maybe not entirely."

	He chuckled, blushing ever-so-slightly. "Am I so obvious? I suppose that happens when one lives beneath the opera for so long..." That aside, though, he couldn't help but be glad there was some form of inspiration here. "I'm just good at reading people." She admitted, well, reading their souls anyway, but sometimes it could be one in the same.

"Court politics are known to be rather bloodly back home." oh, wasn't that an understatement. Considering that part of the court involved the Shokanites and their contradictory demands of honor and trechory.

Alice considered a moment. "Is this conversation going anywhere, or do you usually pick up conversations with young women in alleyways." Not that she had anywhere to be in a hurry, she was just curious.
